The latest example is the headline on page one of the Hindustan Times---which has a circulation of millions of copies---of January 15, 2009, " Stars in sync for cabinet reshuffle " . It says, " The onset of Uttarayana, an auspicious period acording to Hindu astrology, on Wednesday, may well set the stage for the changes Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been planning in his Council of Ministers. .....According to astrologer Ajay Bhambi, the good period began on Makar Samkranti on Wednesday.... " As you know, Uttarayana is just an English equivalent of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, which took place on December 21, 2008, and it has absolutely nothing to do with Lahiri (or Ramana or even Shakuntala-Devi) etc. Makar Sankranti, which the Hindu community is being made to celebrate. You must also be aware by now that even the Pauranic Makar Sankranti or Sidhantic Makar Sankranti is just another name of Uttarayana (Pl. see BVB6 in files section). We, therefore, definitely need to inform the entire Hindu community that as against the Vedic Uttarayana or Pauranic (and even sidhantic) Makar Sankranti, they are being compelled to celebrate a non-existent Makar Sankranti on a day which pleases Lahirwalas! It is, therefore, " Vedic astrologers " who need to be warned that they must not lead the entire Hindu community towards adharma in the name of " Vedic astrology " by making them celebrate all the muhrutas etc. on worng days! For your kind information, none of the " Vedic astrologers " including you, has been able to quote even a single mantra from any of the Veda or the Rik Jyotisham or Yajur Jyotisham which talks of Mesha, Vrisha etc. Rashis and Mangal, Shani etc. planets. Even the much later but pre-Surya Sidhanta works viz. Atharva Jyotisha or Atharva-Veda-Parishishta etc. do not talk of Mesha, Vrisha etc. rashis! As such, may I request you to please enlighten the members of this group as to how we can call such predictive gimmicks as are based on Mesha, Vrisha etc. rashis and Dreshkana etc. amshas and Kendra, Panphara, Apoklima etc. bhavas as " Vedic astrology " when there are no rashis in the Vedas and the Kendra etc. terms are certainly of Greek origin.
