Guest guest
Dear Balaji, As always, many thanks for the work you've put into this :-) The first reading I ever had (back in the '80's) was from a Sri Lanka Pundit (now deceased). It was he who gave me my very first jyotish lessons. He wrote several books, one of which I have in front of me now called " Numerological Fortune in Matrimony " . A small section of this book is devoted to Hora (auspicious hour) including an explanation of Rahu Kala. Although he shows Rahu Kala falling between 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, he does explain that the times are dependant upon local sunrise/sunset. Having grown extremely lazy (both mentally and physically) I was happy to find a site that will calculate Rahu Kala quickly and easily for the inert such as myself. Here is the link for those interested: http://www.agasthiar.org/panchang/rahu/rahu.htm Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ___ - " Balaji Narasimhan " <sherlockbalaji <jyotish-vidya > Tuesday, July 08, 2008 7:05 PM Computing Rahu Kaal I have uploaded a file called rahukaal.pdf with some info on calculating Rahu Kaal. Please let me have your feedback. ~~~~~~~~~ Balaji Narasimhan Author & Editor http://www.balaji.ind.in/ ~~~~~~~~~

Guest guest
Dear Babu, The period of time " Rahukalam " is said to be inauspicious one, for starting a work in day time. Mostly, Rahukalam is followed in South India. Rahukalam is applicable only in day time i.e. after sun rise. Sunday 4.30 PM to 6 PM Monday 7.30 AM to 9 AM Tuesday 3 PM to 4.30 PM Wednesday 12 Noon to 1.30 PM Thursday 1.30 PM to 3 PM Friday 10.30 AM to 12 Noon Saturday 9 AM to 10.30 AM The above time periods are standard one. Of course, the timings are to be followed/modified according to the local sun rise time. Regards, C.S. Guest guest
Dear Balaji, It would be good if you could extend your article to include the significance of Rahu Kala i.e., it should be avoided for any auspicious event as it can bring unfortunate results. You could also include the planets ruling every hour for each day...if time permits. And, if in agreement, I'd like to add the article to JyotishVidya.com. As an example for week day hours: *Sun's hour is good for consulting the doctor, to take the first medicine, deal with politicians, father etc.. *Moon's hour is good to deal with mother, needs of the masses, public meetings etc.. *Mars hour is good for sports, debates, outdoor games, shooting, fights etc.. *Mercury's hour is good for starting business, writings, correspondence, publishing, sending messages etc.. *Jupiter's hour is good for opening bank accounts, meeting with lawyers, judges, financiers, legislators, preacher, guru; for meditation, prayers, to conceive children etc.. ....and so forth Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com ___ - " Balaji Narasimhan " <sherlockbalaji <jyotish-vidya > Tuesday, July 08, 2008 7:05 PM Computing Rahu Kaal I have uploaded a file called rahukaal.pdf with some info on calculating Rahu Kaal. Guest guest
Dear Friends, Rahu Kalam certainly depends on the timings of sunrise and sun set and to to have a table in computation based on longitudes/lattitudes is certainly going to aid keen follower of this inauspicious time for taking important jobs. Being a South Indian under the guidance of my younger days I had to follow the timings of Rahu kalam. With change in palce of postings from one end to other end of country, some liberal approach in timing our day to day activities. Apart from this Rahu Kalam, there are also other in auspicious conveyed through Almancs. To mention them are:Varjayam and Durmuhurtam.Timings for these inauspicious ghadiyas are also cited in Alamancs. These terms very much indicate for avoidance and bad and in auspicious timings. These phenomenon help in fixing up muhurtas for beginning auspicious jobs and minimise the risk of failures. The efort made to provide for ready reckoner will go long way in observing the Rahu Kalam globally. vrkrishnan --- On Tue, 7/8/08, ravindramani <ravindramani wrote: ravindramani <ravindramani Re: Computing Rahu Kaal jyotish-vidya Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 11:49 AM Dear Babu, The period of time " Rahukalam " is said to be inauspicious one, for starting a work in day time. Guest guest
Dear Sh. Krishnan, As you are aware, Yemagantam, is yet another period of time, which is inauspicious for undertaking a new job or work. " Kuligai kalam " (in tamil) it is the period of time which is auspicious to do certain work. In the fast moving world, one cannot follow so scruplously all the injunctions. There is no harm in knowing them academically. Regards, C.S. Guest guest
Wendy ji, ///As always, many thanks for the work you've put into this :-)/// My pleasure! :-) ///It would be good if you could extend your article to include the significance of Rahu Kala/// This would be good too! But I have not been able to find too many authentic sources. There are some Tamil books at home. I sahll probably go thru them soon to determine if they contain anything. Unfortunately, I am only literate in English, so I will have to ask dad or mom to read out the books for me! :-) ~~~~~~~~~ Balaji Narasimhan Author & Editor http://www.balaji.ind.in/ ~~~~~~~~~
Guest guest
Sir, You are right in supplementing kuligai kalagam ie yamakantakam and also the objective of these inauspicious timings. In todays circumstances and in our preoccupations we tend to over look and tide over these sentimental aspects.yet when it comes to fixing up muhurtams these are taken into account for performing various religious rites and functions. These do's dont's prescribed in earlier times yet have validity to promote general welfare and interests. regards vrkrishnan --- On Wed, 7/9/08, ravindramani <ravindramani wrote: ravindramani <ravindramani Re: Computing Rahu Kaal jyotish-vidya Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 12:30 AM Dear Sh.
