Guest guest
First, let me revise my list of essential building blocks of the signs qualities: 1) Element a) fire b) earth c) air d) water 2) Stability a) moving b) stable c) changing 3) Gender a) male b) female Each Zodiac sign gets much of its qualities depending on which of these building blocks are a part of it. Now, there are other building blocks that are associated with these basic three. Lets discuss these. Associated with the Elemental Building Blocks are three other types of building blocks: (i) general lifestyle, (ii) physiological nature and (iii) direction. So now, we can list the elemental building blocks like so: 1) Element a) fire - Whenever the fire element is a building block in a sign, the general lifestyle will be one of leadership, the physiological nature will be acid ( " pitta " in Indian medical terms), and the direction will be eastern. b) earth - Whenever the earth element is a building block, the lifestyle will be work and service oriented, the physiological nature will be circulatory ( " Vatta " ), and the direction will be southern. c) air - Whenever the air element is a building block, the lifestyle will be intellectual, the physiological nature will be mixed ( " Tri- dosha " ), and the direction will be western. d) water - Whenever the water element is a building block, the lifestyle will be mercantile, the physiological nature will be tissue ( " kapha " ), and the direction will be northern. Similarly, there are two other types of building blocks associated with the Gender building block: (i) polarity, and (ii) dispoistion. We can thus re-list the gender building blocks like so: 3) Gender a) male - whenever the gender element is male there is also positive polarity (energy will flow outward, there will be extroversion and physicality, and strength given) there will also be a harmful, malefic disposition b) female - whenever the gender element is female there is also negative polarity (energy flows inward, there is introversion and emotionality, and strength is needed for support) there will also be a nurturing, benefic disposition. There are no additional building blocks associated with Stability, although some Astrologers have been heard suggesting a relationship of Movement to passion, Stability to to tamas, and Changability to sattva. Yet, I do not find this supported in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. > Vic D <vicdicara > May 29, 2008 11:48:26 AM PDT > Jyotish Vidya <jyotish-vidya > > Back to Basics: The Signs > > Dear Members, > > I'd like to initiate a discussion on basic topics. > > There are three basic components to Astrology: > > 1) The constellations of the Zodiac ( " 12 Signs " ) > 2) The heavenly bodies which move through those constellations ( " 9 > Planets " ) > 3) The divisions of the sky which both the planets and the signs > rotate through ( " 12 Houses " ) > > I personally find that the way people usually explain these basic > components - in a list oriented fashion - is confusing and doesn't > lend itself well to a deep understanding.
