REPLY: If we refer to Gleadow's " The Origin of the Zodiac " and the chapter " Babalyonian Myths and Omens " (page 152 in my book) we find a reference a few pages later (page 158) that the zodiac had not yet come into use. Instead a four quadrant cycle was used to note where the Sun was located -- a system called the Three Ways of Enlil. This preceded the (Sidereal) Zodiac. Later, Gleadow makes reference to twelve months and their names, suggesting (at that point in his book) that these may have been taken and applied to corresponding times when the Sun moved through the sky and led to zodiac sign/constellation naming practices -- I take it that this may be part of the process that led to the later Tropical Zodiac being created. In any case, it will take more than this paragraph to determine to our satisfaction when the zodiac came into being and when rulerships and planet-links were assigned by various groups. But, for now, I stand by my statement that planets did not have sign-associations way back then (prior to 700 or 1000 BC). Dave

Dave ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dave, Oh, if you're talking dates that far back, then I agree with you. As Robert Schmidt has stated several times, astrology as we know it today--12 signs, planetary domiciles and exaltations, aspects, lots, etc.--the system suddenly appeared out of the blue with no recorded development through previous centuries. Intriguing to say the least. I've been away all day, and am tired, but later will check the dates for the Mesopotamian trigons and exaltations (secret places for planets). Can't remember just now how far back scholars have dated those. Therese
