Guest guest
Jane Fonda's Vedic Chart - A Snapshot Analysis in Six Easy Pieces 9:49 AM 4/8/05 Fri Evryone is very familiar with Jane Fonda - actress, sex symbol, feminist/political activist. The daughter of acting legend Henry Fonda, she has been at the forefront of the media and the world for some four decades. In more recent years, she has been known for her excercise videos, and being the (now ex) wife of media mogul Ted Turner. She has recently published a memoir of her life in the spotlight, as well as her struggles dealing with being " Hanoi Jane " , her failed three marriages, and her bought with bulimia. TIME Magazine recently did a huge writeup on her. Check it out. To be honest, Jane Fonda isn't my cup of tea, never has been, although I recognize that she was and still is a very attractive woman. After reading all of TIME's coverage of the recently deceased Pope of Rome, I decided to read the Fonda piece. It lead me to check out her Vedic chart, which is an object lesson in what a chart with profound relationship difficulties looks like. Jane Fonda Dec 21 1937 9.14am EST Manhattan, NY Lahiri Lagna 5 Cap 31 This chart is easily broken down in six easy pieces (my ode to the great Walter Mosley): 1. Note that Fonda has Kuja Dosha - The Blemish of Mars that destroys relationship and marital bliss - from ALL THREE Lagnas: from the birth Asc itself, from the Moon (Chandra Lagna) and from Venus (Shukla Lagna). This alone should raise a serious eyebrow for anyone looking at this woman's chart. 2. Moon Gandanta in the 7th House - while the Moon is in the Sign of Cancer, still it is greatly weakened by being so close to the end of a Water Sign AND a Naksatra; this greatly explains the " weakness " of her marital bonds with her 3 hubbies, as well as her own weak sense of self worth and value, and her own mother's mental instability, since the Moon is the universal ruler of the mother. This is a highly mixed result Moon, giving both good and bad results. For example, the Moon aspecting the Asc greatly enhances Fonda's beauty (as the Moon represents both the face and the breasts in Vedic astrology) but it also brings to the fore the earlier mentioned things and events as well. As the Moon is one of the planets that represents food and nutrition, its weakened and troubled state speaks volumes about her bulimia. Note also that the Moon is in Ashlesha naksatra, which focuses on addictions, poisons, and sexual matters. 3. Venus associates with Rahu in Scorpio in the 11th House - this placement should say it all, in that Venus is the Yoga-karaka for a Cap Asc. Placed in the sexy Sign of Scorpio, and aligned with the ultra-sexy Rahu, it is these two planets that really brought Fonda's fame as a sexpot in the movie " Barbarella " . However, Rahu is debilitated, and since Rahu represents the mass media and the general public's perception of reality, it is this combination that also brought Fonda her infamy in the " Hanoi Jane " incident in Vietnam. Also, going back to the bulimia issue, note how both these planets are in the 11th House of desires (Kama), and as Venus is yet another of the universal planets of food and its intake (as well as beauty and one's perception of oneself in that regard), we can see that its alignment with Rahu the Insatiable clearly represents the bulimia theme. 4. Jupiter in Cap - this is Jupiter's worst Sign placement, very important for a woman, since Jupiter will represent the kinds of men she will choose as a mate. In Cap, Jupiter here suggests that Fonda's judgement of men will not be good; she may be taken in by their overt shows/displays of " stuff " success and so on, but they may not be good in terms of character or spirit. Indeed, her three marriages, particularly with regard to Roger Vadim and Tom Hayden, was rife with infidelity and the like on their parts. As we see here, and it cannot be said enough, Jupiter is a very, very important planet in a woman's chart. 5. Gaja-Kesari Yoga - Jupiter rising in the Cap Asc, while the Moon sits in the 7th in Cancer, gives rise to this famous combination, which gives in the main, " name, fame and wealth " . It is considered a Raj-Yoga and a Dhana-Yoga, with strong political implications; in fact, many prominent political leaders have this placement (George W Bush, Bill Clinton, just to name a few), and it is this yoga that explains Fonda's fierce feminist and political activism. However, the weakness of both the Moon and Jupiter also speaks volumes her unpopularity with the stances she took during her " activist " years. This combination also speaks to her attracting famous or otherwise well-known men, but again the inherent weaknesses here also shines a light on their failings as men, particularly with regard to her. 6. Lagnesh Saturn in the 3rd House - this should be obvious to more experienced Vedic astrologers, as the 3rd House is the house of artistic pursuits; many well known actors, singers, directors and the like have prominent placements in the 3rd House. Since Saturn, the ruler of Fonda's Asc is placed here, we can easily see her early interest in the arts. However, Saturn is also placed in the Sign of Pisces, which is most associated with addictive tendencies, " a loss of Self " , and confusion, unless there are strong indications elsewhere in the chart that lead one to spiritual development and focus. In turning to her Dasas, we see the following (keeping in mind that I reckon Vimshottari Dasa from the Asc position NOT the Moon): Mom commits suicide, tailend of the Moon, beginning of Mars Dasa; again, note the Moon's weakness, Moon representing mother, and being in the 4th from the 4th House *which represents the emotional and mental state); Mars in the 2nd suggests familial strife, rules the 4th Gets fame with " Barbarella " , marries and divorces Vadim, gets into trouble with the " Hanoi Jane " incident; note that Rahu Dasa was running, aspecting the Moon and the 7th House, being debilitated and associated with Venus the sexpot Marries and divorces Hayden, becomes a fierce activist; Jupiter Dasa. Again, keep in mind that Jupiter forms one half of the GKY and aspects the 7th; Jupiter also represents the hubbie in a woman's Vedic chart Marries and divorces Ted Turner, Saturn Dasa. Fonda says in her book the main reason why the marriage fell apart was because she could not be herself; she was basically a shadow for Turner, doing all of the things he liked and none of the things she liked. Saturn here is Lagnesh, the ruler of the Asc - the core of the Self, the identity, who one is - and so it would make perfect sense that Fonda would want to assert herself during this time. Saturn would activate both Jupiter in Cap/Lagna and Mars in the 2nd, suggesting major disagreements and even arguments between her and Turner about these things. We saw the end results. Right now Fonda is in her Saturn Dasa, to last until 2009; in that Saturn is in the 3rd House and aspects Mercury, which happens to rule the 5th, we can see the book coming out at this time. She should make quite a comeback, since she is running the Dasa of her Lagnesh...though we also have to keep in mind, that Sade Sati, the 7.5 year transit of the Moon and the Signs that flank it, is on-tap for the foreseeable future as well.
