Guest guest
Dear Mark ... Thank you for your response. Wow, what a great place for learning this board is! I do think that though anyone has the potential to be "conscious" and change their life, for a lot of people it's unlikely that they will (during any one particular life), because we're all living in our own realities, and our own realities seem right to us. I think we have to start to feel really uncomfortable to want to change (hooray for Saturn!). Let me think of an example. A person who has strong racial prejudices will think that that is the correct way to be, that that's the way God wants us to be, that that indeed is the way God him/herself is, that anyone who doesn't think that way is way off track. Oftentimes a person with these beliefs will even attract negative experiences with the group that they dislike, thereby convincing themselves further that they were right all along. Then in some lifetime in some century in some millennium they'll have an experience that will turn them around and make them rethink their beliefs. Some people are destined to be "stuck" for many lives before they become "unstuck". Now back to Rahu, something I think you said a while back (maybe it was somebody else), but now I can't find it so I have to put it in my own words is Rahu is where we think of ourselves as God (in that we can do no wrong in that area). That's why R tends to trip us up. Many of the cult leaders who've made the headlines in the past several decades have had strong Rs, cnj one of the lights or the asc. Maybe R is where we think we ARE God and K is where we dissolve into God (or the universe, or our surroundings) and lose our sense of individual ego. R is kind of like the young child who still sees himself as being in control of the his world (by screaming, demanding, or just wishing) and K is like the old person who knows they'll be going out soon and nothing really matters all that much. A thought on Saturn: it's where we feel the weakest, so we either give in to that weakness or overcompensate. People with it close to the asc. seem to either pay copious amounts of attention to their physical bodies (lots of vitamins and supplements and exercise), or let themselves go and be sort of passively self-destructive. .... When we're aware of how we're expressing our planetary energies we can not allow ourselves to be controlled by them, and this probably goes double for the nodes, wouldn't you think?I've learned over the years, some very powerful, 'way's in which to literally begin the process of changeing, improveing and even transforming our malefic, Planetary thought patterns....We created these, awhile back, so we're meant to do this...Only Jyotish/Astrology has a great power to generate these improvements,...way faster,...thenjust going through our karmas....Cuz even that eventually will change...for example, we have a mars accident once, twice, ...up to the 10th time, and eventually we get it, we're going too fast! But, looking at ourselves through our charts allows us to 'grok' it faster! Rahu might really want a lot of stuff (or power, or attention) it doesn't need, but if the person detaches herself from that want and asks herself if she really needs it, and the answer comes up "No", then she's not letting herself be controlled by R. Of course, it might take a certain kind of chart to be able to do that (perhaps a strong Saturn and Mercury?) I think every manner of a chart, has the potential...of every transformation...We don't realize it often, but the very things we're frustrated with, are the very things we've come to change.....There is this concept in Vedic Knowledge called, 'pragya parad'.Don't know if you've heard of it...But, it means, roughly, 'mistake of intellect'.Though it doesn't mean, individual intellect, but mistake of one's Cosmic intellect. It's the idea that all sufferings, all problems, all mistakes in life, stem from these kinds of 'mistakes of intellect', or break downs in our Cosmic, full potential...When I contemplated this, after being in India, in 1988, it occured to me over the course of the next few years,....that the 'malefics' in our charts....qualify as good candidates for our pragya parads, or mistaken patterns....that we're presently, identified with, but which are not healthy...One of the Vedic scholoars, there, said: "these pragya parads are important because not only are they the source of our sufferings, but they're very insidious. They exist such that, sometimes, we spontaneously do that which isn't healthy for us..."So, a lot of the Vedic disciplines, including Ayurved and even yoga, goes to transforming this twisted molecule, wrong patterns,.... to change...My whole research in Jyotish/Astrology....has been are our malefics our mistaken notions, or patterns of thought and action,...that are spontaneously leading us astray? And can these be changed? Now, after all these years, I'm very happy to report...they can! I could never get why R is compared to Saturn and K to Mars, at least as far as the personality is concerned. Saturn is cautious, sensible, frugal and has to do with poverty and diminishment. R seems the opposite of these. I think Rahu & Saturn are only roughly similar, especially in regards to both representing imbalances of sorts..But, where malefic Saturn represents being out of balance due to overexertion, straining, working too hard, for example....Malefic Rahu represents being out of balance, due to a kind of straining of the desire mechanism that wants things....and gets soooo preoccupied with the process of acquiring that it doesn't realize...that it's gotten into all kinds of unhealthy patterns like compulsions, and even addicitons...In fact, K seems more like Saturn to me, as it has to do with lack, invisibility, renunciation. In Vedic astr. Saturn and Ketu both have to do with renunciation. Then, Mars is bombastic, aggressive, straightforward ... not Ketu traits. Do you think that the reverse could be true? That is, R more like Mars and K more like Saturn? I do find that Rahu....improves, in much the same way that Saturn improves by encouraging the rest, and relaxation...part of us....Ketu, may have a slight more pitta quality then Rahu.... but it's easier, sometimes, to look at the particulars in people's charts...and see what the symbolism is there....And then, do a kind of Jyotish healing!take careMarkps...have been enjoying your interest and participations very much.Perhaps it would be different in transits from the nodes than in the natal chart. .... Dear Friends:Here's a fascinating discussion about Rahu & Ketu, and even how one can discover how, any planet is being Malefic or Benefic for any horoscope.Mark K.Dear Fiends:I have some thoughts to share regarding Rahu/Ketu.The eclipses, in November were a powerful learning, time, for me, to really gain more in-depth wisdom as to the nodes.I love watching, or experiencing the Stars, because a kind of purity comes forth, in experiencing them, primordially....I do get the general, symbolism of the nodes being 'enemies of the Sun and Moon', as they're like that for most people's chart. But, because I've also come to understand that all 'malefic' situations in our chart, are really just blessings in disguise, then there must be some positivity, underlieing even Rahu & ketu. You can see that, sometimes, more vividly in people's charts who seem to have positive or Benefic Rahus/or Ketu. They get what they want, but don't go through that typically, Rahuish, effect of then loosing it all in the end. Now, I understand that Rahu primarily represents the 'desire' side of life. Therefore, for those who have gotten into the Malefic side of Rahu, they have this dominating, intensity of desires, compulsions, chronic patterns, even addictions. So, whenever we've evolved to a point where desires, themselves, have taken over, they do begin a kind of life of their own, and as such lead to all manners of imbalances, abuses, and degradations. This is, however, a great spiritual dilema, because the purpose of desires is pure. Desires lead us to more and more. Desires, in fact, lead us to fulfillment, even to our Spirituality. But, where desires become dominant, overshadowing even, the very purpose of 'desires', then they become Rahuish! So, what we need to do, is re-connect our 'desires' with our inner, silent, Consciousness side.Desires, serve us, and we don't serve them!PS.... One of the best ways I've also found to determine whether any Planet is acting malefically or benefically, for that horoscope, is...to examine whether that Planet is causing... so-called negative, or un-happy, results and consequences or whether the more positive significations are the result. For example, the Sun has two sides to it.When being benefic, wonderful Self-confidence, and positive, self-esteem, and inner power result. If acting malefically, then arrogance, egoism, superiority, or lack of self-confidence, and esteem result. For the Moon, inner happiness, joy, compassion, sensitivity, receptivity, wonderful, inner feelings .... are the result of a Benefic Moon. However, if acting Malefically, the Moon can reflect, qualities, of shyness, sadness, worry, anxieties, fear, and un-happiness.For Jupiter, it's benefic side is whenever a person is living natural faith, rich spiritual content, and belief or actual experiences of the inherent, spiritual or divine nature of life. Also, practical expressions of a 'good' Jupiter, are good luck, grace, openess to Mentors, teachers, and even, enjoying the whole process of learning and teaching, and education. If Jupiter is being temporarily 'malefic' it's repercussions will be lack of faith, lack of natural, nature support. Questioning, skeptical qualities, no easy faith or belief in life's divine nature or origins. Jupiter in Capricorn, which is supposed to be the worse place of Jupiter, is symbolic of where 'matter', or Capricorn, has come to dominate, 'spirit', or Jupiter. All the planets can be analysed, like this...which goes a lot farther at helping to understand the inherent Malefic or Benefic status of a Planet, then, just whether it's ....o In a friendly Sign, or in it's Own Sign, Exalted, debilitated or enemy sign.o Or, the natural ruler of a so-called good house, 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10 & 11 houses... vs.o The more malefic or dustana houses, 3rd, 6th, 8th, & 12th ....Sorry, if this was too long.I got inspired by this question of the inherent benefic/maleficness.... And beside, the Sun is Exalted right now, so great time, to focus on these great truths....Jai Guru!Mark KincaidPS...For those of you who haven't heard, I also write a Jyotish newsletter. Guest guest
Yes Flick, I like Liz Greene's book on Saturn too; one of my first that I read of hers. I can't wait to get some vedic books, but have other financial priorities right now....they are on the list, but in the meantime I am learning lots right here. I particularly note for me that my transiting rahu/ketu are on my asc/desc the end of June and I must say that I worry more about that transit than the upcoming square to Mars from Saturn, oh well! Hope you daughter is doing well and your seven kitties are all happy together. My old guy would have a fit if any other kitties invaded. It has taken him almost three years not to hiss at my kitten, now all grown up. warm wishes, MorganaFlick <rubysun wrote: On 21/4/04 12:05 am, "morgana" <aquatiger1950 wrote:> I really have to state here that Saturn is not always the bad guy. Guest guest
Hi Flick, Thanks, and I agree, it makes it a happy environment to have a personal touch, although a lot of sites do not encourage it. I chuckled away thinking about your description of yourself as the couch potato western Moon in Taurus and the energy coming with Ratu. I am referring to my western angles too, although I guess (had to go look) Ketu is about to conjunct my Ascendant either system. Flick my moon -western is almost 29 Libra and I see it is 4°Libra JY so it too will feel Ketu's tongue. Yes it is an interesting time and for me especially so, because I am in the midst of intensive emotional therapy....a ripping apart of it all so to speak, finishing the intensive exactly when Ketu is right on the Ascendant....same day I think. You will have Ketu opposing your moon, in your 4th? Of course Ratu makes so much sense so close to your moon now with the birth imminent and hopefully after the eclipse, I would think, despite your daughter's impatience. I still remember that feeling since my young one is 14, even though my eldest is 34! Hopefully the ketu transit to my moon does not bring any more grandchildren just yet! Gee, now that it is on my mind, I am going to have to check it out for timing, now that I am remembering all those transits to my moon in my earlier years! Hmmm, New years day! Oh well, the pleasure of anticipation with this business! Now I really must get to bed since it is almost 2am here on Vancovuer Island, although I note the day well begun over there, cheers, Morgana I presume your little grandchild might be an indication of that. I have noticed the nodes involved with babies, birth and more. My grandson turns 4 on May 5th, just after the eclipses, thank goodness for his sake and his new solar return. cheers, MorganaFlick <rubysun wrote: On 21/4/04 8:22 am, "morgana" <aquatiger1950 wrote:>I particularly note for me that my transiting> rahu/ketu are on my asc/desc the end of June and I must say that I worry more> about that transit than the upcoming square to Mars from Saturn, oh well!I would say you are in for an exciting time with the chance for deepspiritual growth. And all you can really for now is surrender (as you obviously have!) and breathe a sigh as all that old stuff gets transformed. Wow! Uncomfortable but so exciting too once you have had a rest and a chance to breathe again... Brave you to put yourself through it. >You will have Ketu opposing your moon, in your 4th? I'm such a dilly! I'd conveniently forgotten all about Ketu :-)) This is so intriguing. I have Jupiter in 4th too, supporting my Moon (gaja kesari yoga), so maybe that's one reason the Moon hasn't been too troubled by Rahu. Actually Jupiter falls in 4th in my western chart too, as does Moon in 10th. Also at this time the house is sometimes filled with a lovely, peaceful, happy energy...as if the new little one is gradually coming in, liking where s/he is going to be. Anyway, with Rahu in Aries, I would expect the beginning of something, a rebirth or the commencement of a new cycle for all of us, relating to wherever it falls. It's of great interest that Rahu/Ketu are transiting your self/relationship axis. Do you feel that the emotional therapy will release new energy for relationships as well as in your personal emotional life? Ketu over your moon would presumably help with clearing out the old emotionally. As I said, very brave of you: surely a confrontation with the shadow, through which deep healing can occur - but how few people have the courage to take that journey. >I still remember that feeling since my young one is > 14, even though my eldest is 34! Guest guest
Hi Flick, As you can SEE, I am well at it now, slowly going through my emails and suddenly seeing another five in there, but I shall restrain myself and go through these first! I do so enjoy a good conversation about people and planets and the mixture, but then I have Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Sun in third! So you have Jupiter in the 4th with Ketu, and a new and wonderful living energy moving into that house with your grandchild's birth; how symbolic! I envy you in a big way, loving babies the way I do. Seems like your grandchild will have a similar birthday (albeit newborn) as my grandson about to turn 4 on May 5th, to the 34 year old. Is it your 35 year old giving birth? Uhhh, yes, tough work to be sure Flick, but I see it as a last chance to set things right so I am doing the emotional work hard as it is. Yes, looking deep within the soul and seeing the darkness, exposing it and bringing it to the light is quite a process and in actuality the reason my sleep has been very interrupted since it began in January. First time in my life that I can't just lie down and sleep for 8 or 10 or even more hours. My eldest daughter and I still have to face these issues together after my group intensive is finished early July. I am not looking forward to it and have felt it might be easier to run, but no, this time I will not run and hopefully she will not either! She is beginning a t-square with Pluto/Moon/Mercury activated by transiting Hades/Pluto., so of course I forecast the work will be done with Mom. Clearing out the debris should also help with lover relationships too I would expect. Relationships have suffered greatly in my life. Usually they are the first to go when the going gets rough and it will be wonderful to be able to be clear and perhaps even intimate with a partner, thus ensuring a really good and honest relationship. I am open to it, but know the work needs to be completed, well this portion of it anyway, first before I jump into anything else! Well this is getting intense, so it is time to take a break and go look at the charts of those twins of Anne's. Something I had to restrain myself from doing at 4am, but I was simply too tired then. Guest guest
Dear Flick, Thank you for the blessings. I need all I can get of them, so they are appreciated. What the heck, life is a challenge and I always said I never wanted to look back and see life as boring. Your daughter is having her baby almost young it seems with the way people are now having babies, however, I do remember how easy it was for me having a baby at 20 rather than 40. It all fell into place so much easier. She will do fine, and of course there is YOUR connection to your grandchild. I was looking at my vedic stuff and Rahu was a sub-dasa of the Saturn one when my Grandson was born. Two years from now I have a Ketu one happening for a year, I think and I am thinking, oh, oh! I'll have to watch my tweenie because I can't imagine my eldest doing it again....you never know though! It will be interesting to figure myself out vedically and see just what caused those challenges I was born with; of course I have my deep suspicions that I set it up previously just to learn what I need to grow, ugh! Flick my rahu is in the 5th and it has felt like the creativity switch got shut off these last few years, not a self-confidence issue like yours but literally shut off! Interesting to read the nakshatra's and see where mine is placed and to see the Dasa cyles. Some of them are too long! I have noticed though that I am in a Mercury Dasa since fall, for almost 20 years, with the mercury beginning the dasa cycle until Feb 2006, whereas Ketu then becomes the leader of the sub until late '07only one year of it, and that is probably very good. I was under a Saturn Dasa until last fall and was under that influence for almost twenty years....jeesh! Glad that is over. It is all very intriguing and of course I have to study lots more, but will have to find my info on-line since I do not have a book on it. There is lots of info out there too I notice. Especially when I was trying to download some software. I did download one recommended, Jyotish Star, but it is a sixty day one and no printing was allowed, no copying was allowed, jeesh, made me angry so I took it out. Tried to find the other one by J Hora but no luck so far. But am off to bed now, early tonight! cheers and have a good day, MorganaFlick <rubysun wrote: On 21/4/04 9:46 pm, "morgana" <aquatiger1950 wrote:Hi Morgana,Well, it's morning again here and I'm just working through my emails.> So you have Jupiter in the 4th with Ketu,Ketu is only there by transit. She was so fed up that she was unable to drink all the free booze provided as part of the honeymoon package! > > It will be interesting to figure myself out vedically and see just what caused > those challenges I was born with; of course I have my deep suspicions that I > set it up previously just to learn what I need to grow, ugh! I have the problem of no jyotish software after switching to Mac platform. I had Parashara's Light but it won't run on my Mac - I'm still waiting for them to bring the long promised Mac version out. It's putting me off going on with my Vedic course.
