Guest guest
Dear Members, I'd like to initiate a discussion on basic topics. There are three basic components to Astrology: 1) The constellations of the Zodiac ( " 12 Signs " ) 2) The heavenly bodies which move through those constellations ( " 9 Planets " ) 3) The divisions of the sky which both the planets and the signs rotate through ( " 12 Houses " ) I personally find that the way people usually explain these basic components - in a list oriented fashion - is confusing and doesn't lend itself well to a deep understanding. So let's do it differently - let's define and describe the *building blocks* of these components, and explain the qualities these building blocks impart to the things they build. Let's start with the SIGNS. I will identify the basic building blocks of all the 12 Zodiac Signs and will leave out some components that are not particularly crucial and therefore may add more confusion than understanding. If I've left out some crucial ones, please let me know. The building blocks of the signs: 1) Element - earth / worker, water / thinker, fire / leader, or air / merchant 2) Quality - fixed / conservative / tamasic, changing / non-commital / passionate, or growing / sattvic 3) Polarity - positive / extroverted, negative / introverted Additionally each sign has a building block that is unique to it: " Svabhav " - intrinsic personality. This manifests in the shape of the constellation. In other words, after describing the building blocks of a sign, then describe the symbology of the shape of the constellation and you will come up with a solid understanding of what the sign indicates. The next stage of this conversation would be to begin with the Elemental Building blocks of the signs, and describe what qualities each element imparts. I will take up this discussion in a forthcoming email, and would be very grateful for input and comments from all of you. Thanks, Vic
