Namaste, The longitude speed of planets in deg/day is given in JHora (basics tab, "Latitudes, speeds etc (co-ordinates) " in popup menu). If you divide 30 by that number, you can get how many days the planet will take to cover one sign (30 deg) at that speed. You can judge whether a planet is moving considerably slower than usual or not based on that. For example, take 2009 November 15, noon, South Grafton, Mass, USA. JHora gives the longitude speed of Jupiter as 0.105 deg/day. You can see that 30/0.105=286 days. At that speed, Jupiter takes 286 days, i.e.9.5 months, to cover a sign. That is close enough to his average speed. He is neither too fast nor too slow. Now, take 2009 October 15, noon, South Grafton, Mass, USA. JHora gives the longitude speed of Jupiter as 0.008 deg/day. You can see that 30/0.008=3750 days. At that speed, Jupiter takes 3750 days, i.e. more than 10 years, to cover a sign. That

is considerably slower than his average speed (which is one year per sign). I will consider adding this calculation to JHora for ease. Also, current (but not released yet) JHora's "mundane" tab has a button to find when a planet changes retrogression mode. By pressing that button, you can see that the last time Jupiter changed retrogression mode was on 2009 October 13 at 12:28:39 am (EDT). With October 15 being close to that transition date (like in my examples), you can be sure that speed is low. Planets are very slow around the time of change in retrogression status. Jhora gives the speed of planets but I find it difficult categorize them as stationary, slow or fast probably because I am not familiar with UOM and because normal speeds of different planets are different. Can you help? thanks

Namaste, Planets switching from direct motion to retrogression or from retrogression to direct motion become nearly stationary over a period of time during the transition. Such planets seem to become very powerful and seem to trigger events related to the natal planetary positions touched by them by conjunction or aspect. Stationary transits of Jupiter and Saturn seem to be particularly important. We will study the impact of such transits in this article. I would like to acknowledge that the importance of stationary planets in bringing about important results was mentioned to me once by Dr Manish Pandit, who is a yogi, astrologer and author. I took that basic idea and developed into simple principles that I tested on some examples. * * * Jupiter and Saturn are slow moving planets and important planets.

When a planet is stationary in transit, i.e. moving with a much smaller speed than usual, the planet is akin to a person who is calm and still. Just as a person who is calm and still can focus better and be more productive, a stationary planet can focus its energies better and give some important results. The natal positions touched by such a planet by conjunction or aspect are activated by the stationary transit.
