Do Sidereal sun sign threshold dates depend on the year? (Jonathan)

Hi Jonathan and others,

one of the most used sites for calculating the planetary positions is

Astrodienst http://astro.com . You can calculate also sidereal charts there.

Go to Free Horoscopes --> Extended Chart Selection. After you've put the

birth data in, there's a header " Options " and under that " Zodiac " . Choose

either " Warning: Fagan/Bradley geocentric (sidereal) or " Warning:

Hindu/Lahiri geocentric (sidereal) " . The difference is about one degree

(that " warning " part is really unecessary there). Now you'll get a full

drawn horoscope with all the planets there. The Sun is the circle with a

smaller circle inside, and then you only have to learn the sign symbols.

You'll also see the positions by text in the box under the chart wheel, the

Sun is there first. This is a lot better and easier option than to try to

obtain old ephemerises.

Of course the Sun alone doesn't tell everything about someone's personality,

but it's always a good and easy general start (and it's often quite

visible!). I personally see the Ascending sign (the sign and degree on the

left of the chart, marked with " AC " ) as the " basic " sign of a person and

that's a traditional way to look at it, both in West and East. One way to

look at it is that the Ascendant and the Moon represent one's body, and the

planetary rulers of the Ascending sign and the Moon sign represent one's

soul (because as the rulers rule a sign, so the soul rules the body).

Hope this helps!

Best, Sari

I just looked at Astro.com. It says that the sun is in Saggitarius! I thought it

is still in Scorpio.

Actually after I did a little looking-up that site seems to be based on the

Tropical calendar. I am interested in Sidereal because I believe it is more

accurate. Does that site have an option for Sidereal? I tried but could not find

Sidereal in that site.

Hi Jon,

I gave you instructions of how you can find the sidereal positions in

Astro.com. I'll put it here again:

You can calculate also sidereal charts there. Go to Free Horoscopes -->

Extended Chart Selection. After you've put the birth data in, there's a

header " Options " and under that " Zodiac " . Choose either " Warning:

Fagan/Bradley geocentric (sidereal) " or " Warning: Hindu/Lahiri geocentric

(sidereal) " . The difference between these is about one degree (that

" warning " part is really unecessary). Now you'll get a full drawn horoscope

with all the planets in their sidereal positions.

Jon,

Will you please go and do some of these things as you've already

received more help than you deserve. Another day or two of this and you

can be be accused of baiting.

If you are really on the up and up... go to the Bodie Tree on Melrose.

There's a whole wall of astrology books. For fast results you could

learn tropical first and add sidereal later. i.e., if your Mercury is

capable.

Under the Moon-Mercury inconjunction of the moment.

And, yes, some Mars....

I'm really confused now. I've got at least 3 different Sidereal sources saying

that Sagittarius begins on December 15 or 16 but on the home page of astro.com

it says that the current sun is in Sagittarius (25-Nov-2007) which is Tropical

isn't it? I'm sorry to be so blunt but it's frustrating for me because I'm

trying to get accurate information but I'm really getting a lot of conflicting

information. the sources that I often use are:

www.mybirthchart.com/default.aspx,

www.spiritualrealist.com/ASTROLOGY/Astrology.asp,

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_zodiac

All three of those websites claim to be using sidereal astrology but Astro.com

says that the sun is already in Sagittarius but it's not even December 15 yet.

Is there something that I have overlooked or is Astro.com making the mistake?

sincerely,

Jon

Jon,

did you go the Extended Chart Selection page on Astro.com as I instructed

you? But anyway, I see that you've found easier sites for sidereal charts,

that's fine. I didn't know this site before, so thanks for the hint

http://www.mybirthchart.com/freesiderealbirthchart.aspx

Now I know where to guide people next time when someone asks where to find a

sidereal chart.
