Guest guest
Flick, I just checked out your Tarot cards. I don't generally read the cards, but have a few decks I like to spend time with because of the art work. I love your illustrations! Is your deck for sale? I get a lot of requests for them so I should really get on and finish them...I'm about halfway through at present. It's funny because my training was in photography and digital illustration, but somehow I got sidetracked into a carer as a writer.
Guest guest
Hi Flick, I have been reluctant on buying a tarot deck, after I had thrown away my old cards about 12 years ago :-} I got too involved with the tarot and got nightmares and scary feelings and I never regretted it getting rid of them, lateron I did the same with about the 20 astrology books I owned. I was after that never so whimsical anymore. When people talk about Tarot I normally feel cold and aloof, but I don't have that feeling about your cards at all. However I get warm comfortable feelings toward your cards, so I think that is the sign that your deck is ok for me. So as soon as they are for sale, I would like to order a deck too ;-) Anne , Flick <rubysun@n...> wrote: > On 23/4/04 7:42 pm, " Therese Hamilton " <eastwest@s...> wrote: > > > Flick, I just checked out your Tarot cards. The cards all have to be inspired, too... >halfway through at present. I have a degree in art and used to be an art teacher in the schools, but I fell in love with astrology and eventually started to write and do a lot of research. Now I don't seem to have any artistic talent left, and certainly no time to pursue drawing and painting. Artistic interests and writing talent very often go together. Venus-Mercury. Guest guest
Anne, you've made my day! I got rid of some decks when I was first learning tarot as they were disturbing. Tarot imagery is deeply symbolic and can stir up things subconsciously, so you have to be careful of the imagery you work with. I nearly gave up on learning altogether because the Moon card in every deck frightened and disturbed me. Then I persevered and processes a whole load of stuff to do with the awful relationship I had with my manipulative, violent mother as a child...all evoked by that moon card. So I'm very careful with the imagery in my deck. Guest guest
Hi Flick, I just now found this tarot deck of yours and it IS beautiful. Did you do these paintings yourself? I am almost 100% sure I read that you did, and they are gorgeous to say the least. I see also that you have written several books. I am very impressed and my tweenie would love to know you if she had a chance. Strange that she rebels against anything I am interested in, but her interest is your books. Yep, nothing she would like more than to be a witch, and I of course no nothing about that, or practically nothing, well not that I remember. My family are pure Celtic. I have studied Tarot for exactly as long as Astrology. I met an artist at my employer's office in Toronto about 32 years ago and she was also an astrologer. I was immediately intrigued with Astrology and ordered a book from a book club in NY. They sent me 4 free books along with it, one being a Tarot book and Tarot deck, Edgar Cayce book written by Jess Stearn, I Ching book and a Robert Monroe book on Out of the Body journeys. I had bought the Compleat Astrologer by the Parkers. I did take a few years to figure out what in heck the ICHING was (my favorite oracle now), but immediately started studying those Tarot Cards, and Astrology book, etc. never looked back on that path, but still going strong. What I am saying is that book was the best investment of my life, not just because I learned to make a chart and figure it out but it began a journey of searching for spiritual truths. There was a very wise person at that bookshop obviously! I am still trying to draw a proper 'logo' so thank goodness I am not going to be designing a Tarot Deck. I have been designing my 'logo' for two years but did put it aside for almost that time too. This week I got out my drawings and decided to work on it again. She is 'raven woman' and what a challenge. Haven't been able to get her just right, yet! She seems to be taking a bit of a different image, so we will see. I named myself after 'the Morrigan' because at one point in my life I considered myself a warrior goddess when I confronted my whole family and then changed my identity. That is how I got my name. Morgana seemed a good compromise and that name wouldn't leave me as much as I tried to pick others in that 'protected identity change' procedure. It took me a year to accept it and start to be comfortable with it. Strange how that works isn't it. Uranus/Neptune were on my Mercury when I did the new ID and in Jyotish my Mercury is 0'00 Capricorn, an auspicious time I think now in retrospect. I am checking to see where the moon is and of course it is in Gemini and here I am yakking away, so you will have to pardon me. I too will be awaiting your deck. It is c'est magnifique! Hope I spelled that right, warm wishes, Morgana Quoting Flick <rubysun: > > > > > Anne, you've made my day! I got rid of some decks when I was first learning > > tarot as they were disturbing. Guest guest
Whew! That is a relief that you don't think I was too chatty. I have to admit that I am enjoying getting to know everyone here; well at least the chatty ones too. Wow, what a lucky break to get Isabel Hickey's books, as well as the rest. I bought my Compleat Astrologer in 1972, just a couple of years before you found yours and when you consider it, everything you need to calculate a chart is found within its pages, even a rudimentary ephermeris and house calculator. In fact I have bought three different editions of it because I used it so much they kept disintegrating on me! Well the day is beginning here and I have lots to do, (Morgana's Den in Greenwich sounds like a fascinating world to visit) warm wishes, Morgana PS It must have been so much fun to learn everything you did in photoshop, graphics, etc. and to be able to come up with the blended images you have - more impressive even, M Quoting Flick <rubysun: > > > > > On 24/4/04 9:08 am, " morganaspirit " <morganaspirit > > wrote: > > > > > Hi Flick, > > > I just now found this tarot deck of yours and it IS beautiful. Mine fell to pieces completely (or should that be completely ;-) and I never replaced it, though I've bought it for other people. The very first astrology book I read (probably 1972) was Sun sign Revelations by Maria Elisa Crunmere (I think that was her name). It deliberately set out to show the worst traits of each of the signs. The thing is that it was horribly accurate and made me realise there was something in astrology other than daily newspaper potted horoscopes. > > PS It must have been so much fun to learn everything you did in photoshop, > graphics, etc. and to be able to come up with the blended images you have - > more impressive even, M I'm a very visual person, so I love it. Guest guest
Flick, I'm sorry to say that because I've had so many messages lately I've been deleting some and must have deleted the one with the URL to your Tarot deck. I'm dying to see them. Could you please print the URL again? I'm with you guys about the Tarot. Over 30 yrs. ago when I first saw them in metaphysical stores (I think it was the Ryder White deck ... is that what it's called?) they attracted me and frightened me at the same time. I was pretty sure they were bringing up past life memories. At one time in my life, maybe about 10 yrs ago, I was using them constantly and compulsively. I asked one of my sons to hide them from me. So He took them and put them behind some books at his school library. I was mad! I'd meant to hide them in the house. Of course I never saw them again. So, I bought a new deck and they never worked for me at all. I think he was being divinely guided to get rid of them. I'd love to see yours. I think the pictures make all the difference. Don't know why my print got small and then big again. .... Guest guest
Hi Flick, Thanks for your answer too :-) Oh I am so happy that I am not the only one who feels like that about throwing away tarot decks. I allready thought that I went a bit crazy ;-) Yes I also think that your images are peacefull and not scary. You make me realize that I am also very receptive of images. (I can not bear horrormovies for instance.) I think that some of the cards can mean more positive things, like Death, which mostly means transformation. It can be depicted on a friendlier way than most decks do. I like your card about the Pan-like forest god. He is still naughty and expresses the meaning of the 15th card better than the devil, because we can choose to be seduced by him to do bad things or not. Guest guest
Thank you :-) Yep, that's me a few years ago (2000 I think). All this positive attention is nicely massaging my western Leo ascendant while making my Vedic Cancer ascendant go all fluttery - actually I'm lying, I'm enjoying every minute of it ;-)) On 25/4/04 3:47 am, " Bettina " <chiria wrote: > I just saw them. Hi Anne, The man in that card is my gorgeous husband. Actually I chose to use him to represent the Emperor. In paganism the horned god isn't seen as evil but as beneficial, a guardian of nature, and it was in this context that I used him. However, I did also use him for the Devil card to show how this god form was demonised by the church, but that in his natural state he is a force for good and positive growth. Flick. Guest guest
If you liked the movie, you should read the book. It was a lot better. No way could they fit such a long book into a 3 hr. movie. A lot got left out. It's a kind of long, complicated, convoluted soap opera, but I really got into it. .... Guest guest
Hi Anne, Yes I read the book exactly twenty years ago, when I think back to that time. Diandra, my 14yr old is presently reading it and took it to Mexico with her last week. Incidentally she returned safely and went through quite a 'shamanic' experience which has 'changed' her. I am quite blown away by it, not having expected the energies to manifest this way, but grateful for the healing involved for her. We just spent the last day and half having a wonderful time bonding and I am happy about the new energy and hope it lasts. Gosh being a Mom is tough work. That book inspired me to read all the Arthurian legends and I spent years seeking them out after that. The follow up called 'The Forest House' is very good as well. Hope you all had a great weekend...I sure did, cheers, Morgana Quoting Bettina <chiria: > If you liked the movie, you should read the book. It was a lot better. I know how painful that mother/daughter relationship can be. My daughter and I have always been very close, but even so she's suppressed a whole side of herself to " rebel " against me and now can't step back from that. They lose their way. I'm pleased yours has begun the circling back to wholeness.
Guest guest
Hi Flick, Your insight is exactly right on. That is what they do and i just couldn't put the words to it. They do suppress themselves/parts of themselves in order to rebel. Your daughter, age 24? having her baby with you?, that one? I am thinking that having her own baby will bring her back completely eventually, although I thought that with my eldest and so far it has not happened, but I am SURE it will eventually. By the way, I wanted to add that your Ace of Cups is especially beautiful and of course your husband too! Lucky you! cheers, Morgana Quoting Flick <rubysun: > > > > > On 26/4/04 1:10 am, " morganaspirit " <morganaspirit > > wrote: > > > > > Incidentally she returned safely and went through quite > > > a 'shamanic' experience which has 'changed' her.
