Guest guest
Dear All, I would like to note that I have recently done charts for two people Virgo rising, retrograde Jupiter in the 4th House (Saggitarius). These people are the *opposite* of alcoholics. They are life-long " Straightedge " - no alcohol in the entire life. What should go without saying should never be left unsaid... A single indicator alone is *never* enough to make a final determination. Consider this: Retrograde Jupiter in the two charts I mentioned, is in his Moolontrikona. Therefore he is very strong and not prone to frivolity. Thus retrograde Jupiter always involves alcohol and intoxicants, but in this case, it involves and strong inclination NOT to indulge. Smt. Sheevani posted two other persons: one was retrograde Jupiter in Pisces. Pisces is a sign associated with intoxication *very* strongly. It is Jupiter's home, not his office (mool-tri), therefore pisces water/intoxication in the relaxed home and retrograde, creates very strong energy towards the use of alcohol. Her second example is one with retro Jupiter who has never touched alcohol. Some things to note, it is not in a sign associated with intoxication, but a sign associated with emotions. it is in an upachara house. Now I have a question for Bhaskar and others (since B. put forth the idea, if I'm not mistaken)... What is it about Jupiter that makes him being retrograde signify something about indulgence in alcohol? Would it not be better to say a general lack of morality? However that too has to be seen in context of the rest of the chart. To my mind, Rahu and Ketu are the biggest indicators of compulsive drug and alcohol abuse. Ketu conjunct with the moon, for example gives compulsive, secretive personalities that very easily fall prey to addictions. (don't forget the Chandra / Soma connection) So, I can see ® Jupiter as a weakness or tendancy to immorality - but for determining the mode in which that immorality manifests, we must consult signs, houses, and influences from neighboring planets.
