Guest guest
Dear Friends: Here's a correspondence between myself and one of our Star Reports rs regarding how to understand both Western & Eastern Astrologys... And since this is right up our alley, at Nature's Astrology, I thought you might like to read this. Sincerely, Mark Kincaid Dear Bipin: I'm happy to hear you, enjoying ..... When I started studying the transits, Astrology, truely, came alive to me.... Astrologers today, limiting there scope to computers, seem out of touch with the stars and planets. I am a beginner and am spending some time on Astronomy as well, because I believe that one should be an astronomer first and then an astrologer - I agree. When you study the Astronomy.... you become familiar with the structure of 'what is'... and then, when you look inside, and try and 'feel' how the symbolisms of Astrology might fit with you, then, you have some basis to understand.... I hope this will help my future understanding and developement. Q1 I have a beginner's question?..... I have been looking at charts of people I know and seem to find that their Western Tropical Sun sign suits them very well. How does one reconcile this with Jyotish. Because the 2 systems are still so close they tend to still overlap.... and even if one's Sun sign changes quite often Venus & Mercury, which are the closest to the Sun.... do tend to be in that Sign that your Sun was in in your Western chart.... People who've learned to 'feel' both their Western & Eastern charts, do tend to report, however, that .... certain aspects of their Eastern chart, really do fit them better, more precisely.... In my Jyotish/Astrology,....I believe there are aspects to both systems that are really, 'real', and a part of the real 'Astrology' that's out there, in Nature.... In my 'Nature's Astrology',....I'm attempting at showing how both Western and Eastern can be combined, and in fact, how they both, 'together', go farther at explaining the 'true' Astrology of Nature, then either one alone... Check out my new I call 'Nature's Astrology' which is very much about looking at both these great systems of Astrology.... Let's see, it's address is: / Does the Siderial Sun Sign have any particular attributes and Jyotish some other attributes??. Yes.... I'm in the middle of writing an article called " Best of Western & Eastern Astrologys " which will come out on the above soon, but in essence there are some qualities of Western which I do think are better. For example Western believes in the greater importance of the Sun, while Eastern believes more in the Moon. Well, I believe, and have found in practical experience, especially when you watch the Stars, through the transits... you can't help but notice how powerful and important the Moon is! However, though the Sun is very subtle, and even, almost, unmanifest, representing as it does, our inner most 'I's... ego sense and self esteem, still it's very obvious that everything revolves around the Sun.... Western also believes more in the Signs whereas Jyotish says the Houses are more important. Again, neither approach is quite right. When you watch the planets going through the various Signs, which then mean they're going through various Houses, in our charts, and/or Physiologys, then,... you can experience these truths... Also, Western believes in growth, in change, in transformation, and in freedom! Eastern does not. It talks about Jyotish remedies but more as an afterthought. It believes, instead in fate, in destiny and determinism.... In Reality, again, I believe both aspects are true! As it turns out Saturn is the Planet of Karma, and previous consequences coming back to us, or fate.... But, it's Jupiter that believes in freedom! Together they both together represent both extremes in life.... Im often tested by western astrologers and cant figure this out. I tell them to look at both and see which one fits better - there is often a bit of both sign attributes that fit the native. Part of the problem is that we all, West & East, alike, get attached to our own points of view, and that again,....is why I like looking at the transits, so much. The Transits have taught be to discover the truths of Jyotish rather then take what I've studied and come to believe, and then project those ideas into life.... You can even discover the various rules and principles of Jyotish/Astrology...in the Transits... and that's really amazing.... Q2 As regards Eclipses - is it inauspiscious to view eclipses according to Jyotish. No, Eclipses which are representative of Rahu & Ketu...which are thought to be enemies of the Sun and Moon,.... generally....are inauspicious... However, there is another point of view, and that is...that in Reality, no planets or planetary situations are 'bad'.... In fact, seen from this point of view, all malefic situations have a blessing in disguise quality which is very important... Take a Mars accident for example. It's definitely inauspicious to have an accident, but in Truth, Nature is just showing us the quality of our Mars Actions...and accidents are just Nature's way of showing us... 'We're going too fast!!!' Like that each so-called malefic or inauspicious Astrological configuration or consideration...is in truth, a message to behold! Check out the Articles I've written on Rahu & Ketu, in the 'files' section of the , for more info on Eclipses.... All the Best Bipin take care, yourself! Guest guest
Mark, very interesting. I want one or the other to be it, I really do, but I can see both in people, even when influences can't be ascribed to overlap or close planets. My husband, for example, has sun in Cancer in Jyotish and no Leo, but in western astrology he has 6 planets in Leo and he looks like a lion, he really does! I met someone once who was a schools inspector. She could tell people's sun signs from years of studying yearly intake for schools and getting to know which appearance went with which signs - she didn't know much about astrology beyond that. She went round a whole gathering I was at and picked out everyone's sun signs. I think Jyotish is very accurate for events, complex relationships, divisional charts etc, but the jury's out regarding personality and appearance. In fact some of the sign appearance definitions I've seen for Vedic astrology are far less apt than the western ones. Maybe at the end of the day we're looking at symbolism here. If you assign symbolism it will eventually become alive in its own right.
