Guest guest
Since politicians’ charts are the current focus, it would be of interest to know why 12th house planets are commonly seen in these charts. If we look at the cook books on Vedic astrology, the 12H is Vyaya bhava or house of moksha/enlightenment. The significations include loss, liberation, confinement, sleep, spiritual journeys, foreign residence and travel. Why then do so many top politicians have planets in the 12H or near the 12th Cusp? (especially Sun). Here are some possible reasons— 1. Planets close to and above the horizon are easily seen. There is no stretching the neck to look higher towards the MC. The leaders are easily visible! If we examine the charts of McCain(Virgo asc.), H. Clinton(Libra Asc) and Obama(the newly found Capricorn asc) for starters, they have planets above and reasonably close to the horizon. 2.The leaders and top politicians have the final say on any foreign policy and they travel to foreign countries. This fits with significations of 12 H and is probably the main reason. 3. A leader has to detach from the personal ego(to some extent) to better serve the needs of the people. (Sun in 12H) 4. Planets in 12H aspect 6H of service. A leader must serve the needs of the people primarily. 5. Leaders/Politicians make decisions behind the scenes, usually with close advisors. They then announce their decisions when they are clearly visible. This combines the confinement aspect of the 12H with the fact that these people need to be noticed. Hi Ron, First I've been thinking for a long time that the 12th house doesn't really have to do with moksha unless planets there give us the opportunity to balance past karmic debts and thus 'free' ourselves from those particular vices and attachments. In the 70s and 80s there was an astrologers' magazine called THE MERCURY HOUR. Edith Custer was the editor, and the magazine was simply conversations amoung astrologers, a function that the internet serves today. For a few months there was a very interesting column by Phyllis Givens who channeled a being called 'Hermetros.' Now I'm not big on channeled information, but some very interesting concepts were published before this column closed down due to the scorn of 'scientific' astrologers. Here's what Hermetros says about the 12th house: ----------- Quote: Question: Can someone explain to me why 12th house planets cause so much grief? It seems to me that any planet just risen should be in its glory. I don't understand! Hermetros Answer: It is most difficult for man to undersatnd the fucntion of 12th house planets. Most planets in the 12th house are karmic carryovers (not signs), lessons that need more learning that were not understood before, and that's why they cause grief now. (MH, October 1978, p. 12) End quote. ----------- [Ron wrote:] >Here are some possible reasons— >2.The leaders and top politicians have the final say on any foreign >policy and they travel to foreign countries. A leader must serve the needs of >the people primarily. So a 12th house Sun can be a challenge to let the Soul (Vedic Sun) have free expression at the cost of the ego (Vedic Moon). Thus the Sun in the 12th may be asking us to sacrifice (as...Bettina or Sari...said in another post) our personal interests for a public service role. >[Ron:] 5. Leaders/Politicians make decisions behind the scenes, usually with >close advisors. This I'm not sure of because the concept of 'behind the scenes' contradicts the public roles of those with 12th house planets. Any connotation of secrecy connected to the 12th house wasn't part of early astrology. From Houlding on the 12th: ------ Quote: Manilius: Temple of ill-omen, misery, bane and toil. Hostile to future activity... Others (classical): Bad luck, self-undoing, slaves, enmity, danger, infirmity, death, foreign country. Lilly: Secret enemies, witches, sorrow, self-unding (etc.) Modern: Seclusion, service to others, charity. The unconscious, self-sacrifice, escapism, mysticism. End quote. (The Houses: Temples of the Sky, p. 54) ------ So it would seem that the more metaphysical and psychological meanings of the 12th house are modern, and Houlding spends some time discussing why these meanings don't make a lot of sense in connection to the 12th. In ancient times it was considered unfortunate to spend time in foreign countries, perhaps because so many husbands and fathers were lost in foreign wars.
