Dear Therese,

How wonderful that you've been at this for so many years - I look forward to learning from your ideas on this list and on your site! Its a shame that you had to face scornful comments. I am a big believer in keeping an open mind. Its one of the reason's I like Mark's ideas for this list so much...an evolutionary approach to astrology and combining the best of the east and west. I always think of Jyotish's definition as 'the science of light'....and the fact that light is always moving, is fluid and illuminating new areas, new potential....not static, stagnant, closed off in dark rigidity.

I think one of my absolutely best, Astrological experiences is when I started watching the Transits.

There's a purity in watching Nature itself, ....

and not through any filter, whether western or eastern....

don't get me wrong, I have only the highest regard for both these systems and all the people who have kept this wisdom alive for us and the world...

However, too often, the flavor or color of 'any' system.... masks and interferes with our truest perceptions of 'Nature's astrology...'

.......

I had gotten through all my Jyotish books, and my brain was stuffed,....with all that info...

I knew the ideas, the principles and rules...but....

I wanted to 'feel' it....

So, I just innocently started watching the transits...

And baam!..... Astrology became alive, to me....

In watching nature, I love looking at the evening sky, full of Astrology...

the Moon is here, the Moon is there,...it's with or between us,....and certain constellations...

you can see them behind the Moon...

Two of my favorites are Sagittarius and Leo, cuz there shapes are so easy to see...

And later it occured to me, the Sagittarian constellation is not a teapot!, but a temple!

hjehhee

Also, one of the most striking qualties that you can sense when you watch Astrology, through Nature....is that...

underlieing and penetrating every bit of each Astrological configuration...is the overwhelming..

quality of Silence...

There was and even today, not even one moment....when Nature stops being 'full'.... unbounded, and steeped...in silence....

You can really 'feel' it when you pay attention...

So, it occured to me, that the true science of Astrology, should include a deep appreciation of the existence and status of silence, that exists in Nature...

Now, I experience the flavors, of each day's transits....

but on top of this wonderful silence...

Take today for example.... Sun and Rahu are colliding like crazy....

Yesterday, I was noticing such a feeling of craziness in the environment...

People were beserk, and desperately angry,

today, weeping....

Last nite I said to a friend, 'oh my, I bet you the Sun's getting close to Rahu?'

And when I got home and through a chart for yesterday,....'baam!...there it was Sun getting awfully close to Rahu....

To be honest, I had forgotten, about this quality of the Transits...

I remember mentioning it, abstractly, conceptually, several weeks ago, but forgot it was getting sooo close...

But, baam, yesterday's real life, experiences.... reminds us.... of what is important, and how we should be understanding this beautifiul wisdom of Nature's Astrological functionings....

I know one Jyotishi who calls himself a " Ketu " style astrologer, i.e., always learning, going deeper, going with the flow, willing to change. Love that. And Mark's mention in his transit report today of Moon in Pisces had me thinking about Pisces as the final house of the zodiac and its being about fluidity, expansiveness and imagination - the all encompassing ocean at the end of the journey. Again, not rigid, not static. Hmm...laughing at myself...obviously I'm in a philosophic Piscean mood today! :-)

I only have Robert Hand's book on Planets in Transit (and confess to only having skimmed it) as I don't really do western astrology, but your positive mention of his book on symbols in the article on the Sun and Moon has inspired me to go looking for it on the web this afternoon.

Annie

Very happy that you're in our group and enjoying and appreciating...

Jyotish/Astrology is an adventure.... not a belief system...only....

take care

Mark K.

Dear Therese,

Great web site!! And I love the info on the trigons...I think that is such

an important thing to consider in a chart and often not given enough weight

(well, at least in my personal experience with Jyotish). I look forward to

reading more of your articles.

Thank you so much, Annie! Please feel free to print out the articles that

interst you. I'm sorry that my program has put some kind of location

information at the top of the pages when they're printed. I don't know how

to get rid of that locale line.

Please feel free to give your opinion, whether you agree or disagree with

concepts in the articles. I'm finding that the new names in astrology (as

are on this discussion list) are people who are much more open to

innovative ideas about the sidereal/Jyotish signs (meaning the sign

descriptions aren't in the standard books). But I've studied people and

thought about the Jyotish signs since...well sometime late in the 70s. I

was a Tropical astrologer for 10 years before that.

On one western sidereal site where I posted the Lost Zodiac link, a few

oldtimers have been very scornful. If not, they don't bother to check out

any of the articles (too busy, maybe...)

So thanks again!

Therese
