Dear Adnan, & friends, all:

I have this simple thing I put people through in my Jyotish courses, which can help alot, in studying Jyotish/Astrology...

To keep self-referral, to stay focused on what you know as Truth, and to draw more and more Truth, to yourself...

Before you start....studying...all the books...

Do one simple thing..

Make a list of all your Qualities, Tendencies, and Characteristics:

I call this the 'qualities list'....

And in that...write down as many things as possible, that you know about yourself...

How you feel about yourSelf?, self-confidence,...

Emotionalism, stable? intutive, flexible...etc...

Intellectual ?

On and on...

and then, as you're studying your Astrology....

When you find something....that sounds like you, especially if you find in 2 or more sources,....

and....

especially, if you can find one of your 'qualities'..that seems to fit that Astrological description...

then,.....write the Jyotish configuration....next to your Quality...

When you get through your entire Qualities, list...and you've got an Astrological configuration that fits each one...

then, you've done it.. you've learned a lot.....!

See below for the sample... you might like....to use..

Sincerely,

Here is a partial list of some of the qualities and tendencies...

I was thinking about...

Feel free to use this format....

and add anything else that you can think of....

Human Nature, Tendencies, Characteristics, Qualities....

Everyone has qualities and tendencies... which we don't always realize are qualities of our Jyotish Charts, as well.

Here are some examples of what I mean.

Enjoy!

And have fun!

Remember, no tests or grading in Mark's jyotish classes!

Re: 2-Flick...4/3....Re: Moon & Other Simultaneous Astrological Forces....!

Dear Veena, dear friends, dear Mark,

For the basics, there are some files and lessons at the files sections of other Jyotish groups, also some of the websites have some lessons available.

" But " I do not think this is the best way to go. Best is to get 2-3 " good " basic books, and read and study the one that you like the best. One good book for beginning is " Light on Life, An introduction to the astrology of India " by Defouw and Svoboda. This is both a beginners book and is quite comprehensive. Also the information inside is very well organized for the beginner, e.g. the reader learns in a logical sequence of steps.

There is a huge number of books printed on Jyotish, but most is not suitable for the beginner, since they are not well organized, reading the thoughts and knowledge of a Jyotish Pandit, written down in an unorganized manner (even though the text may be very valuable) is not conducive to easy learning in steps.

Once you get the basics more or less straight, it would be good to get a copy of the, what I would call the basic book for Jyotish, Parashara's Hora Shastra, which is a " reference " book.

Jyotish according to my beleif is a science but is unlike sciences like Maths and Physics, where you build blocks of knowledge one on the top of the other. For the basics this may be so to a certain extent. But as you advance you can not continue in logical steps except by the guidance of a good Guru. It is more the development of one faculty of the mind, which can be termed as " Jyotish intuition " , and this comes from much practice, and reading, not so much logic.

When you look at a chart, you see 9 Planets/Grahas in 12 Houses/Bhavas. An accomplished Jyotish Pandit can derive from this, unimaginable amount of insight and predictions, and all this can not be formulised in a systematic series of logical formulas. Going by the basic principles in the books, one can say 100 things for a chart, 60 of which may be contradicting to others, and to the reality of the native represented by the chart. So in comes " intuition " which would seperate the applicable from the non-applicable, through a process that can not be formulised logically. So the only solution (according to my humble view) is to practice and practice with a good set of basic tools, e.g. knowledge and principles.

I've seen on discussion lists things like; " For this chart, this is here and that is there, so how come the result (or the perdiction) is like that, I do not beleive this is possible " . This kind of too simplistic apporach to Jyotish I beleive does not work, so one should not be expecting a simple logical formula or method to become a good Jyotishi, this simply does not exist, since intuition can not be formulised into a logical and a systematic / complete set of rules.

This by the way, is the fun side of Jyotish, since arguments based on different views can go on and on.

One should also be aware of the fact that there is not one single method and set of tools to analyse a chart. Two Jyotishis using an almost totally different sets of tools can analyse the same chart and arrive at the same predictions.

Best regards, Adnan.
