Guest guest
Merry Solstice to All, and to all a Good... week! Today is December 21st, a very important day of the year. Today the sun the furthest away from the middle of the sky that it ever gets. If you're in the Northern Hemisphere - this means today is the Sun's " weakest " day, in the sense that it is has the least amount of time to shine... it's the " shortest day " - the beginning of Winter! If you are in the Southern Hemisphere is the opposite true? Not exactly. For those in the Southern Hemisphere today is the " longest day " of your year - you will have sunlight and warmth longer today than any other day in your calendar. It's the beginning of Summer. But regardless of if you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere there is one thing true for both: Today the Sun aligns with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy itself. Astrologically the center of the galaxy represents the origin of creation itself, and gives power even to our Sun. We don't know the exact coordinates of the galactic center, and we don't have an exactly perfectly method of calculation. This is why there are various " millennium theories " / " doomsday pronouncers " / etc. all focusing BASICALLY on a time beginning around 2000 CE. The Sun's alignment with the Galactic center marks, in the Vedic Calendar (and the Mayan as well), a transition junction between a " iron age " (kali yuga) and a " bronze age " (dvapar yuga) - within a larger procession of cycles as well. This junction involves humanity shaking off most of the negative implications of the things we have developed as a species since the beginning of the Kali Yoga / Iron Age (around 40 BC ish ), and a return to a way of life more in tune with natural and supernatural forces and beings. The exact point of this transition is unknown - there's an urge to say that it's " December 21, 2012 " because for one thing that's such a cool looking date =) and for another thing, it's when the highly accurate Mayan astrologers calculated it to occur. But frankly, we don't know. It could be anytime between the 1980 - 2439 CE. Sorry we are so inaccurate, cut us some slack, it IS kali-yuga! ;-) Personally I have a hunch that the Mayans are fairly correct in marking it at the Winter solstice of 2012 - just on the basis of practical observation of world trends. But I don't think there is going to be any one DAY when you wake up and say, " OMG - everything changed? " Rather, I think the blurriness of the exact date of this age- change is ACCURATE, in the sense that it will be a somewhat gradual transition. So anyway - - - let's get back to TODAY! " Christmas " is " Christmas " because today is the winter solstice. In astrology the Sun - who is the center of all things - represents your soul. It is a day of special spiritual significance, when the Sun is at it's weakest point (if you are in Southern Hemisphere conceive of it as being the day the Sun has to do it's hardest work while rising in the mysterious center of the galaxy). For the next few days there will be an apparent " stall " or " station " in the Sun's progress towards the South, and then, on the well known December 25th, he will have absorbed the power he needs from the Galactic center and begin regaining his strength and proceeding northward once again. Interesting that Kali Yuga has seen this holiday become connected to the birth of a resurrected messiah, because this is EXACTLY what the solstice represents - the resurrection of the Sun, our true and obvious messiah. Merry Solstice! Yours, Vic DiCara www.vicdicara.com

Hi Vic, I was under the impression that Aswini was the origin of creation, hence its position as the first of the Nakshastras. Dan Stay connected to the people that matter most with a smarter inbox.
