Guest guest
I wish I had a shred of interest in politics. Then maybe I could stand reading the charts of politicians long enough to gain some astrological knowledge from their discussion. However, I have " uttama- dvesh " for all politicians. As I wrote once in a song: " Politics, that ain't gonna solve this. Sociologist, your plan is useless. " Anyway... sigh. I wish more people were interested in 2012 Winter Equinox - or implications of Rahu in the 2nd house. *long sign* (hahaha) In all seriousness: Bless all of you who *do* care. The world needs you. And since political orientations have been made known - lest the list get's branded with a political stamp allow me to state that I detest politics and prefer the self-governed anarchy of brahmanas. That said, when it does come to politics I am probably further to the " left " ( " liberal " ) than anyone else in this group. However we DO need not to keep our personal biases OUT of our readings, but to be AWARE of how they are influencing our reading and to adjust them accordingly with a judicious mind. Jai Sri Radhe. Guest guest
Dear Vic and All, Politics, debates, diplomacy, analysis, scrutiny etc., all fall under the jurisdiction of Mercury. Without doubt I have always had a keen interest in politics...more so now, of course, during dasa of exalted 9th lord Mercury (dispositor of lagna lord). Given the choice of watching an " Academy Award Movie " or a " Political Debate " I'll choose the debate every time. The upcoming debate between McCain and Obama is being broadcast live here and I have that marked on my colander so as not to miss it. I got extremely involved during the Australian elections some months ago, contributing to the blogs of the candidate I was supporting...he won BTW :-) You might care to look carefully at the planetary influences in your chart contributing to your lack of interest in politics (generally). I, for one, would be interested in your conclusion :-) PS: It's a small world we live in today and we're all affected, in some way, (for better or worse) by World politics. Guest guest
Dear Mrs. Wendy, You wrote: > You might care to look carefully at the planetary influences in your > chart contributing to your lack of interest in politics (generally). > I, > for one, would be interested in your conclusion :-) SURE! Let's talk about MEEEEEEEEEE! =) You assigned political importance to Mercury. I agree with the *sector* of politics that you assign him to: Debate & diplomacy - both of which are in fact QUITE interesting to me. The fact that you ascribe politics to Mercury alone shows your individual slant on politics is more intellectual than most. I consider the Sun and Mars to be more blatantly political. This fact shows that when I say " politics " I am talking less about debate and diplomacy and more about law, governance, and conquest. My Sun and Mars are together within 6 degrees (i think) in Cancer, which is my 7th house. Of course from here they influence the ascendant. The combustion of mars ruins the external significations and lordships of mars (siblings, competition and warfare, and his houses: emotions and home (4), and friendships and ease(11)), but bring brilliance to his inner meanings - internal energy and drive. My sun absorbs these qualities and amplifies them. Thus I have tremendous personal capacities in a leadership position and am very unsuited towards any servile role. I cannot remain in the background or in 2nd place. This frustrates me in sports and in male fighting - because I almost never win (due to mars combustion). If I sit down to hear a lecture on a topic I am familiar with, the teach will either be admonished by me or warmly congratulated. I cannot stand to sit in an audience and be forced to listen to someone with less understanding than me pontificate. Urg... just describing it makes my fists clench! Now... this is EXACTLY why I detest politics even though I love debate and diplomacy (although my diplomatic skills are minimal.. viz Ketu conjunct Mercury), and even though I am a natural born leader. It is not " even though " , it is " because " ! Because I am a natural born leader with Jupiter in the 10th House, I cannot stand to hear hollow speech after hollow speech of ineffectual people who will actually do next to NOTHING that they talk about - regardless of whatever they talk about - both because they are personally weakhearted and also because the system does not allow even the strong-hearted to prevail. Because I so love debate the lack of skill these people show in their televised debates repulses me. Also their transparency is disgusting. I actually liked Clinton quite a bit. She was more opaque than most. I have some respect for how Obama deals with people who protest him at his speeches. And on that basis I am hopeful for him. I always liked McCain as the " lesser of evils " of a party I consider hellish. I consider the Republican party hellish because Jupiter is in my 10th House. Therefore I favor the Democratic party because at least theoretically they support government welfare type programs over expenditure in military and war. Due to my combust mercury I viciously detest warfare and therefore the Republicans who so embrace it hold no sway in my allegiance. Now, I love myself an aweful lot too, and am very lenient... this can be seen from my double ascendant (Capricorn in both the natal chart and the navamsha), as well as, ironically, my lagnesh's debilitation in the 4th house. As well as the several aspects to my first house... So, my analysis of the planetary contributions towards my political attitudes is naturally one that is quite rosy and paints a heroic and saintly picture of me. I'm sure there are other ways to analyze which you are encouraged to point out, if you agree! Sun shows the administrative head (ruling power/government), and, without doubt, Mars supports leadership in all pursuits through force of character, courage and ambition - qualities necessary to succeed in the face of opposition. However, politics per se, consist (for the main part) in diplomacy, endless debates and compromises...unless of course we're governed by a dictatorship where autocracy replaces political democracy. Without diplomacy/compromise government would never be able to implement its policies...is this not so? ///Due to my combust mercury I viciously detest warfare and therefore the Republicans who so embrace it hold no sway in my allegiance./// A typo? I'm sure you meant to say 'combust Mars' :-) Certainly, I too look forward to a day when Wars are no longer necessary. However, the reality is that Wars are fought and Mars is the instigator...commander in chief! Arjuna too was repulsed by the thought of war...having no enthusiasm whatsoever to engage in the battle he was called to participate in. On the whole wars are usually fought as a last resort after lengthy negotiations have failed to bring a resolution to the conflict. I would see this as an indication of the strength of Mars over Mercury. I wish more people were interested in 2012 Winter Equinox - or implications of Rahu in the 2nd house. *long sigh* (hahaha)/// Regarding Rahu in 2nd indicating vegetarianism. We know that Rahu, influenced by conjunction, shows his effect through his dispositor. In your chart, 2nd lord, aspected by divine planet Jupiter (karaka for 2nd) who occupies 10th house (9th from 2nd). In the chart of Savithri's brother, Rahu, conjunct Saturn, is disposited by Mars who occupies 6th etc.. What we can say about Rahu (in any house) is that he emphasises the significations of that house (i.e. the choice in regards to partaking of food is compelling...whatever that choice might be)... (Mars, Sun) * Capitalism / Democracy in the farmers and traders who operate under the protection of the the monarchs (Mercury) * Communism in the workers who work under the protection of the farmers and traders (Saturn) Of course there are the outcastes and those who infact reinvent and improve society still further: Rahu who causes revolution and change from old to new will be very important in this ascending cycle of yugas. Ketu who cases impulsive spirituality. And the Moon - who is the benefic nurturing archetype of all, the ultimate role-model for all classes and people. Without diplomacy/compromis e > government would never be able to implement its policies...is this not > so? Great point! Sun and Mars are more " classically " political which by and large were monarchies, and Mercury is more representative of democracy and modern political procedures. > ///Due to my combust mercury I viciously detest warfare and > therefore the > Republicans who so embrace it hold no sway in my allegiance./ // > > A typo? I'm sure you meant to say 'combust Mars' :-) Debilitated Air at my heart (saturn in aries in the 4th house)... thus I ALWAYS ALWAYS think faster than I can act and am careless to be sure that what comes out into the physical world matches what transpired 25nanoseconds ago in my mental world! > Certainly, I too look forward to a day when Wars are no longer > necessary. > However, the reality is that Wars are fought and Mars is the > instigator.. .commander in chief! Arjuna too was repulsed by the > thought > of war...having no enthusiasm whatsoever to engage in the battle he > was > called to participate in. On the whole wars are usually fought as a > last > resort after lengthy negotiations have failed to bring a resolution to > the conflict. I would see this as an indication of the strength of > Mars > over Mercury. Since Mars is an eternal being, I doubt that day would ever come. One of my favorite bands, the Cro-Mags (A Hare Krishna Punk-Metal Band), sing: " world peace can't be done, and anarchy is a mess! " The thing in my chart is Jupiter at the top of the sky, in the 10th House, while Mars is combust and setting, already invisible, with the sun. Therefore I am more a socialist. Mercury is in the 8th conjunct Ketu, captialism is not interesting or to me, nor is trade and money- making. Therefore my personal political style is one that favors philosophers and brahmanas (jupiter), not Kshatriyas (mars) - or at leaset (and i say at least because I feel that they are ALL " Sheisters " as my grandma says, shady characters) I favor those who direct tax money towards public welfare over those who direct money towards military. However, in the Satya Yuga - towards which we are now striving in a new way - there will be FOUR styles of government co-operatively blended together: * Anarchy in the self-ruled philosophers who guide the rest of the society and life without material opulence. (Jupiter & Venus) * Monarchy in the administrators who mainly protect the people with military and who apportion taxes. Rambling thoughts, sorry!
