Guest guest
Hare Krishna Sorry I did not see your mail before! Please note that the reference to women being less intelligent is not just found in SP's own words or purports, but in the scriptures itself, where women are often grouped with Shudras and candalas - below are 2 quotes also from Srimad Bhagavatam, but please do your own research as I have no time to fix the sanskrit letters now or look for more quotes. Some of the quotes I have seen refer to socially (thus they need protection), some refer to intellectually (thus they cannot understand the great philosophy and Vedas but the Mahabharata was given to them). My general point is that in Kali Yuga it is futile to argue about " Vedic Culture " as we are hardly following any Vedic Culture in any form! The whole social, economic and spiritual system of " Vedic Culture " has collapsed even in India, and of course is absent in the rest af the world, so why argue about whether " Vedic Culture " allows women to be astrologers? Even the culture of astrologers has collapsed - before astrologers used to be great saintly seers, now many are just money-hunters. YS Ila dd Srimad Bhagavatam TEXT 24 TEXT SYNONYMS te—that; eva—certainly; vedäù—the book of knowledge; durmedhaiù—by the less intellectual; dhäryante—can assimilate; puruñaiù—by the man; yathä—as much as; evam—thus; cakära—edited; bhagavän—the powerful; vyäsaù—the great sage of Vyäsa; kåpaëa-vatsalaù—very kind to the ignorant mass. TRANSLATION Thus the great sage Vyäsadeva, who is very kind to the ignorant masses, edited the Vedas so they might be assimilated by less intellectual men. SB 1.4.25 TEXT 25 SYNONYMS stré—the woman class; çüdra—the laboring class; dvija-bandhünäm—of the friends of the twice-born; trayé—three; na—not; çruti-gocarä—for understanding; karma—in activities; çreyasi—in welfare; müòhänäm—of the fools; çreyaù—supreme benefit; evam—thus; bhavet—achieved; iha—by this; iti—thus thinking; bhäratam—the great Mahäbhärata; äkhyänam—historical facts; kåpayä—out of great mercy; muninä—by the muni; kåtam—is completed. TRANSLATION Out of compassion, the great sage thought it wise that this would enable men to achieve the ultimate goal of life. Thus he compiled the great historical narration called the Mahäbhärata for women, laborers and friends of the twice-born. Its better to understand what you are talking about when you quote from (SP's) books about women being " less intelligent " . Is it emotionally or rationally or intellectually or socially or sensibly? Did you bother to find out what Srila Prabhupada meant by that, or was it a statement he made because of his own cultural inhibitions? Request you to research a bit, if thats possible. Regards Radhika ====================================== It's Kali Yuga - Things are different - in previous ages men were allowed to have many wives (they were competent anough to maintain all of them), there was no divorse etc. etc. Women were protected, and of course there was no legal abortion either..... Many Vedic injunctions are not applicable in Kali Yuga! Women are also supposed to be less intelligent than men, but in Kali Yuga many weak, unintelligent men also take birth, and strong, powerful, intelligent women. Everything is Topsy-turvy in this age...... Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos.
