hello members,

today one building collapsed in mumbai. in borivalli.

7 floored " " Laxmi chaya Tower " " it was just 20 yrs old.

i being a civil engineer can say that it was definately engineering

defect. and the contractor's black profit he made by using low

quality material and the Engineer who designed the building. He

too .......

dont know how many died, i wish their soul rest in peace.

This is a very very very shocking news to hear that engineers and

contactors for their profit compromises with the material and lives

of the people.

Are the people buying their DEATH from the builders ????????

I apologize as this is not astrological post.

Regards,

Tarun

Dear Tarunji,

Yes, I got the news since I stay here in Bombay.

These people never care for the tenants living in

their buildings. Their concern is only how

to pockets the tenants money. This is a bad bad

world.

But on the other side, when all other factors

are clear, and yet the building collapses, do

you to think at times it may also be due to the

tenants, who wanting to look different then

their neighbours, when they buy a new flat, do

a lot of re-building, breakingwalls, expanding,

taking the balconies also in the living rooms

by removing the walls,at times touching

the beams too, without consulting a structural

Engineer, conseqently contributing to the

weakening of the foundation of the building.

Is this possible too ?

regards,

Bhaskar.

Dear Bhaskar ji,

As far as i studied this subject.

The expansions and balconies effect on the building if the building

are designed in a way that in any case the " Factor of Safety " is

taken higher side i.e. upto 3-4 times more.

and if walls are broken than the slab can develop cracks.

Mostly the buildings are in framed strcutures so all such things are

taken care of.

But foundation if strong then no building can collapse.and so

heaviest foundation are taken

Tarun
