dear friends:

Learning to 'allow' nature to conduct meditation...is a great, valuable experience...

because it prepares...us to learn to 'see', ....and move towards the highest value

of each Planet.... and as we conceive, of the 'highest'....then,.... the greatest strengths,

of Nature start to vibrate within us!

Jai Guru!

And as meditation progresses and the ease of silence begins to be more and more....

I realized.... how precious it is to learn to let 'nature' do it.

Almighty Nature, conducts the inward and even the outward strokes of meditation...

and as we learn to allow this to blossom, our very higher Self....

begins to show itself...

but it being the Self...of all, shows no favor, no superiority, no arrogance.... only the pure love

of Oneness...

And all we have to do is get out of the way....

I love what Maharishi used to say.... " just get to a chair twice a day " ....

Jai Guru....

On my TTC MMY quoted the Vedas, with reference to meditation, as saying ³Be easy to us with gentle effort²

He didn¹t want to elaborate too much on this, probably for fear it would be misinterpreted, but he said it.

Edmond, I don't understand why you find this so funny. You rightly

point out that the very first instruction we recieved was to think

the mantra effortlessly. Easier said than done, but necessary to say

none the less so as to help the student avoid falling into a " way "

of thinking the mantra and keep them in the effortless mode which

is " no way " .

As I have became more experienced with the T.M. mantra meditation

one of the progressions that I noticed was that I continued to learn

how I was putting some sort of subtle effort in to the thinking of

the mantra. I was becoming familiar with more and more subltle

levels of thinking. That is a good thing, not a problem arising from

not groking the initial instruction. When I sit down today to my

meditaion I start from a very surface level of sounding and settle

into a more subtle mental level as my program goes on. It seems

quite natural that ones meditation " career " would also develop along

similar lines, progressing to a more and more subtle experience. The

idea of effortlessly letting go has turned out to be (at least in my

experience) a uniquely tricky little endeavor. Every action, inner

or outer seems to require some initial effort, learning to act

without effort is like trying to throw confetti with glue on your

hands, sticky.

Just lately in the last couple of years have I been starting to

experience what it is truely like to think effortlessly. Effortless

thinking of the mantra did happen early on in my T.M. experience but

it was always accidental which is fine but at some point the

landscape inside my head became more visible and I could see some of

the mechanics of thinking. As that happened it became apparent that

even at the most subtle level the slightest little thought was like

moving a tiny muscle, it required some effort. Thinking the mantra

is a subtle little thought, were back to effort again. So I guess

the intellect is where effort resides, oh! that means we have to let

go of the intellect in order to effortlessly think the mantra. Yeah,

that's easy, just let go of the intellect, one of the paramount

instructions from Krishna to Arjuna. Sure, no problem, we'll master

that little subtlety right away.

I think the fact that people are recognizing the fact, after who

care's how many years, that they are using effort to think the

mantra is a blessing. That means they/we are learning the differance

between the intellect and transcendance. Learning the differance

between the hard thought and the soft thought that MMY recently

talked about the importance of. He mentioned that fundamental,

elementary aspect of the practice for a reason. Because it is the

key and the stumbling block for everyone concerning this practice.

When I truly let go in my program there is an immediate quantum

change in the experience, the personality witness makes note of

this, gets a little excited, and snatches me back into the intellect

like a bungie cord. Little by little, no disapointment, just being

on the right track is all the support I need.
