Guest guest
Hi Felicia, Which Solar Return you were looking? Tropical, sidereal, calculated on your birth place or the place you're living? I'm looking at your sidereal Solar Return calculated in Saigon, and it doesn't look that bad. There's a full Moon that makes a soft aspect to your MC/IC axis, that cannot be very unfortunate. I'm using Shripati houses now (perhaps more about that in another post), or to be more accurate, Alcabitius cusps (they are almost the same than Porphyry, Porphyry must be familiar to you from evolutionary astrology), but so that the house spreads equally around the cusp, and the cusp is in the middle of the house, not in the beginning. In my recent studies with AstroDatabank I've found that these houses work actually even better than the " Vehlow " or Asc in 1st houses that have been discussed here in the last few days. So, with Shripati the Solar Return Sun/Moon opposition happens on the 2nd/8th axis, it may have something to do with money and resources, both yours (the 2nd house) and others' (the 8th house). And then we have the MC/IC axis which deals with your career (and future) and your home (and backround); resources and work combine and they might be some new opportunities regarding that. This is emphasized because Rahu is in the 1st house in the SR chart - new resources, new opportunities in the material life, new opportunities for success. My way of looking at the Solar Returns is that I put the SR chart inside and the natal chart outside. Your natal Jupiter is on the 3rd cusp of the SR chart - optimistic, light, spiritual and honest communication. Natal Jupiter makes a soft aspect to the Rahu/Ketu axis on the SR chart, so it might have something to do with the new material opportunities that Rahu promises. The 2nd cusp is quite emphasized overall: SR Venus and Mercury are still close enough to be calculated in the 2nd house, SR Sun is in the 2nd house, and you natal Mars, Sun and Mercury are in the 2nd house of the SR chart. The only real malefic here is your natal Mars, but it's weakened because it's combust, that is, being checked out by the Sun (your conscience, soul, superego), so there's no really malefic influences regarding your 2nd cusp. I would say that for your resources and money this year will be in general quite positive. The Solar Return MC ruler Mars is in the 5th house, that would mean that work has this year something to do with creativity, gambling and/or children. Your natal Rahu/Moon conjunction is on that Mars, that might also point to having fun. In my opinion the only afflicted area in this SR chart is the 7th house of open enemies and relationships. There's Saturn/Ketu conjunction there, and the ruler of the 7th, the Moon, is in the 8th house. What's interesting is that all the aspects that Saturn makes to the seven traditional planets are separating, so they belong to the past. Mercury and Venus are separating in opposition from Saturn, and Mars is separating in sextile - those separating aspects might point to your ex-husband. Maybe there's some unresolved things regarding money, children, etc. and you have to deal with them. But it would be much worse if those aspects were applying, then that would mean that there would be some new difficulties coming around the corner! But that's not the case here. Those difficulties belong to the past and what happens now is only aftermath. So all in all I would say that this SR chart is not nearly as bad as the one of the last year. In another post you were asking about translation and collecton of light etc. Those have to do with aspects and the speeds of planets. It's important to notice if an aspect is an applying (the faster planet is applying the slower planet and the aspect will perfect in the future) or separating (the aspect has already perfected and the faster planet is going away in aspect from the slower planet). If I was doing reincarnational astrology (I'm not sure if I believe in reincarnation), I would look at the separaing aspects as indicators of something that has happened in the past, possibly in past lives. Separating aspects represent something that you've learned already, things that are natural to you. Applying aspects represent something that will happen and that you have to learn. The faster, applying planet is eager to have a contact with the slower, applied planet. The separating planet is not interested anymore, it has got what it wanted. To see what planet is actually applying, what is separating, which is the faster one, which is slower, you have to know how fast the planets have moved in the day the chart is calculated for. If Mercury for example has just stopped retrogading it can be slower than Saturn! Then, if those two planets are in aspect, it may actually be Saturn that's applying Mercury. Translating light means that we have three planets and the fastest of them (usually the Moon) is separating from one planet and applying the other in aspect. Thus it's translating the light of the first planet to the second planet. Note that all the traditional aspects (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) count here, not only conjunctions. Collection of light means that we have again three planets and the slowest of them is in the middle. One planet is separating from it in aspect, another is applying. The slowest planet in the middle has collected the light of the separating planet and stores it for the applying planet. Cutting of light means that there's an applying aspect between two planets, but before the faster planet reaches the slower one (in aspect), it has to make an aspect to a planet that slower than both of them. It bumps into the slowest planet and in the meantime the applied planet goes away. Here's an example chart about that kind of situation, this is a chart of a Finnish celebrity Linda Lampenius, a violinist: 26th February 1970 at 10.30 AM -2.00 Helsinki, Finland. The Moon is applying in trine to the Sun, but before it reaches Sun, it has to make a conjunction to Jupiter and an opposition to Saturn. The Moon/Sun trine doesn't perfect, in practice it doesn't exist. Jupiter and Saturn prevent it from happening. Best, Sari
Guest guest
Hi Sari, Thank you so much for the thorough ananlysis and also the lesson on translating, cutting, and collecting of light! For your question about the Solar Return, I always use to current location, as I have seen from the tropical side how the current location makes a big difference in showing the picture for the year. I have even seen the current location to be of great importance in lunar return, especially if someone was to travel a great distance from their normal location. So, for mine, I use Dublin, California for 2008. I also need to compare my house system with yours. I use the Sidereal Equal houses, but not sure if that's the best? The Sidereal Equal house does put the Sun-Moon opposition in the 3rd-9th house for my current location. However, if I look at the birth location, it would follow the 2-8th houses as you said. Looking at the return from the birth city perspective as you did, there seem to be an emphasis on new, happy news, changes related to relationship and material security. There is just that Saturn-Saturn opposition to ponder about...and also, the n.Pluto-Unarus in 7th sr house opposing sr Mercury, Venus. So, it does promise some exciting changes in relationships to others as Therese mentions in her analysis. I think you are right on about the residual karmic debt regarding my ex-husband. We in in the final phases to sort out all the joint debt, which is not a pleasant thing but hopefully will be resolved soon... Thanks again, Sari, for taking the time to teach and share, and for helping me see the " light " in my chart for the new birth year.
