Ghati and Vighati

Wish to add two cents from my side. Time division

followed, as per our ancient texts, was as follows:

1 day (earlier considered as sunrise to sunrise, now

normally taken as 24 hours)= 60 Ghati

1 Ghati = 60 Vighati

1 Vighati = 60 Lipta

1 Liptas = 60 Viliptas

1 Vilipta = 60 Pala

1 Pala = 60 Vipalas

This figure (60x60x60x60x60x60) gives a result of

46656000000 Vipalas per day.

Compare this with the current time division of 24 hrs

per day, each hour being equal to 60 minutes and each

minute being equal to 60 seconds gives a result of

86400 seconds only per day!!

Our sages were really great.

Best wishes,

Amitabh

Dear Amitabh The moderns have seconds, miliseconds, macroseconds, and nano-seconds, and have instruments to measure such divisions of seconds also, Amitabh Amitabh <amitabh20a wrote: Wish to add two cents from my side.
