BEST WISHES FOR UTTARAYANA-CUM-PONGAL-CUM-PAURANIC MAKAR SANKRANTI!

 

Sun was having maximum south declination at 12hrs. 3mts 44

seconds UT on Sunday, December21, 2008. It will start turning North from

that point. That is the Uttarayana, the turning point of sun after remaining

stationary for a billionth of a second!

That is known as Winter Solstice and it has been extolled in

all the shastras as Incarnation of Vishnu. That is the time of Makara

Ingress as per all the Puranas and hence the real Pongal.

There will be no other Makar Sankranti for one year. Hence

no Pongal either!
