Fannie Mae's Housing Woes

It was announced on the news over the past few days

that the head executives of Fannie Mae have stepped

down amid yet another major accounting scandal in the

business world. Industry pundits expect Fannie Mae to

restate their earnings over the past few years, wiping

out their profit margin.

 

Fannie Mae is one of the largest - and oldest - home

mortage companies in the nation, responsible for

making home ownership possible for literally millions

of Americans - particularly Americans less likely to

achieve the " American Dream " - African and Hispanic

Americans, as well as lower-income citizens generally.

 

 

As we all know, the nexus between Big Business and

Politics has always been a close one, and this case is

no exception. The now-ousted head of Fannie Mae has

had extensive ties to the powers that be on the Hill,

especially on the Democratic Party side. Those ties

now have at best limited " pull " in light of the total

takeover by the Republicans in the last few elections,

including the one in Nov. In fact, it is expected that

at least one of the two replacement executives will be

Republican or at least be friendly with them,

something that is going to be necessary for Fannie Mae

to get anything done.

 

With the country still very bitterly divided along

political lines, with Bush's peculiar take on " race

relations " , with the GOP's extensive track record with

respect to African Americans and its recent overt

overtures to the nation's " newest and largest "

Minority - Hispanics, it will prove very interesting

to see how all of this pans out.

 

Astrologically, all of this goes down with transit

Saturn in Cancer, traditionally considered not to be

one of the better placements for the Ringed Planet.

Saturn classically represents times of want, and

clearly, since Bush's time in Office, Poverty indices

have indeed risen accross the board and in particular

among African Americans (unemployment, consumer debt,

home mortage defaults, etc). Bush has, in his Western

chart, Saturn in Cancer at 26 degrees in the 12th

House and Peregrine (not making any Ptolemaic aspect

to any other planet in the natus; Tyl designation) BUT

square the MC (George W Bush Jul 6 1946 7.26AM EDT New

Haven CT; 7 Leo 7, Rodden). This suggests losses

insofar as the Masses are concerned along home

ownership lines, and as this transit marks Bush's

second Saturn Return, it highlights these themes all

the moreso.

 

At present, Saturn's Tropical position is 25 Cancer,

one degree away from Bush's natal position - and, if

you look at the Sibly variant of the USA chart (Jul 4,

1776 5.10PM LMT, Philadelphia, PA; 12 Sag 19, Campion)

you'll note that this same transit position of Saturn

sits opposite Pluto in the 2nd House, from the 8th.

Saturn-Pluto ANYTHING is rarely positive, productive,

happy; " urban renewal " is the image I think of when I

think of Saturn-Pluto pairings. At the very least,

such a combo suggests hard, hard work, coming out from

under a huge mess; at worst, outright, complete, total

destruction. While many astrologers are sold on the

notion that the USA has its Sun, Venus and Jupiter in

the 2nd house (same date, with the Gemini Asc) I have

always been of the view that Pluto in the 2nd seemed

to fit better, along with the obsessive American

" thing " for collecting stuff, living large and making

bank. Also, with the Sibly variant of the USA, the

Moon is ruler of the 8th - national debt - and is also

Void of Course, suggesting a " runaway train " kind of

effect insofar as the Moon's symbolism and house

rulership is concerned.

 

We astrologers know that Outer Planets tend to hit a

spot in its orbital path 3 times (the old " law of

three " ) due to retrograde patterns and this case is no

exception. Transit Saturn hits the 25th degree of

Cancer in Sep-Oct 2004, Jan and June 2005. I fully

expect there to be more rumblings along the lines of

the Housing Industry by or before Saturn hits that

degree area and moves out of Cancer late next Summer.

 

Interestingly, the road ahead for both the President

and for the country looks a bit rough in this regard:

 

GWB: SA MC=Saturn/Pluto exact Aug 2005

USA Sibly: SA MC=Saturn/Neptune exact Sep 2005; SA

Moon=Saturn exact Oct 2005
