Guest guest
To All, If i could ask members here for help in understanding the following I would be most appreciative. I understand that Dharma Artha Kama and Moksha are the four values of living. I also understand that they have their own houses where they reflect their essence. So, if i construct a northern chart and mark the Dharma houses in their 1,5,10 houses and mark where the Artha houses are, 2,6,10, and mark where the Kama houses are, 3,7,11 and finally mark where the Moksha house are, 4,8,12 then has anyone heard of and if so, what do you call it when the houses are also marked for trigger, result and solution? OK, let me explain further lst house Dharma is a Trigger, 5th hse is a Result and 9th hse is a Solution. 2nd hse Artha is a Result, 6th hse is a solution and 10th hse is Trigger. 3rd hse Kama is a Solution, 7th hse is a Trigger and 11th hse is a Result 4th hse Moksha is a Trigger, 8th hse is a Result and 12th hse is a Solution. Also, how would one delineate the chart houses from this perspective? Any Knowledge of help would be great! Guest guest
Dear Uttara, Let me share what little I have learnt. Dharma are 1st, 5th and 9th Artha are 2nd, 6th and 10th Kama are 3rd, 7th and 11th Moksh are 4th, 8th and 12th. 1st house is physical plane, 2nd house is mental plane and 3rd house is on spiritual plane and cycle continues Therefore Dharma 1st house is Dharma on Physical plane 5th house is Dharma on Mental plane 9th house is Dharma on Spiritual plane Artha 2nd house is Artha on Mental plane 6th house is Artha on Spiritual plane 10th house is Artha on Physical plane Kama 3rd house is Kama on spiritual plane 7th house is kama on physical plane 11th house is Kama on mental plane Moksh 4th house is moksh on physical plane 8th house is moksh on mental plane 12th house is moksh on spiritual plane. The house that we have defined in VA has some base in this. For example, we say 12th is most powerful moksh as it is in spiritual plane, same way 9th house is most powerful trine as its dharma on spiritual plane and 3rd house is kama at a spiritual plane. 4th house is moksh and here Moksh is right here in this life time i.e. ultimate enjoyment or bliss and that is at a Physical level and all kinds of fixed assets like home, car etc we see from 4th house. From 8th house is the next generation of it i.e. if 4th is knowledge then 8th house is research and enjoyment on a mental plane and the next generation of that or the next advancement of using 8th is 12th house is enjoyment at a spiritual level. 10th house we see for authority which is at a physical level so the authority that we hold on physical plane and 2nd is the next generation of that i.e. family or wealth and 6th is on the spiritual plane and that is the status or social status of the native. Next level of understanding this would be Karak theory. 8th house from any house is the Karak sthan. For example in Kalpurush chart, the karak for authority i.e 10th hosue is Sun as it is natural 5th lord and it is 8th from 10th house. So like that. Now for 1st house i.e. Dharma the Karak is Moksh Sthan. Similarly you can add that for Dharma on a physical plane the Karak for that is Moksh on a mental plane. So summarizing for all house For Dharma trikon, the Karak of Dharma is Moksh. For 1st house the karak is 8th, for 5th house the karak is 12th and for 9th house the karak is 4th house. Similarly for Moksh trikon the karak is Kama. i.e. for 4th house the karak is 11th house for 8th house the karak is 3rd house and for 12th house the karak is 7th house. Similarly for Artha trikon the karak is Dharma. i.e. for 2nd house the karak is 9th, for 6th house the karak is 1st and for 10th house the karak is 5th house. The next level of depth would be to go to Mool Karak level which is the Karak of Karak. So for say 7th house the karak is 2nd house which is the karak and the Mool karak or the Root Karak is the 9th house which is the karak of karak i.e. karak of 2nd house. So 7th house is Kama on physical plane and that is desire manifested at physical level so we denote wife from 7th house and the karak is family or 2nd house which is Artha sthan and the mool karak is 9th house which is Dharma sthan. Same way for say 10th house which is Artha the karak is Dharma and Mool karak is Moksh which is 12th house. Therefore for 10th house i.e. the artha on physical plane, the status is controlled by Karak which is 5th house which is Dharma on mental plane and the status of that is controlled or the mool karak is Moksh on spiritual plane. Then, you can then expand this theory by using the Kalpurush chart. 10th house is Capricorn (shani) and the karak is denoted by Sun (Leo) and the mool karak is Guru (pisces). For marriage, 7th house is for wife (Venus) and Karak is Taurus i.e. 2nd house (Venus) which denotes family and mool Karak is Guru (Sag) i.e 9th house so that is father / teacher / sanchit karm. In various texts you will see that status of Venus and Guru Bal is checked so that is status of Karak and condition of mool karak. Upchaya Theory for next level of depth. For Dharma sthan the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are Kama and Artha. 3rd is kam, 6th is arth, 10th is arth and 11th is kam. Then from Karak sthan i.e. 8th house 3rd is artha , 1st is dharma, 5th house is dharma and 6th is artha. Now Common from 1st and 8th are 6th and 10th house i.e. 2 artha sthan. Therfore these 2 houses are very special as they are upchaya or house of growth from phal and karak sthan. Same way for Arth sthan are triggered by kam sthan for kam sthan the triggers are moksh and for moksh the trigger is dharma. In standard texts its given that good results are to be experienced in the antra of trines i.e. 5th and 9th and that is because for 12th house which is moksh is triggered as both 5th and 9th are dharma and are upchaya for 12th and also the karak which is 7th house. Guest guest
Dear Uttara and Ash, I liked your explaination Ash, though admittedly I didn't read it in full. To understand this deeply remember that the Rashis are the original Bhavas. In other words Aries is the natural 1st House, and they (aries and the 1st house are " built " of the same sankhyic substances). I believe I picked this up from Hart de Fouw, but it has become such a deep part of my very outlook that I'm no longer clearly sure of the source. Most likely it is an understanding I have personally synthesized on my own at least to some degree: First one important observation: Fire creates dharma - purpose and direction Earth creates artha - accumulation and production Air creates Kama - sensation and lightheartedness Water creates Moksha - inner spiritual/emotional intuition Now notice you have 4 categories of houses - dharma/fire, earth/artha, air/kama and water/moksha. And you have 12 houses in total. 12 divided by 4 = 3. Therefore you have 3 distinct sections in the zodiac of 120º each; The demarkation of each is fenced by a gandanta. Each of which contains 3 complete repetitions of the Navamsha. THIS NEXT BIT IS REALLY IMPORTANT: Sec. 1: Starts and ends with Chara/Motion Sec. 2: Starts and ends with Sthira/Fixed Sec. 3: Starts and ends with Dvi / Dual Thus each section has it's own special flavor and intrinsic character. Sec 1: Rajo-guna - the mode of passion. Sec 2: Tamo-guna - the mode of darkness. Sec 3: Sattva-guna - the mode of clarity. Now to put it in magical phrases of meaning: The 1st four houses (and signs too), being passionate, are the ROOT signs - where the inspiration begins. The 2nd four houses/signs, being tamasic, are the DEVELOPMENT or " hard work " signs - where we get into the toil and practical efforts that arise to work on what arose from our root. And the 3rd four houses/signs, being sattik, are the FULFILLMENT signs/ houses - where the development of our roots bears fruit. Sec 1: ROOT 1 - root of purpose 2 - root of economic development 3 - root of desire 4 - root of emotion / enlightenment Sec 2: DEVELOPMENT 5 - development of purpose (which requires creativity and intelligence) 6 - development of economic development (requires hard daily work) 7 - development of desire (requires partnerships) 8 - development of emotion / enlightenment (requires mystic insight) Sec 3: FRUITION / FULFILLMENT 9 - Fruition of purpose 10 - Fruition of economic development 11 - Fruition of desire 12 - Fruition of emotion / enlightenment. ~ Vic DiCara www.vicdicara.com www.vedicastrologer.net On Nov 6, 2008, at 4:58 PM, Uttara wrote: > To All, > > If i could ask members here for help in understanding the following > I would be most appreciative. > > I understand that Dharma Artha Kama and Moksha are the four values > of living. Guest guest
Dear Ash, Many, Many, THANKS for this wonderful and complete explanation. All your efforts here are much appreciated. I was getting stuck on the words Trigger, Solution and Result. Which threw me off in understanding and how to go about getting from one to the other. And, what one would call it. More often than not it is the semantics that can be the stumbling block :-( This is a great study piece for me too - because I can learn from the Sanskrit words written here. And how they are used in sentences and thought. It all makes complete sense to me now - I am very happy! Guest guest
Hi Uttara, You asked me to further explain that the zodiac has three sections of 120º each... The entire zodiac is a 360º circle ( " 360 " because, in fact, it counts a solar year) - the zodiac tells us our karma via astrology - but it has to be divided into conceptual sections so that the meanings can be more easily understood. The largest of the sections occurs when you divide the zodiac into 3 equal parts - for creation (rajas), destruction (tamas), and maintenance (sattva). Divide 360 / 3 = 120. Thus each one of these three divisions is 120º in size. The borders between the divisions are at Zodiac 0º, 120º and 240º - each of which is a " gandanta " border. Dividing into three is not enough to make easy sense out of the karmic code of the zodiac. Therefore we have further divided it into 12 rashis / signs / constellations and concomitant houses. Each sign and house is 30º in size. This number is harmonic to 360 and 120 - because 12 slices of 30º fit perfectly in a 360º circle (12x30=360) and 4 slices of 30º fir perfectly in a 120º division of the circle. Thus each section of the zodiac contains 4 houses/signs, the qualities of which I explained previously. For further divination of the Zodiac, we divided into still smaller and smaller slices. The next natural division is the Lunar Zodiac - in which each division holds enough space for the moon to traverse in the course of one solar day. Thus unfortunately does not *perfectly* harmonize with the 360º circle - so we decided to approximate and as a result Abhijit nakshatra became something of a " leap year " amid the mansions of the moon. But in so doing we are able to harmonize the Zodiac fully, fixing each Nakshatra at 13º20' - which is a harmonic of 360, 120. In that 27 nakshatra divisions fit perfectly in the 360º zodiac (3.333x27=360), and 9 nakshatra divisions fit perfectly in each 120º major zone of the Zodiac (3.333x9=120). Then the Zodiac is divided into harmonic pieces that are almost all (except hora) smaller than the nakshatra. BY FAR the most important division is the Navamsha because it is mystically perfect due to mathematic harmony with the frequency waves of the universe itself. We divide each 30º sign/house into 9 pieces and thus come up with 108 (9x12) divisions of 3º20' each - an extremely perfect harmonic of the zodiac, being harmonious with 360º (the entire zodiac), 120º (each major section), 30º (each house/sign), and 13º20' (each lunar mansion, or " nakshatra " ). There are 4 navamsha in each nakshatra (3º20' x 4 = 13º20'). There are 9 navamsha in each sign/house (3º20' x 9 = 30º). There are 36 navamsha in each zone (3º20' x 36 = 120º). There are 108 navamsha in the entire zodiac (3º20' x 108º). (Also note that the multiplier of the navamsha is a Fibonacci sequence number. AND note that 36 navamsha slices in a zone represent a repition of the navamsha from aries to pisces 3 times - while there are also 3 zones. The navamsha harmonic is utterly perfect and flawless) ~ Vic DiCara www.vicdicara.com www.vedicastrologer.net On Nov 7, 2008, at 1:50 AM, Uttara wrote: > Hi Vic, > > This is great information the way you explained it. > > Can you further explain the following > > .....//Therefore you have 3 distinct sections in the zodiac of 120º > each; The demarkation of each is fenced by a gandanta. Guest guest
Dear Vic, This is just great. THANKS so much. I was stumbling on the word Gandanta and its borderline and then the repeat of Navamsha. Thanks for clarifying. It all falls into place now! It's really so simple and perfect as you say!
