Guest guest
Dear Members, Although the policy of JV is clearly stated on the group's homepage, I feel it's necessary to elaborate on this by sharing with you the main reasons why I don't encourage requests for personal readings on the group, unless it's quite clear the querent is a student seeking clarification of a specific feature of their (or another) horoscope. There are many reasons for this but the most important ones are: 1) A horoscope consultation, similar to consulting a doctor, lawyer or priest, is a personal and private matter between the person and his advisor. Personal face-to-face interaction is extremely important, on many levels. Would any other professionals offer free service on a discussion group? Of course not! It would be demeaning to their profession and, in fact, their governing body would not allow it...astrology should be no less respected! 2) As things are today, respect for astrology (as well as astrologers) is greatly diminished by this trend that encourages jyotish students, of any level, to 'do a service' by offering free readings on these discussion groups. Sadly most groups encourage this, for two reasons. a) it swells the membership as many join in the hope of getting a 'free reading', and b) budding astrologers perpetuate this by their desire to 'make a name' for themselves and promote their off-list services...again, no other professional group would be permitted to do this! 3) It's no service at all if a budding jyotisha, without adequate experience, misinterprets the horoscope...advice, right or wrong, has a powerful influence on the querent and there is always the danger of self-fulfilling prophesy...believe me, this is a reality! How many times have we inexplicably remembered the words someone once said to us? Without doubt, what we say to people will remain with them for the rest of their lives, and, if our words have been harmful in any way (intentionally or unintentionally) we will certainly suffer the consequences...this is the indisputable law of karma! In my opinion, these discussion groups are a wonderful medium for students of astrology to research charts and increase their knowledge through healthy discussion/debate...they should not be a shop for free readings or a platform for those wishing to build their reputations (often at the expense of others). I have witnessed some appalling behaviour on several groups (of late) as members resort to all kinds of abuse in their effort to become 'top dog'. No other profession engages in such uncouth behaviour...we should seriously ask the question; Why?
