in the book predictive astrology of the hindus, the author mentions

specifically that retrograde planets weaken the houses they own. so in the

case of my retrograde jupiter in the 7th house because it is retrograde it

weakens the 6th and 9th house. does anybody know this to be the case or is

it quite frankly the opposite effect?

this has been bothering me for some time.

Yes that true. Any planet which is weak also indicates the weakness of

the Houses it owns. But this is not the only yardstick to measure

the weakness of the houses. If Venus is sitting for instance in the

sign Pisces it would make Pisces strong, and mitigate to some extent

the weakness of the house caused by debilitated jupiter.Since

Venus here would become the Exalted Lord of the 4th and 11th House.

there can be many such combinations.

Hello Raja,

That is a long list of questions which your experience in doing jyotish will

bring answers to. For now however my experience is that retro planets do spoil

the house they own and this is quite noticeable during their Mahadasa in

particular, and in a minor way during their minor dasas.

I would think that Jupiter as ruler of 6th would not bring many enemies, but

that they would be easily avoided or overcome in your life. However as ruler of

ninth it would cause doubt in higher faith and problems in learning at higher

levels ie course may be interrupted, or there can be problems surrounding the

smooth running, or tutors may not be as forthcoming in support as you would

like.

As for Rahu in sixth, this would bring many obstacles to the fore, but they too

can be overcome but with effort from yourself. This can also bring problems with

doctors, but as Danu is ruling this house I suspect it brings arguments or

problems with tutors and the learned, so I am not going to enter into any

debates with you over this posting:-)

Rahu in six is good for overcoming obstacles, and enemies, though it also brings

them in the first place, but you are able to overcome them in the end also. I

suspect you also find many friends disappear due to disagreements or friends

turn enemies over a long period of time, which would be difficult. The rest of

the chart would give more information about this also, and Saturn too would have

to be considered as a karaka for this sixth house. This placement of Rahu in

sixth and Jupiter ruling and retro indicates litigations which may be drawn out

and troublesome.

This is just a brief analysis which would be further modified by looking at

other placement of planets and the karakas.

Sorry I don't have any time to spare to post on a regular basis so may not be

free to respond to any further mails on this issue at the moment.

best wishes

Dear M,

I would like to look at the Rahu/Jupiter antardasha in the context of what

you have said about Retrograde planets.

23 Feb 1969....16:02 hrs, Ludhiana, Punjab, India.

The native belongs to a very normal middle class background but in this

antardasha, he rose to join Indian Civil Service...acquiring very top

position in the exam and joining elite Civil Service in Oct 1992.

Your take that Retrograde planets spoil their own house is not borne out in

this case at least in Jupiter antardasha. His Jupiter Dasha has just

started...and I will keep you posted on any new development which Jupiter

may bring to the native.

Your arguement has merit..but in my view, retrogression delays things for

sure...but then the placement of lord form the houses it owns is the key

whether the planet will behave good or bad for the significations of the

houses it owns. In the case of this native, Jupiter retrograde is in 3rd

house...means 7th from Pisces and in 10th house from Sagi.both outstanding

positions...thats why may be he rose.(Cancer Lagna)

Anyone in the group having better understanding can enlighten. You can

respond whenever you are able to. I shall wait for your comments.

Reagrds,

Bipul

Retro Planets need not necessarily weaken the house they own. Usually the retro

planets denote inherent desire which was not fulfilled in the earlier birth.

For instance Guru retro the native might have liked to become a teacher or

religious head. You may examine the karakatwa of Guru. Perhaps it will show in

your present birth.

It is only one school of thought which is worth considering.

some members of the group are for some reason misunderstanding what that

means but it means what it means. the houses that are ruled by the planet

are weakened not strengthened. in the opposite scenario any planet that is

exalted the houses it owns are protected which in other words means that

they are fortified to do what they are suppose to do.

something has to happen to those houses for the planet that is retrograde.

the point of this inquiry is to see whether members believe from experience

to see weakening or strengthening of the houses.
