Wendy ji,

As you have always pointed out, Jyotish transcends

religions, and maybe a look at Pitru Paksha from this

context might be interesting.

The Pitru Paksha is designed to honor one's ancestors.

Death is ruled by Sani, who also rules Vairagya.

Therefore, during this time, it is ideal to

concentrate on offering prayers for one's ancestors

and not think about oneself.

In my family, we also don't look at marriages during

Margazi (when Surya occupies the sign of Dhanur)

because this month again is aimed at prayer.

Krishna says in the Gita " I am Margazi among the

twelve months " (masanaam margaseersh oham) and this is

also one of the reasons why one concentrates on prayer

during this month.

Putting prayer and one's ancestors above oneself

teaches one Vairagya. Also, during this time, since

one doesn't look at marriage proposals and the like,

it also teaches one to wait patiently--and patience

too is another attribute of Sani!
