Guest guest
http://www.bena.com/sherpa1/bpa/Topics/Upagraha_Gulika_etc.htm#What% 20is%20Gulika? What is Gulika? Gulika is a " son of Saturn " - a theoretical satellite of Shani which has no mass. --- Gulika is beneficial in the upachaya houses - 3rd, 6th, and 11th. In karma bhava [10th] Gulika develops public religious behaviors, especially a visible devotion to tapasya (austerities). BPHS - Ch. 25 [Effects of Non-Luminous Planets], Shloka 62-73 --- 62. If Gulika is in the ascendant, the native will be afflicted by diseases, be lustful, sinful, crafty, wicked, and very miserable. 63. If Gulika is in the 2nd, the native will be unsightly in appearance, miserable, mean, given to vices, shameless, and penniless. 64. If Gulika is in the 3rd, the native will be charming in appearance, will head a village, be fond of virtuous men, and be honored by the king. 65. If Gulika is in the 4th, the native will be sickly, devoid of happiness, sinful and afflicted due to windy and bilious excesses. 66. If Gulika is in the 5th, the native will not be praiseworthy, be poor, short-lived, spiteful, mean, be a eunuch, be subdued by his wife and be a heterodox. 67. If Gulika is in the 6th, the native will be devoid of enemies, be strong-bodied, splendorous, liked by his wife, enthusiastic, very friendly and helpful in disposition. 68. If Gulika is in the 7th, the native will subdue to his spouse, be sinful, will go to others' females, be emaciated, devoid of friendship and will live on wife's (or a female's) wealth. 69. If Gulika is in the 8th, the native will be troubled by hunger, be miserable, cruel, very much short-tempered, very unkind, poor and bereft of good qualities. 70. If Gulika is in the 9th, the native will undergo many ordeals, by emaciated, will perform evil acts, be very unkind, sluggish, and be a tale-bearer. 71. If Gulika is in the 10th, the native will be endowed with sons, be happy, will enjoy many things, be fond of worshipping gods and fire, and will practice meditation and religion. 72. If Gulika is in the 11th, the native will enjoy women of class, be a leader of men, be helpful to his relatives, be short in stature, and be an emperor. 73. If Gulika is in the 12th, the native will indulge in base deeds, be sinful, defective-limbed, unfortunate, indolent, and will join mean people. --- B.V. Raman, A Catechism of Astrology p. 97 [4th edition, 1992], says: " Ancient writers have not attached much significance to Gulika. Reference to this is mostly to be found in Tamil books on astrology. Maandi or Gulika plays an important part in the determination of lagna (in doubtful cases), maraka planets and also in finding out the probable period of death. Gulika in different bhavas gives the following results: 1st Bhava - cruel, thief, devoid of modesty, voracious eater, deformed eye, irritable nature 2nd - quarrelsome, will be poor, not true to his word, and devoid of all wealth 3rd - ill-tempered, unsocial, ostentatious, devoid of brothers and sisters, 4th - unfortunate and poor 5th - fickle-minded, badly disposed 6th - brave, versed in Kshudra Mantras and a terror to his foes 7th- quarrelsome, loose morals, ungrateful 8th - weak and impaired eyes, 9th - unhappy on account of children and deserted by them 10th - heterodoxical tendencies having no faith in religion, miserly 11th - happiness, children, power, and plenty 12th - poor, will have high expenditure, dislikes sexual pleasures The above is culled out from an ancient astrological work. " -- B.V. Raman --- What is Maandi? Maandi is sometimes said to be the same as Gulika; but this is debated. The calculation methods for determining the positions of Mandi and of Gulika are different, so these items are likely not the same. Mandi is a " son of Saturn " - a theoretical satellite of Shani which has no mass. Mandi is a terrible malefic, but his results for the dusthana ari bhava and the upachaya labha bhava are generally quite good. When Mandi is yuti another graha, he damages that graha's results. It is said that if the lord of the bhava occupied by Mandi is in a kendra or trine from the lagna, Mandi will grant celebrity and wealth in the bhukti of that lord. http://www.sutradhari.com/gulika.htm http://www.vedicastro.com/significance_of_gulika.asp http://srath.com/lessons/beginner/vimsottari2.htm Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was born on the 7th May 1861 at 2:51' AM LMT at 22N40' Lat & 88E30' Long It would be very difficult to explain the death of Rabindranath Tagore in Jupiter Dasa Jupiter antardasa, especially when Jupiter is the lord of Lagna and is also exalted in the ninth from Arudha Lagna. However Gulika is in Visakha Nakshatra ruled by Jupiter and hence Jupiter shall give the results of Gulika in its initial period. This resulted in death http://www.astrodatabank.com/nm/Feedback.asp?ChartID=49212 & PgNum=2 Birth Name: Moore, Michael Birth 04/23/1954 (Apr 23, 1954) Birth Time: 12:45 (12:45 PM) EST (+5:00) Birth Place: Flint, MI Latitude / Longitude: 43 N 00 / 83 W 41 Rodden Rating / Source: AA / Quoted BC/BR Juliana 1/16/2005 In Vedic astrology there are other minor " planets " called upa-graha, and I looked up one of the main ones for MM's chart-Gulika, which is also called Maandi. Like Rahu and Ketu, it has no physical existence. Gulika is generally considered the most malefic entity in a chart. His is at 10 degrees Gemini. The scriptures say when Gulika is in 12th House, " the native will indulge in base deeds, be sinful, indolent and will join mean people. " When Gulika is conjunct Jupiter as in this case, it can indicate hypocritical tendencies. The dasha periods of the dispositor of Gulika (Mercury) may be dangerous. Fortunately he will probably not have the major dasha because it is very late in the life. A point 180º from Gulika is also considered as acutely malefic in the natal chart. This is better known as the Pramaana Gulika in Vedic astrology. In this case, Pramaana Gulika is both the Moon and Mars. The dispositor of Pramaana Gulika may also prove fatal during its dasha, which would be Jupiter's dasa starting at age 62. I would be wary during the Jupiter-Moon or Jupiter-Mars periods especially if Saturn (a maraka-killer for this chart as 7th lord) is aspecting the Moon-Mars configuration in the 6th house. , Raichur-a-r <raichurar wrote: > > Dear Ghopal > I am sorry, I could not answer your question re Rahu Kalam, or Moon and Ven having any sub planets. > Good luck > > > ghopal tkp <astrogopalji wrote: > Dear Mr. Raichur > Your note on gulikathi was enlightening the only KP followers with little bit of traditional details.Rahu kalam represented by whom? Guest guest
Dear Mr RaoI have personally not used Gulika in my charts, as it is a Traditional concept, but in the Vedic Astrology Group, and letters there in there are regular reference to this. In fact the charts, always show the position of Gulika. Generally it is supposed to be a malefic sub-planets spoiling matters of the house it occupies.I believe there is only a single reference to it in KP literaturegood luck.Yogesh Rao Lajmi <lyrastro1 wrote: Dear tw, Thanks for this info on gulika... Guest guest
Dear Raichurji and all, i like to share few comments about Gulika and mandi becoz basicly i learnd kerala astrology first. so in kerala astrology most of the people use mandi. Gulika and mandi is diffrent. Gulika: Where lagna raisng at the time of gulika time( like rahu kalam and emakandam) start that longitude called Gulika point. Gulika is one of the sub planet (sunbeam). in kerala astrologers are not using gulika. Mandi: Where lagna raisng at the time of gulika time( like rahu kalam and emakandam) End that longitude called Mandi point. Mandi is sub planet of saturn. Mandi having aspects to 7,12 mandi wil spoile the nature of house where depositing and aspecting. and mandi also spoile the character of the planet which conjection with the house.for example mandi conjection with sun that cause father ill or death. Asper my practice it wil give perfect result in horary. for muhurtha chart where mandi deposited that was the main question(problem) for the native. i hope in kp system also we can use mandi. as per kp rule 7th house CSL connected with 1,6,10 then marriage life wil be a problem. if mandi deposited in 7th house it wil aspect 1,6. so mandi cause the marriage life in problem. (it spoile the deposited house) i hope it wil work...! Swami Omkar Here’s a new way to find what you're looking for - Answers
Guest guest
Dear swami omkar, Could you illustrate any live example showing the effects of gulika or mandi ...? Personally,in my last so many years(over 40) of the practise of K.P. Astrology, and before that, traditional astrology(Raman's style),I have not noticed any noteworthy effects of either gulika or mandi or both...! With kind regards, L.Y.Rao. Guest guest
Dear swami omkar, Thanks, but don't you think that this too general...as it is with traditional astrology... I have not tried this concept in K.P., and whenever I get an opportunity,I shall certainly investigate this...but,as it has already been said Mandi is the son of Saturn...it will give the results of Sat but in less proportion... About gulika one could similarly... Saturn in VII is known to cause a delay and various problems depending upon it's significations and sub-lord...etc, in marriage/among partners/in business and alliances etc.. Thanks any way... Guest guest
Dear L Y Rao, I think we can use Mnadi with star and sub. becoz people are using lot of vedic astrology's general rules. like ucha and necha. becoz jupiter wil get debilation for one year in capricon. (sat 21/2 yrs in aries) we are taking this geral thing...but mandi wil not in same sign with in 24hrs(it wil transite aother sign with in 12hrs). i am in the prosses of checking mandi and other sub planets too(like duma ,indra danush ect) i hope...one day it wil get working...! swami omkarYogesh Rao Lajmi <lyrastro1 wrote: Dear swami omkar, Thanks, but don't you think that this too general...as it is with traditional astrology... Guest guest
Dear Swami Omkar,I have also heard the Kerala Astrologers say that if the Mandi is located between the Asc and Sun in the chart, then it is moudyam, i.e., in effective. Please throw more light on this. With respects to all KP astrologers.
