Hello All...

I was prompted by our group leader to do a brief intro <grin>. I've been on

the list for a little while now lurking in the background as I find myself

increasingly busy nowadays with very little time for lists:o(

I live in Maine in the U.S. and have been exposed to Astrology all my life

on and off. My mother was on an intermediate level with it in the 60's

while I was growing up and was always fascinated with it amongst other

things. I grew up in Orange County, California and have lived across the

U.S. at times in my life. Recently my spouse retired due to medical

problems and I left gov't work to follow our dream and move out to remote

Maine with our 2 teenagers and 2 Jack Russells for a quiet life after

working for the government for years as a counselor for those who are

disadvantaged on many levels (mental health, drug/alcohol addictions,

abuse...etc). My spouse was in the military for 20 years and was a

professor for 17 years amongst other things. I have three children....one

of which just graduated from college, one in her junior year of high school

and one in the 8th grade. Hopefully he'll live long enough to get through

high school (the youngest is often the most difficult...LOL) and I tell him

once in awhile the only reason he's alive is because he looks like me and

has brown eyes...HEE HEE. You ought to see his chart...it'll make you

cringe. He was my 3rd c-section and I died on the table (Near death

experience) while having him. He has a Moon in Virgo in the 8th house so

I'm wondering if sometimes such a 'touchy' Moon in the 8th can indicate

quite literally that the mother (moon) died (8th) due to a drug reaction

(virgo opp to pisces which in western can point to drugs for those of us who

have studied western on some level)?

Anyway, I started exploring Vedic astrology a few years ago. I was raised in

Self Realization Fellowship (Yogananda) as a child so I 'bypassed' orthodox

faith without realizing it which in this country back then was 'different'.

I had my chart read and my husband's chart read by James Braha and found it

so riveting and just overwhelming that I HAD to pursue that path. For some

reason it all clicked and since I had already been worshipping Shiva,

Brahma, Krishna, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Saraswati etc. all my life (you should see

my altar), this all made 'sense' to me. I had just never been exposed to

vedic although I had been exposed to the religious end of it all. I found

the leap from Western to Eastern easy as I have had some beef's with Western

astro anyway especially amongst the new age way of thinking. While I agree

with trying to help someone as that is my nature (counselor) and for those

who might know me my attitude is never ever give up no matter how many

people tell you to lay down and die......I believe in practical counseling

and not bald faced lying to a client. One has to assess one's abilities (we

all can't be queen of England...LOL...no matter how much we visualize it and

invoke it), one's opportunities and one's possibilities before going down a

certain path to a certain goal instead of dreaming in la la land and

deluding one's self due to a reader of any kind being a false 'guru'.

Currently I am a jewelry designer (I do wire wrap jewelry and beaded work)

which I've done on the side for a long time and am about to launch that

business. I've done a lot in my life and have had some cataclysmic

situations as most of us have I'm sure.

There are many things about Western astrology I DO like but over the years

there are many things about it I disagree with. In Western I would be seen

as a double Gemini with Merc in Cancer. In Vedic I'm a double Taurus with

Merc in Gemini. I have NEVER felt like an official Gemini in western

definitions. It MAY have something to do with my sun/moon in a

'traditional' Taurus house (by western definitions the 2nd house will always

have a venus/Taurus veneer no matter what sign/planet is in it or rules it)

even though in Gemini. I have been told by many astrologers in person that

I do not act like a 'normal' Gemini ...especially one that has both sun/moon

in it with a mutual reception to Merc in Cancer. I am very reserved in

person, look very 'venusian' and Taurus-like, am conservative on the

outside, stubborn, practical minded, home oriented etc. So I have never

identified with 'gemini' unless I'm on the net and then the words come easy.

In western astro right now I have just survived both Pluto in my 8th by

transit in opposition to my Sun/Moon for the last few years (it's still on

my Sun) with Saturn having conjuncted my Venus/Asc first in 1998 (I got

married so it wasn't malefic but has brought me great joy) and then on to

conj my Moon/Sun (not fun) and is now on my Mercury. It hasn't been easy

with Sade Sati but it sure was better this time around then let's say about

30 years ago when I was about 12 years old...that was the worst. So I'm

surviving and learning just what I can do in life, putting up boundaries

around my 'turf', learning to let go of things that are poisonous and do not

serve me and mine well and other things. It's been wild since Pluto went

into Sag a few years ago in Western (or scorp for vedic astro).

That's about it for now....nice to meet you all...
