I think I'll give this a try using the new skills that I've aquired from

Barbara's site. One precious answer I finally got was whether the planets

affect the signs or if the signs affect the planets. Modern tropical

astrologers of course think it in the latter way out: Sun in Libra becomes a

" Libran Sun " , Moon in Libra becomes a " Libran Moon " etc. The simple formula

is that we have a sign that has certain traits, and the planet in that sign

gets " signalized " [if I read enough of posts from D*S, my English gets

darkstarilized but fortunately not darksterilized], it gets a certain mode

of action dictated by that sign and its traits.

 

But I've seen hints in the traditional texts that it used to be the other

way out: it's not the sign that affects planet, but the planet affects the

sign. With whole sign houses that gets perfectly natural, because sign =

house. Barbara P.L. makes in entirely clear that it's the planet that affect

(or afflicts) the house - and it's the occupying planet that dictates its

agenda to the house it's in, and the same applies to the house rulers. Like

Barbara writes, if you have the Asc ruler in the 7th house, you tend to mold

the relationships according to your own agendas; if you have the 7th ruler

on your Asc, the relationships mold you. If you have Saturn in your 1st

house it doesn't need to mean that you're a Saturnine person yourself -

first and foremost it means that a Saturnine thing afflicts your body and

personality. What that thing is depends on the houses Saturn rules.

 

Therese, you say that astrology has not become your profession because you

dislike mixing money and astrology, and you're quite anti-social, preferring

to be by yourself. I think both of these traits stem from the Sun in your

11th house of gains and networks. The Sun is not energizing the area like a

tropical astrologer would say, no - because it's debilitated, it kind of

destroys it. Sun rules your 9th house of astrology and divination, also

connection to God, and Sun is by nature a very lofty and sharply spiritual,

idealistic planet. So your Sun is in the way of material gains and social

networking which can of course be a good thing also, depending on your

personal value system. Also Sun destroys Libra, normally a light and social

sign ruled by Venus and materialistic, practical Saturn being its exaltation

ruler.

 

The mistake that tropical astrologers do is to observe the traits stemming

from this combination (Sun destroying Libra: Libran openess turning to

introversion, light sociability turning to intense depth, etc.), and to

rationalize wrongly that those traits belong to the certain part of the

zodiac they call Scorpio, and all planets occupying that region become

" Scorpio-like " . In fact if we have a dignified planet like Venus in sidereal

Libra it enchantes the sign and house it's in, and the end result is

something completely different than with Sun (or possibly Mars if we

consider also detriments) in Libra.

 

You also mentioned that you've been blessed with a comfortable life due to

your husband's income. I would say this is because your 11th ruler Venus

(signifying income) is in Virgo closely sextiled by your 7th ruler Mercury.

Venus is debilitated by itself (=weak income), but Mercury receives it in

its domicile committing its own nature, virtue and disposition to it.

Additionally Venus is located in the 11th house from the whole sign house

position of Mercury. Mercury receives Venus (your income) into the 11th

house of its own income when counted from its own position, and gives its

income to Venus. I think symbolism fits like a glove. Your 11th house is not

much blessed as such (afflicted by a debilitated planet, ruled by a

debilitated planet), but Mercury saves it.

 

I'm sorry, I know you don't like your chart discussed on the lists, but I

couldn't resist, it made such a good example ( . And about mixing

different systems: the greatest golden eras of astrology have been when

several influences have combined like for example with medieval Arabs. It's

like cultivating plants: if you want better plants you mix two or more types

of them, trying to get best traits from everyone. Breeding dogs goes the

other way out, cultivating certain traits to extremes you have to make them

procreate with their close relatives, and the end result is sick and crazy

dogs suffering from all kinds of ailments, physical and psychological. We

don't want our astrology to become like that (I hope).
