I just learned, on the conjunction forum, about Solar Returns/sidereal

methodology being discussed on your forum. I had always wondered why solar

returns seem to be a bit " dysfunctional " and thus, have not engaged in this

phase of astrology over the past many years of study and practice. My

passion is esoteric astrology via Alan Leo and Alice Bailey. Perhaps now I

will finally learn the answer as to the " dysfunction. "

Will go to the files section to learn about the Solar Return Progression

Worksheet for calculating Solar Quotidians and Progressed Sidereal Solar

Returns.

Best to you all,

Joleen (Arizona U.S.A.)

Hello Joleen,

Welcome to the sidereal forum. Yes, solar return charts are one of the best

ways the sidereal zodiac is used. If you have a birth time and an

especially important year in your life, we might take a look at the SR for

that year. Or people in the news with known birth times are always dying.

We could look at the chart for the year of death as one example of reading

solar returns. Actually there are some good examples of these charts on

past Newsmaker forums on the AstroDatabank site.

As a matter of fact, the current newsmaker, Jerry Falwell would be a good

example. I'll try to find time to look at his solar return, and post

something on this forum. In the meantime you can get a copy of his chart:

Blessings,

Therese

Greetings Therese and Joleen,

IMO the tropical zodiac works better for some people, and for others, the

sidereal works better. Tropical astrology has never really been accurate

for me in many ways, but I love the subject. I'm switching my astrology

computer program for sidereal, hoping it will give better results. I will be

using the Fagan-Bradley ayanamsha. It is really odd to me that every

accomplished Hindu astrologer/guru defines their own ayanamsha. I think it's

ridiculous, and causes speculation/suspicion for western astrologers.

Hi Roy,

I hope you will enjoy the discussion here (which sometimes quiets down to

nothing!), and that you'll be able to contribute from your own experience.

It's no longer true that every accomplished Hindu astrologer and Guru

defines their own ayanamsas. That was somewhat true in the first half of

the last century when tables were rare and difficult for many to come by,

but with the Government Lahiri Study Committee, now almost everyone uses

the Lahiri ayanamsa. The Raman ayanamsa still has some followers, mostly

due to the popularity of Raman's ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE and the fact that

B.V.Raman's daughter steadfastly refuses to study other ayanamsas.

The Tropical astrologers who now use Jyotish/Vedic almost universally use

the Lahiri ayanamsa. Fagan-Bradley simply doesn't work for the varga charts

or for Dasa dates. I use the Krishnamurti ayanamsa, 6 minutes different

from Lahiri because the Dasa dates seem to be more accurate. But I'm always

open to research findings.

There are a few astrologers on this forum of the Fagan-Bradley school, and

they will still swear by that ayanamsa. So...if you continue to experiment

with the sidereal, you'll eventually come to your own conclusion.

If you haven't seen the web site below, it would be good to check it out,

especially material on the zodiac signs (Parts 1, 2 and 3 and individual

signs in the chart, Aries, Taurus, Gemini).
