Guest guest
Jaya Jagannath Dear Yasomatinandana, Honestly, I have never questioned this, but is some kind of an unwritten rule known to all. For example, there are exactly 700 Verses in the Gita (7 is for Moksha Karaka Ketu). Vedic Numerology employs the decimal system which was first recorded by Arya Bhatta. It is possible that this existed since time immemorial. Number - 0 - Lagna 1 - Sun 2 - Moon 3 - Jupiter 4 - Rahu 5 - Mercury 6 - Venus 7 - Ketu 8 - Saturn 9 - Mars Rest later With Best Wishes Sanjay Rath - " Yasomatinandana das " <yasomati " Sanjay Rath " <srath Thursday, February 15, 2001 11:08 PM Numerology Dear Gurudev, Please accept my respectful obeisances. Jaya Jagannath! When we use the 108 number method in Prasna, then what is the system for corresponding the number we get as a N mod 9 to the planet? Sould we use the one you give in your COVA (where Mars is 9)? BTW is there any phylosophy behind this numerology or it is a philosophy by itself which we simply take from parampara as it is? your shishya Yasomatinandana das
Guest guest
Hello, It is interesting to note that both the Chaldeans and Hebrews use the same system of numerology as the Indians. The difference is that the number 4 and number 7 are not given any ownership by the 7 physical planets. They are instead described as other planets somehow being related to the Sun and the Moon, the Sun having more relation to 4, while the Moon to 7. From Cheiro: " There is evidence that those ancient students were conversant with the fact that there were two more distant planets than Saturn in our solar system, for they assigned beyond 'the seven creative planets' the orbits for two more heavenly bodies, and they described them as governing the thoughts on the mental side of nature and not the physical, and their description of them is in exact accordance with our present-day knowledge of the effect of the recently discovered planets Uranus and Neptune on human life " Rahu and Ketu are formed due to the Sun and Moon, and they do match many of the characteristics ascribed to Uranus and Neptune by modern neo-astrologers. I do not know from where Cheiro got this information. If it was a Chaldean text, then this shows that they had shared or borrowed knowledge of Rahu and Ketu from the Indians. Guest guest
Hello Sanjay, I would be grateful if you could share a little of your knowledge on this little discussed topic. Numerology is obviously extremely important, otherwise it would not appear in so many religious texts, in so many religions. But it is a subject that does not draw much interest, and as a result, there is not much information written on it. Is there any practical application for numerology in regards to the individual's horoscope? Do numbers that relate to the person cause any impact on their destiny or chart? According to some, when you are born on a numerical day relating to a specific planet, this planet's energies predominate in one's life. For example your birth number is 7, which is Ketu. Due to this influence, does Ketu have any special effect in your life? If so, how does this relate to the kundli? Do we look at the positioning of Ketu to see what kind of effect Ketu's energies will exert? In your case being the placement of Ketu in exaltation in the house of karma, will being a number 7 somehow bring the results of Ketu to the forefront, and cause you to perform spiritual deeds? with grateful thanks, Alex varahamihira, " Sanjay Rath " <srath@v...> wrote: > Jaya Jagannath > Dear Yasomatinandana, > Honestly, I have never questioned this, but is some kind of an unwritten > rule known to all. Guest guest
Dear Alex, What I dislike is superficial thought. If I said that my entire destiny can be foretold on the basis of the fact that I was born on wednesday, then there would be something very wrong with the paradigm I was choosing as so many other people would be born with this 7 August 1963 (Total 7, Individual 7) Wednesday. Vedic numerology goes deeper and takes other facts into account. Perhaps later.. Guest guest
Dear Alex, Agreed. If we start counting the days from the begining of Kali Yuga, then the day on which a person is born will have a specific number. Start from here. Guest guest
Hello Sanjay, Thank you for your response. I understand that you cannot make a prediction from just the birth date. That is like over here in North America where people think they can make predictions based on the Tropical Sun sign. But whereas the number changes on a daily basis, the Moon only does so in 2.5 days, yet the Moon position does have a definite say on many traits of the person. My question is not whether your entire destiny can be foretold with a number, but rather if the number has a general effect on one, similar in the sense of a Moon sign having a general effect. And if so, how does it work with the chart? For example someone coming under the influence of the number 9 Mars, some say would become Martian in character, but what would be the effect if Mars is destroyed in the chart? The deeper meaning of Vedic numerology and the other facts involved does interest me greatly, which is why I asked my questions. Perhaps sometime later. Guest guest
Dear Alex, Moon is in a sign, and in a nakshatra in about one day. It is the nakshatra of the Moon that is relevant. Sudy the Surya-Chandra -Rahu chakra given in Prasna marga. The numbers are important. But the day of reckoning them from is more important as it shows the start of the count. Can you tell me as to how many days after the start of Kali Yuga were you born? Guest guest
Dear Sanjay, I will have to get the Prasna Marga and take a look. I am embarrassed, although I know the Kali yuga began in 3102BC, I do not know the exact day when Krishna left the Earth. If you could reveal this information I would be grateful. Is 3102BC is reckoned according to solar years? I assume so, but find the whole calendar thing, with leap years, etc confusing. Should I take the average number of days per year? If so how do I figure out at what time the year of my birth began, such as half a day, quarter, or whatever? Please forgive my ignorance. Please recommend to me a weblink with calendar information if you can. Guest guest
Dear All: I hope you enjoy the following small article I wrote. Yours, Vic DiCara / Vraja Kishor http://www.vedicastrologer.net ~~~ The elaborate correlations between numerology and astrology are extensive and very amazing! First consider the houses... the most auspicious houses are 1, 5, and 9 - these are very special numbers. 1 and 5 are prime. 9 is the greatest number in a decimal system. Nine is divisible into 3rds and is the root of the occult penultimate number: 108. You have 12 signs in the zodiac, when you divide them into 9 sections you get 108 sections in the zodiac. In vedic astrology these sections are called the " Navamshas " and are almost as important as the original birth chart itself. The Vedic Zodiac identifies 27 specific stars ( " Nakshatras " ) of particular importance. 27 is 108 divided by four. Indeed each star has four " legs " = 108 stellar divisions in the Vedic Zodiac. 1 and 5 are really the prime numbers and the rest duplicate from there. This is why they are such important houses. 5 houses from the 5th is the 9th. This is why the 9th is of such importance. In music, western and vedic, the 1st is the " root " and the 5th note from the root is the most harmonious sound. Indeed everything we as living beings appreciate about harmony revolves around relationships between the number 1 and 5. The planets have numeric forms. 1 is the Sun and 5 is Jupiter. Let me outline them for you and then encourage your own further study... The Sun is 1 because it is the point of unity... the beginning, without which no other numbers could be counted or exist. As such the Sun is the very consciousness itself! The soul or " ego " . I am tempted to skip to 5 who is Jupiter the " supersoul " or " superego " but I wont! =) The Moon is 2 because it is duality... love and hate, like and dislike. Thus the moon is our emotions, which fluctuate on the basis of dualities like attraction and aversion to various objects and sensations. Mars is 3... a triangle - because this is the first number with a point, a direction. Thus Mars represents energy, and Mars also is sharp and harsh and has the ability to wound or pierce. Mercury is 4... a square - because this is the shape which is interchangeable with itself. Mercury is our ability to exchange goods and ideas between our self and our environment: communication and trade. Jupiter is 5... a pentagon or pentacle - because this shape is a combination of a square and a triangle. It is the ability to put our ideas and intelligence (square/mercury) into practical motion (triangle/mars): Thus jupiter is our morality and our " divine " or " higher " inner voice. Venus is 6... ah venus. A hexagon - so balanced, or a " star of david " another perfect balance between two forms of energy, male and female. Venus thus represents romance and beauty, harmony and symmetry, love and artistic expressions. Saturn is 7... when the shapes become so complex and the symmetry of 6 is destroyed. Biblically this is thought to represent God, and well the biblical concept of god is quite destructive isn't it? In 7 we find arcane wisdom and abandonment of outer beauty in the search for inner truth. Rahu, the north node, is 8... the octagon - so many points in so many directions - signifying wild extroversion and revolution. Ketu, the southern node, is 9... the most complex shape which disperses all energies into 9 directions. Thus ketu represents liberation and spiritual enlightenment, the final destination of all souls.
Guest guest
Dear Vic Great explanation if i may add something - 9 as you mention is a good number and it also represents god - its a holy number. There are 12 signs in the zodiac.....9*12 = 108 (another number you mentioned) ......now 108 = 1+0+8 = 9 Our brahmins and rishis of the past used to recite certain shlokas 109 times. They also carried malas with beads of 108. 9 is a mystical number that represents the 9 planets and the 9 portals in our body - it is a the number of god - and since god *god = god ....so does any multiple of 9. E.g 9* 2 = 18 = 1+8 = 9 9 * 7 = 63 = 6+3 = 9 try it with any multiple of 9 ! 9 * 6561 = 59049 = 5+ 9 + 0+ 4 + 9 = 27 = 2 + 7 = 9 Numerology and astrology go hand in hand. Guest guest
So...? What are you trying to say?? If you add any # in 9,you get teh same# 9+1=10:1 9+2=11 ;2 9+7=16:7 9=9=18 : 9 9+6561=6570: 9 Therefore how can you conclude Numerology & Astrology go hand in hand? Guest guest
Dear Mandar... Saurabh was talking about division - but with your extremely powerful Saturn Mars connection you have introduced another phenomenal insight! If you add a number to 9, the sum of the product is always the same as what you added to 9 in the first place... however for this to work on addition of digits over 9, you have to first sum the digits. For example 9+10 will equal 19, which sums to 10... seems correct? 9+15 = 24, which sums to... 6!!!!! INCORRECT, right? It should have summed to 15!... but Sum 15 itself... = 6!!! tada! So... " The sum of any number added to nine will be the same as the sum of the product of addition " > The hypothesis may be correct, but the justification bears no > corelation with the Hypothesis. I think the justification was in my original post, and Sorabh was just elaborating on it. I find it most interesting that neither Jupiter nor the Sun are the god-number. It is KETU who embodies the god-number 9! Perhaps we should rethink our attitudes about Jupiter vs/ Ketu!? Or - more accurately - about ABSOLUTE BENEFICS vs RELATIVE BENEFICS - or ABSOLUTE GOOD vs MATERIAL GOOD. BTW... I am adding yours and Sobrabh's contributions to the article I have on this topic on my site: http://www.vedicastrologer.net/answers/astrology_numerology.php THANKS! PS - I've also added my own on DIVISIONS of 9. Yours, Vic DiCara / Vraja Kishor http://www.vedicastrologer.net On Aug 16, 2008, at 1:09 PM, Mandar B wrote: > So...? What are you trying to say?? Guest guest
Dear Vic thank you for clarifying my points - I think you should look at all meanings and interpret properly what is said before you jump to any conclusion - after all astrology is about analysis and looking at things from all possible angles. Guest guest
Hi Vic & Sourabh, First & Foremost....I was trying to fathom, the link of a Mathematical Postulate (9times any Number, yields a Number whose Sum of Digits yield a 9) to Astrology.... I meant to ask How This Mathematical Postulate Proves Astrology Govens Numerology or Vice Versa. No offence was intended by me, If Mr Sorabh felt so, my apologies. He is a Senior in the field , a great Analyst and a fine human being..Really no offences intended, my quest of knowledge made me question Sorabhs reasoning.... Some more Interesting stuff:(I want both of you to check this) (a+b)^0 = 1 1 (a+b)^1 = a+b , the coefficients deoted by 1 1 (a+b)^2 = a^2+2ab+b^2 1 2 1 (Note 2 = basically sum of two 1's above) 121*11 = (a+b)^3 = a^3+3ab^2+3a^2b+b^3 1 3 3 1 (Note 3 = basically sum of 1+2 from the above row) 1 4 6 4 1 1 5 10 10 5 1 The coeffcients of the polynomial would follow 1 6 16 20 15 6 1 This is Pascals Triangle(You can google for the same) Analysis: 1. I do not see a sum totaling 9 in the above. 2. The first 4 rows (1, 1*11, 11*11, 121*11, 1331*11) are multiples of 11. therefater the corelation breaks the multiple of 11 logic, as 14641*11 is not 1 5 10 10 5 1 but equals 1 6 10 5 1 3. The sum of each row of the pacals Triangle is a series 1,2,4,8,16,32,...... 4. The difference in summation of digits is a# ending in zero (Row2-Row1=10, Row3-Row2=110, Row4-Row3= 1210, Row5-Row4=13310, Row6-Row5 = 15086410... (no where I can see a 9...am not sure if(a+b)^9 would yield it... Questions to both of you learned men: 1. Can you interpret something in the pascals Traingle? 2. Assuming it is not returning a 9, what does it convey? Warm wishes to both of you seniors, in the field. I seek knowledge...May be it is the Lords wish that I am in touch with you two learned men. Guest guest
Dear Mandar and Sorabh, What a nice resolution! You two gentlemen are truly " Sadhu " - so don't bother protesting me calling you as such. ;-) I think there are different types of astrologers, Sorabh Ji. And even the same astrologer will have different relations with different types of clients. Some are simply " analysts " some are " consultants " some are " guru. " Don't be shy about this, but understand it clearly... ....what is a " guru " anyway? A guru is a *conduit* - a " medium " a transmission point in a " parampara " wire which is connected through many such links ultimately to Param Adway Jnanam Tattva Sri Krishna Svam Rupa - the Absolute Truth. Through the astrologer Svayam Bhagavan should guide the astrologer's clients. Thus it is important for the " client " or sishya to seek blessings and to respect the jyotishi or astrologer, to create the correct relationship which allows the transmission of the electrical energy of knowledge from the source through the medium to the destination. Personally - I do not wish to be an " analyst. " I despise book-keeping and clerical work! But I would like very much if Sri Radhika Karuna Shakti (the " grace of god " ) would allow me to gain insight into someone's meta-biological " DNA " (a.k.a " horoscope " ) in such a way that Her divine blessings would enter the person's life through the reading that incidentally happens to come through me. Persons like yourselves, Mrs. Wendy, and other's even those you may have had negative run-ins with are all divine inspirations to me. We should be aware that an " upadhi " is just an " upadhi " - a name or title is just a name or a title. Who is guru in one situation is still a small child to his mother. And how sweet when we can be both Guru and Sishya to one another in different circumstances or at different times. I'm writing for a long time because I don't want to get back to work. =) But I really should! Anyway - great job, gentlemen, resolving that tension admirably. Mandar, I am looking forward to looking into your pascal's triangle carefully. I may ask my father about it as well. Guest guest
Sir, Very interesting deliberations made out of the topic numerology and it's intimacy about astrology bringing out how a jyotish and his subject(client?) build up relationships during the exploratory process. Vedic Mathematics has been accepted as the one of the platform on which jyotish as well as " sankhya sastra " have evolved.while interest in veidc mathematics gradually receeded, numerology has come to be accepted as a popular approach to delve into destiny/fate to use as a predictive tool. In present age practioners of jyotish(jyotishis) and the seekers/natives hardly have occasions/time to build up understandings properly between them. May be jyotish too is becoming gradually a upadhi with universities/Institutes willing to convert into a vocational subject and gearing up to train interested in Astrology.Upadhi,in this context,i mean as a source of livelyhood. This will also impact in the relationships between the jyotishis and the clients. Guru,if we can accept as a learned person who can take the position to propagate knowledge selflessly will always command respect for his views and attain the position of GURU DEVOBHYO NAMAH. vrkishnan --- On Sat, 8/16/08, Vic D <vicdicara wrote: Vic D <vicdicara Re: Re: Numerology jyotish-vidya Saturday, August 16, 2008, 8:46 PM Dear Mandar and Sorabh, What a nice resolution!
