I. PRACTICAL KP FORTUNA MOVEMENT

1.1. Calculations are as per KPAstro 2.5 and Sri Raichur's SW

(Raichur's results are shown in brackets). The results are more or

less the same except up to around 5 min difference in some points.

1.2. The same example chat as given before: Camilla Parker-Bowles,

17 July 1947, 07-10 GMT, London, UK,51N30, 00W10.

1.3. The findings are as follows. (Details are shown in the

Appendix).

1) It takes 18h-37m-55s as per KPAstro (18h-38m as per Raichur's )

for Fortuna to move from the first beginning of 11th (KP House) to

the first beginning of 12th. OR It is the time of duration staying

in 11th. (moving forward)

2) 11h-30m-15s (11h-34m) from the beginning of 12th to the beginning

of 11th. OR It is time of duration staying in 12h.(moving backward)

3) 10h-47m-25s (10h-42m) from the beginning of 11th to the beginning

of 12th. OR It is time of duration staying in 11th.(moving forward)

4) 32h-30m-02s (32h-33m) from the beginning of 12th to the beginning

of 1st. OR It is time of duration staying in 12h. (moving forward)

5) 43h-35m-32s (43h-35m) from the beginning of 1st to the beginning

of 2nd. OR It is time of duration staying in 1st.(moving forward)

II. SOME STATEMENTS

2.1. FORTUNA can never change in a day.

2.2. but it changes only in 2 + 1/4 days.

2.3. In the case quoted Pars Fortuna or simply Fortuna was in 12th

house from 15/07/1947 04:15AM to 18/07/1947 21:30PM.

2.4. Fortuna's placement changes when tithi changes, which is

generally 2 .25 days.

III. CONCLUSION

3.1 Something is wrong some where. Both reliable KP SWs or those

statements or my presentation??

Because Fortuna's placement in a KP house can change within 10h-42m

or 11h-34 or 18h-38m or 32h-33m or 43h-35m.

3.2. Fortuna movement may be more radical for charts with 4 blank

signs without having any cusp (eg. Tony Blair, Catherine Zeta-Jones,

Chairo) due to much more differentiation in distances of KP

(Placidus) houses. It doesn't matter for the computer SWs but may

be beyond one's imagination.

A final solution is open to your discussion and judgement.

Let us consider the method of finding lonitude of fortuna. Long of Fortuna is= long of ASC +(long of Moon-sun) In this formula Asc will change very fast. The tithi gnerally moves one tithi in 2 and 1/4 day. In the calculations made for Latitude of London, the distance btween two cusps is not equal. So when calculating the time taken for Fortuna to shift fro 11th to 12, we are considering, movement of ASC thru certain deg of Long. The dif between 12th cusp and asc will not be the same, so we cannot compare the two. The question raised, How much time it takes Fortuna to change the house is academical. This will vary on Latitude of the Place of Birth, and the House chosen. If you calculate for Zero Latitude, you will get houses of equal length, and you will then have a more realistic value of the

Sir,

Exactly what I have been trying to say uptil now.Since the Asc.moves fast the Fortuna house placement may also change with every change of Ascendant, thoughthe sign may not change until the total of plus/minusof degrees as per the Formula does not cross 30 degrees,but the House of Fortuna with regards to every individualKundli may change.The sign change happens when all/or two of the pointersviz.Sun,Moon and Asc. have covered more than 15 degreesto contribute more effectively to the resultant totalviz. Asc.+ Moon - Sun. Only if a person sits doing this manually with a paperand pen, calculating at least 3 charts within span of1 hour each of birth times on same day,wouldunderstand. Its actually very simple to understand.Not much technical brains or expertise is required.And there can be no rigid rules regarding the Fortuna.It can change by any changes in degrees of Ascendant,The Sun or The Moon.

Dear Mr Raichur, I could not understand your statement that "The Tithi generally moves one tithi in 2 and 1/4 day." Because, as per our Hindu calendar, the Tithi changes in about 24 hours. What you state is the period of movement of the Moon within a sign. Will you please explain? Thank you. Both SW are correct. May i share my little understanding on the subject?

Fortuna and paras Fortuna are two words in currency.

Fortuna is akin to Punya Saham( PS) that is why There is some misunderstanding. PS has different formula for day and night .Moon – Sun + AsC =Degree,Minutes Seconds This point is called Punya Saham for day whereas for Night Subtrahend and minutrahend are reversed, (so formula becomes Sun-Moon+ASC).Moreover there are two riders attached one is sekata and other is when and how applied.

Sekta means Adding 30 Degree if lagna is between minuend and subtrahend.

Second rider by uses is It is applied to Annual horoscopy.It also is worth mentioning that sanskrit commentry by Neelkanth lays down Saham can be used in Natal charts also and was used copiously by Astrologers in”1965 to1975” Era in north india.

Importance: I think in olden days when limited text book in astrology were avaiable promnant were Three .”KP readers”,.”Every day astrology” and “Text book of scientific astrology”.This was time when Ramans most book s were under writing except a few published.Being crusador HE confined to Hindu astrology only.

Some of the earlier Basic prograame invariably had paras fortuna calculation and was denoted by Earth symbol.

This was the result of Two text books that were very popular in this Era. One was Every day astrology, It described Both hindu and western system.The author Sh V. K. Ayer in fact wrote one complete chapter on Paras fortuna He propunded the theory to compare Thithi and its progression making it acceptable to hindu astrological reasoning. First part he took as Thithi and said lagna is added But He forgot that for night birth and sekta altered the concept to the core.

Secondly another text came in this Era , it was text book of scientific astrology .It was authored by Bhai staya narayan rao, the Raj jyotish of Jaipur.It also dealt both Hindu and Western astrology.Incidently it was a respected work but did not talk of fortuna .

Here were also now Books coming from Sh. K.S.Krishna murty. In search of truth HE not only made an effort to describe both western concepts and hindu concepts but also drawn heavily from concepts of Nakshtra division and conducted serious Research.

As`is well known He showed how to calculate Fortuna in ReaderVol I on page 98 but also included one complete chapter titled Fortuna in Reader vol II on page 341.He explained Fortuna as Parsfortuna.

In my study of Literatue published I did not come across any serious writing dealing with Fortuna, and it used to be a ornamental entity in some charts.

Prof KSK although gave full chapter but except for one research Paper published in Astrology and Athrishshta April june 1986 nothing substantial is seen.

In this research paper, unknown author has brought out that P.F. ( paras fortuna) replaces The Gulbargatheory in RP and KP.In three examples He demonstrated That concept of gulbarga theory is superceded by Pf in selecting fruitful RP.

I am not detailing beyond this introduction for I am not sure if these notes are relevent and will be useful to the current thread.

Raichur ji, Kanak ji, Tw ji and Friends,

I had few observations regarding the discussion going on Fortuna. It seems to me that the available information on Fortuna in KP System is not sufficient. Shri KSK included it in the book only for further research and (probably) he thought that as it is a fast moving point, hence it may be useful for future research. I have few reasons for saying so -

1. There is no example given by Shri KSK. This is contrary to Shri KSK's style.

2. The Fotuna chapter is the last chapter in the book, normally people who write book know that writing last chapter is the difficult part. (I am not sure what is the composition in 2 volume books?)

3. The formula that he has taken is different from the western or Arabic formula for Fortuna (or Pars Fortuna). The original accepted Arabic formula is different for day and night.

4. There is no example found anywhere in his books or magazines for the practical explanation.

Also, In my opinion, Saham is different from the Parts (also called Lots). Saham is a concept that is used solely in Annual Horoscopy (Tajik Varshaphal) where we also check whether the first point is between the other two points or not. Also you need to know the Varsha Pravesh time in order to calculate the Saham. In case of Parts, which is applicable in case of natal charts as well, these two things are not required.

So my point is, if we really want to use Fortuna, we should look back to the Arabic formula and try to learn and improve from there. In KP, we don't have sufficient information available to make use of it.
