Guest guest
Also, you can get someone with the talent for all of this who writes the book, doesn't want the fame and leaves the unpublished item in the loft - neelam gupta Thursday, October 23, 2008 7:39 AM Re: Re: Books Karaka & Hous Dear Sunil, I am a silent member of this forum, but I guess the topic of books makes me chip in. We have two issues here, Karaka for books and House for books. We take it one by one. *Regarding the houses, *books per se will have no place in the chart. If I ask you where do you see elephant in a chart, will you be able to say? It is only when I relate to something, we get to see it through the houses and place it in the relevant house. So it is important to identify *what I do with the books*. Unless and until we're able to connect native's relation with the books, we cannot place books in a chart. This relationship will be dynamic and change with age and his life cycle. A student might be dealing with books but later he may not even read a newspaper. Whereas another person will be heavily into reading habits. When we see books in relation with self it could be: *My books, as my possessions, in 2H*. What is the purpose that these books serve, could be seen from the houses which connect as secondary houses. My reading habit, and loud reading in 2H My effort for reading 3H My writing books, 3H/5H My reading and learning material may be 4H/5H? My sacred learning 9H My secret books, like porn etc. 8H *If I am a writer/author,* books are my creativity and fall under 5H. Then again all the above will connect depending upon what I write. *If I am a publisher or a printer*, then 3H will show books and 10H will relate to activity with books. *Regarding the karakas* or the planets, mercury and mars will primarily make books as such. Mercury is paper and mars is ink. If it is a book on astrology, we can say + Jupiter. A coffee table book on arts will surely have + venus An old manuscript will have + Saturn A porn book will have an element of + Rahu in it. So we go on differentiating like this. With this modern age, we have electronic books also. So the list is endless. Primarily you will be required to specify the purpose of books in the native's life, then only we can try to locate them in a chart. In my own case, I have very strong connection with books ever since I can remember. I possess books worth a big library, I am a hopeless bookworm, and not only books I would devour every piece of printed paper, even when in trains would not spare the paper used for wrapping chanajor garam, I am connected with writing editing, printing, publishing, designing, everything to do with books. Hope this helps. Regards Neelam
Guest guest
Dear Sunil and All, I thank all the members who have appreciated and found my post useful. Sunil is still bent on finding a place for books in the horoscope… let us forward some reasoning on this. Most of the classics agree on 2H/4H/5H for vidya and learning. 2H is more of informal learning through parents and at-home. It will mostly relate to oral learning. We may not need books here. (it has become different in today's times when 2-year-olds are being forced to read and write). But 2H is also our possessions and we include wealth, gems, assets, etc. in 2H. If books are one of those assets that we have/created, then we can put the books here. More formal and bookish learning starts in 4H and 5H, which are the main houses for Vidya. But books are the tools for leaning, not learning. At best they can be called teachers/gurus… 'the givers of gyan'. Should we not then put them in 9H? Weren't Vedas, which were the tools of ancient learning covered in 9H? I feel that the classics have given us enough indications to locate everything in a horoscope and we should extend our logics on the basis of this guidance, using the desh-kaal-patra and primarily KAAL. With changing times, the whole perception of teaching-learning and tools needed for that has undergone a sea change. For a distant learning session, where would I place my computer? Is it a book, a teacher, a classroom, or just a modern gadget in my hands? Apart from a tool for learning, it is used for communication, entertainment.... so where do we see it? Guest guest
Dear Sunil, We find houses for elephants, horses, palanquin's, umbrellas, etc... but we cannot hope to see books in this list, because in those times, there were no books. Knowledge was not imparted by way of written documents. Most of the knowledge was in Guru-shishya parampara, by word of mouth. Check Uttarkalamrit which gives maximum significations of any house and you won't find books mentioned anywhere. That is why I tried to substitute Gurus for books and hence 9H. I guess Sahni ji's point about communication is also noteworthy, though it is not learning as such, but is a process in learning. Guest guest
Dear Neelam, It's not about your post only /that people liked/,it's your thinking process that shines through- that we need more of, so precious, so hard to find.. Your future contribution/s/ to The List will be highly appreciated!
