Guest guest
Hi Friends, I'm taking two weeks off to photograph Southern California. Before I switch gears I want to give you a little astrology program I did last year just after they " demoted " Pluto as a planet. Pluto and Ceres and " 2003 UB313 " (which is now " Eris " ) seem to be in the same category as to whether they're planets or not. Of course we astrologers know of the power of Pluto, but have we taken Ceres seriously in our charts--and we did not even know of " 2003 UB313/Eris " which has got to be more powerful than Pluto! But how to get all their positions in one place to put them in our charts easily? Well, to solve this problem I programmed a little research program which uses the highly accurate Swiss Ephemeris from Astrodienst AG, which has the orbital elements for just about everything out there. I needed to learn how to program to their orbital data files because I needed not only planets, but asteroids, fixed stars and new objects for my research project. I named my program " Astro2006 " (okay, it was new at the time) and it calculates the Geocentric Tropical position, A.U. distance, and Absolute motion of the usual planets, including Ceres, Chiron, and " 2003 UB313/Eris " . In addition, it gives the Geo Tropical position of some major fixed stars and the Galactic Center, for your inspection. If there is interest, when I get back I will update it to include Sidereal coordinates (your choice of ayanamsha) and much more! You may download it for free at <http://www.astrousa.com> . The download link is on the left-hand orange side of the main page below " Naughty Natal Report " , " Download Astro2006. " It is a smallish 1.3Mb self-extracting Zip file, which will create and extract the program and its Swiss Ephemeris files by default to C:\Astro2006 on your computer--or you can tell it to extract itself to any other directory on your computer you want. (I temporarily took off all PayPal buttons on that site because I'll not be here to fulfill astro report orders for a while.) Below is the contents of the Astro2006 " readme.txt " file. Best Regards, Scribe Readme.txt: Welcome to Astro2006 SE test program. Please print this " Read Me " file before using the program. This astrology program incorporates the latest Swiss Ephemeris data for asteroids, fixed stars, and planetoids, including the new discovery of 2003 UB313 which is slightly larger than Pluto. (Note: 2003 UB313 will probably be named 'Eris'.) The ephemeredes cover the present date range 1800 AD – 2399 AD. This is an abbreviated test program for the use of the Swiss Ephemeris 'dlls', star catalogs, and planet and asteroid files. Because its focus is slow outer planets and " fixed " stars there is no provision to enter your location longitude and latitude for calculation of astrological Houses. You can include the data you want from this program in your existing astrological chart printouts. The following describes the main program: If you plan to print out the data you may enter the Name or Event in the first field to label the printout, otherwise it is not required. The " Now " button will fill in the Date and GMT Time fields from the system time on your computer. Be sure and add the Time Zone of the person or event (in hours, positive for West, negative for East Longitude) so you will have accurate positions for the closer and faster-moving planets Moon, Mercury, Venus and Sun. The " Calculate " button will calculate and display the data according to the date and GMT time that is showing. The " Print " button will print the data displayed on one sheet of paper within a wide margin so that it will fit on three-hole-punched paper. The program displays the Tropical zodiacal position as DegSigMin, 'R' for retrograde in Longitude, distance in A.U. from Earth, and the Absolute Motion vis a vis Earth. This Absolute Motion is something new that I wanted to study here for research purposes. You will notice (by when it turns retrograde) that it measures a different motion from the Longitudinal or Right Ascension motion, which measures motion along those planes or axes. If it moves relative to Earth's orbit the motion is recorded here and I have named it 'Absolute Motion'. If it is retrograde relative to Earth's motion it is a negative number. At the bottom of the display is the Tropical Longitude position of stars Arcturus, Spica, Aldebaran, Antares and the Galactic Center. (Disregard the '1.000' number after the positions.) The research purpose of this program was to be able to calculate and track the position of the three planetoids in Geocentric Tropical astrology charts: Ceres, Pluto, and 2003 UB313/Eris. Since Pluto is so far away, small and slow-moving--and hence powerful--in our charts, I wanted to be able to study it along with Ceres and 2003 UB313/Eris--which is even more distant and slow- moving--to see what effects they may be having astrologically that I heretofore wasn't aware of. These are the files needed to run this program (so keep them all in the same directory): Astro2006.exe swedll32.dll fixstars.cat sepl_18.se1 seas_18.se1 s999001.sel readme.txt For you programmers out there, I programmed the Astro2006.exe in Delphi 7. It uses the Swiss Ephemeris C++ .dll library file which in turn reads the fixed star catalog and planet, asteroid, and new astronomical discovery orbital element files. Please send any comments, complaints, or kudos to info. Dec 1, 2006
