Guest guest
Dear Rui I like the way you have analysed the chart and explained the transit - it has really opened my eyes in the importance of transits from a different perspective. However i fail to see how venus acts as a malefic - i do not agree with the principle that just because the native is of a cancer ascendant that venus and mercury become malefics - they are both as you can see in good positions in the chart. If it really were true that for cancer lagna venus and mercury act as malefics then we would see more marital problems and problems with women would we not ? pls correct me if im wrong many thanks kind regards sorabh jyotish-vidya , rupamede <rupamede wrote: > > Dear Sorabh, > > Both transits and dashas are very important and the chart you have now given > is good example of that, but dashas and transits are just 2 factors of the > many you have to take into account. > > The nakshatra is another major factor and in this case when the native > started his Rahu/Sun period, Venus was transiting Mars (significator for > career, profession, honour, etc) in the Sun's nakshatra in Virgo. Guest guest
Dear Rui and Sorabh, Rui, it's so great to see you again on list! Your thoughts and writing are very clear and helpful for all of us in our studies and understanding. Rui and Sorabh, this topic has been really great and clarifying different aspects of Jyotish and how we might expect it to work out in specific charts. Thanks so much for your time in sharing this. Rui, is it too simplistic to ask for a list of lagnas and their specific functional malefic/benefic planets? Something such as you've written below regarding Venus being a malefic for Cancer. I have looked on line again recently, after doing this many other times as well, to get a really clear description of this via different lagnas. Is there a place you can recommend where the list has been given, or the rules by which to judge, by Parashara? While looking at these websites, I've seen different opinions on how this is judged and am not sure what is the EXACT view of this according to Parashara versus many on line places give Systems Approach. Confusion on this has led me to ignore this perhaps more than is wise. I mean, we know what are the obvious malefics - using Wilhelm's book he writes, " Saturn, Mars, the Sun, waning Moon, Rahu and ketu are malefics. Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and waxing Moon are benefics. Mercury, however, is a malefic if he joins a malefic. " This then combined with the temporal relationships in the specific chart, such as in your friend's chart, Sorabh, Mercury is neutral to Saturn due to placements, whereas the natural relationship of Mercury to Saturn is a friend. And Saturn is enemy to Mercury in this chart due to placements, whereas the natural relationship of Saturn to Mercury is neutral. Or more to your topic of Venus and Cancer: Moon being a natural enemy to Venus and now by placement in same house as Moon makes this Venus a great enemy to this Moon. (BTW, in this chart Venus is final depositor of all planets, making this planet especially important in this chart. So having a complete understanding which includes Parashara's view of functional malefics, etc.., perhaps even more essential.) Parashara's rules you are referring to however are along the lines of house ownership, correct? And added depth as well considering thoughts on benefics owning kendras etc. Thanks, best wishes, Patrice ____________________________ Rui wrote: ///According to Parashara and traditional Vedic Astrology, Venus is malefic for Cancer and in this instance Venus really is at its worst because it is debiliated in Virgo.///
Guest guest
Dear Patrice, Thank you for welcoming back on the list. I will try and contribute more especially during the weekends, that's when I have more spare time for studying charts. It was good that you raised the question because it made me look for it in several books. James Braha classifies Venus and Mercury as bad for Cancer ascendant, David Frawley says they are inauspicious. Functional malefics/benefics became a key structural term for the System's Approach astrologers but before that I think there have always been functional malefics and benefics. In fact, SA is not that new a system, it was actually the old sage Mantreshwara who laid down the rules for what would then be the SA in his book " Phala Deepika " many centuries ago - 16th century to be exact. Talk later and best wishes, Rui. On 26/11/2007, Patrice Curry <patricecurry wrote: > > Dear Rui and Sorabh, > > Rui, it's so great to see you again on list!
