Guest guest
Dear Fiends: I think what we need to do, and what I'd like to propose is we try and integrate these two great approaches of Astrology. I'd like to start a discussion, that looks at both great systems... and look at understanding both, and especially coming to some kind of synthesis about both. Personally, having studied both, I somehow understand...that Nature is Astrological... and in fact when you watch the transiting Stars and Planets you can't help but realize that Astrology is!, alive and well...out there! but,....some serious differences,....do exist in both systems...and I'd like to explore with you all, especially since we have some people who really seem to know their Western, especially, I'd like to attempt to understand how both can exist, and perhaps, be united into One.... I'd like to suggest, however, that we momentarily give up our particular allegiances or preferances for either system and try and be objective, and discuss, perhaps, firstly.... those qualities and atributes that exist within both. For example, I find it amazing that both systems believe in the same basic Planetary & Chart, structure that defines the person as the reflection of the Sun, Moon, and Planets... This is an amazing first thing, that both systems are in agreement regarding this basic Symbolism between Human Nature and the Astrological Chart. For example, the Sun represents the Self, 'I', ego, and individuality in pretty much both systems. The Moon, equally represents the emotional nature, feelings, mind, and intuition of the person. Venus represents the loving, expressive, heart nature of a person. Mercury represents the Intellect, Intellectual abilities, Intelligence and such things as Communications... Jupiter represents Spirituality, progress and prosperity, expansion and such things as teaching, teachers and even the process of learning. Mars represents dynamism, activity, energy, blood, 'fire of digestion' we say, is rooted in Mars, crusading, championing, courage, then lower qualities of fighting, disagreement, cheating, lieing, etc.... Saturn represents Balance, silence, stillness, centeredness, and lower qualities, of lack of balance, lack of silence, chaos, dis-function, dis-ease, disease and death... also delays, timings, frustrations, and losses, and griefs....on the lower end... Rahu and Ketu, the nodes of the Moon, represent the very important desire nature of the person. As such when Rahu/Ketu are in balance, then one's desires come up, find their way into our lives, and find fulfillment. Where Rahu/Ketu, however, are out of balance, then the mechanism of desiring is messed up, leading to uncontrolable desires, and then, compulsions, unwanted mental and physical patterns, and chronic bad habits, and addictions... One time I heard a fascinating description as to the source of all conflicts, sufferings and ignorances in life. " Where we have our 'pragya parads', (or mistaken notions or habits), we spontaneously do that which is not right for us. " Now, that's a good description of Rahu/Ketu, out of balance! I'm going to resist the tendency to describe the more outer planets and allow some of our more knolwedgable members who are more experienced in the Western...to give brief expression as to these Astrological meanings... Then, you've got the structures of the Houses and Signs... Again, both systems....agree in the basic structure of Chart structure which includes different Houses. In fact both systems pretty much agree to many of the same kind of symbolisms as being relevant re. those same 12 Houses. lst House represents the Self, the person, personality, place of birth, and time. 2nd House represents food, the next step, after birth, eating, certain aspects of family, especially early life, and speech. 3rd House reflects the nature and quality of younger brothers and sisters, communications, the arts, music, and especially the performing arts, 4th House represents the Heart, the home, the hearth, and Mother. Also such things as fixed assets, like the home, including cars, etc. are glimpsed at through the 4th House. 5th House represents the House of children, so number and characteristics of the children are glimpsed through this house... Also, 5th is the primary House of Education, and according to Jyotish also the houe of good/bad past life karma, and such things as mantras....and spiritual techniques and pracitices... 6th House has to do with Health, illness, rejuvenation, daily work and such adverse things as as law and doctoring... 7th House has to do with 'Partnerships', and therefore is commonly called the House of Mariage but, as it's the house of the 'other', it also relates to all partnerships, including business partnerships as well. 8th House Commonly called the House of death, so length of life, is looked at through this House, but some call this the House of Ayur, of life-span, so this is thought of as the House of 'Transformations' which are very important to improving longevity, and long life. Some other common areas include chronic habits, addictions, and compulsions.... 9th House is the House of Dharma, or Spirit. It's the primary Spiritual house and is sometimes called the House of God. So, religion as well as spirituality is looked at through this house. 10th House is the house of career, so occupation and the Public are looked at through this house. 11th House is the house of 'gains', called labha in Sanskrit, so how we gain, especially financially is looked at through this house.... 12th Houe is the last house, and represents the 'end' of life. It's also called the House of Expenditures, or House of loss, so losses, debts, expenditures/expenses, are look- ed through this house. So, we make our money from the 11th House, we spend it according to our 12th House, and what we have left over is glimpsed through the 2nd house.... The highest value of this end house, 12th, is it's also called the House of Enlight- enment, or 'transcendence' is graspec through this House. Also, both systems, basically, agree in the Sign reality in Astrology, though there are some differences, too. Some brief descriptions of the qualities and natures of these different Signs, or Constellations are: Aries Represents 'beginnings' so Aries is associated with dynamic, active and busy people. Aries are self-starters, too. Taurus Represent the earthy and practical. Taurians are hands on the ground, sensual, and loyal well as practical, and earthy. Geminis Are represented by the 2 'twin' stars Castor or Pollex, so qualiites, of 'two' doing many things at once is glimsed by this Sign. Also it's a sign ruled by Mercury, so it represents Intellectual talents, and communications. Cancer represents the careing, compassionate and the nourising qualities of life. As such it's ruled by the Moon, itself, and is therefore the Sign of all motherings....home and inner comfort and happiness are glimsped here... Leo is the sign of the Lion, the kind, regal, paternal and righteous qualities are glimsped in the higher Leo types. If afflicted then bossyness, dictatorial, and abusive qualities can manifest. Otherwise, Leo reperesents the careings of a good King for his people, as his own children! Virgo represents the discriminatory qualities of life, therefore Virgo is the sign of analysis, discrimination, criticalness, orderliness, and perfection. Libra rules balance, harmony, lack of discord, and is the sign expressed by mediators, couselors, teahers, educators and diplomats... Scorpio represents passion, convictions, and Ideals. Scorpio's are hightly idealistic, and very passionate about their convictions. Scorpio teaches us to 'care', and yet, also, not get too bent out of shape, if 'others' are not, living up to our standards or beliefs. Sagittarius represents the Sign of Knowledge, therefore learing, curiosity, traveling in both the mind as well as the World are glimpsed from this house... Capricorn is the sign of ambition, achievements, and is therefore the sign of the goat, climbing the Mountain, like the person climbing the corporate ladder, ambitious, dynamic, business like, and materialistic.... Aquarius is the sign of creativity, and if Capricorn is the sign of traditiaonal values, Aquarius is the Sign of Unconventional creativity. So Aquarius is the Sign of inventors, writers, Authors, anyone with a stronly fresh and unconventionally creative side. Pisces And finally, Pisces is the end. It represents the end of life, so liberation, fulfillment, Enlightenment are reflections of this house. Also, Piscians, are highly freedom oriented and so romance, idealism and poetry too, are looked at from here. I'd love to hear others reflect on their appreciations of both of these 2 great systems... and maybe we can first reflect on these qualities of the 2 systems that are the same.... and then we can begin to go into the differences... and hopefully, how we can evolve them, both into a more unified, Naural, whole... Sincerely, Mark Kincaid Flick <rubysun Sat, 24 Apr 2004 15:27:32 +0100 Re: Uranus oppostions and birth On 24/4/04 10:26 am, " morganaspirit " <morganaspirit wrote: > Of course Vedic does not use URANUS, another > dilemna. mmm have to think about this because this makes TOO much sense to > me > to discard. Don't discard it. I've had in my hands recently the charts of my close friend's daughter (her father is Indian) and her Indian fiancé, done in India by his father: the Indian astrologer has used the outer planets with the rest of his Vedic calculations.
