Ketu Dasa - ouch!

Hi - I'm new to the board and in reading your posts you guys seem to

easily and happily share info and insights - ahhh it's nice to see!

I know nothing of Vedic Astrology and have studied Western for a

while but recently encountered such a " low " that I posted a question

about my chart on a board about some recent changes that I had made

using a Western Astrologer to help make those choices. Those

choices have been very unwise and I put myself in huge financial

trouble (I was trying to do the opposite) and felt like I was kicked

in the soul for many many months (it's actually been 7 years like

this but much worse lately).

Someone said that I was having Ketu Dasa (7 year cycle) and my South

Node opposes Saturn Mars OUCH! To be honest, this is an example of

how Astrology can be life saving. Everthing that I have tried for

all of these 7 years has been absurd and I was getting pretty fed up

with me. It was a relief to find out that I was in a cycle that

does not even exist in Western Astrology.

Any insight for anyone who has been through this Ketu Dasa? I guess

I move into my Venus Cycle next and even the sound of it sounds

nice - even if it's not.

I'd love feedback as no one that I know, knows anything about this

aspect or Vedic Astrology.

Thanks and I enjoy reading your posts and learning about Vedic (I've

already looked int a class nearby where I live!)

Hi Kate,

Welcome to the sidereal forum. This forum didn't begin as a Vedic forum,

but was started by a western sidereal astrologer. But...times change...and

a lot of Vedic (Jyotish) has made its way onto the list. If you post your

birth data, we might be able to talk about your life. It would be nice to

have the date when you posted a question about your chart that a western

astrologer read and gave you unhelpful advice. What was the date when you

put yourself into deep financial trouble, and when did it get worse? And

exactly (as far as you can remember...) did the really bad times begin? For

events I always check dasas, transits and the all-important solar return

chart.

Some western astrologers who study Jyotish are comfortable with the square

charts. I never liked them, and always use the circular chart for Vedic

readings. I also avoid the Sanskrit terms to make learning easier for

western students.

Blessings,

Therese

Hi Theresa,

Thank you for replying. My birth details are Feb 20, 1968 16:55pm

(4:55pm) Albuquerque, NM. I now live in Newport, RI and just found

out that I live on my Pluto line (conj.Uranus on the Ascendant

here). I've been trying to not live here for a while and have lived

many other places but get " stuck " here.

I left my job and was " given an opportunity " in November. A friend

encouraged me to move to NYC and do real estate with her - she was

going to help me get started. I moved there in January (8th)- I got

my license. She did not help and turned out to be a drunken fool but

one who makes money. I spent the winter freezing, being poor, trying

to find work, trying to make the real estate work. I was back and

forth to Rhode Island as I have a house here that I could return to.

I've been trying to keep my home as the last few years I have lost a

great deal of money etc... to another friend. Sued him, won, he

won't ever pay. So I tried to branch out on my own and get into

sales to increase my income. I will have to do this at some point

in my life.

I tried driving to Boston for work - another flop and a long and

expensive commute. (Then ofcourse my car broke down and cost me more

money that I don't have) I finally got a job on the island where I

live and while it won't take me out of debt any time soon it will be

better than not having a job. I start the job tomorrow.

Quite honestly, in 2000 I moved back to the States and it's been a

really rocky road since. I was living abroad in Istanbul and loved

that but needed to do some other things. I was back and forth

between California and Rhode Island for a while (I LOVE California

but am too poor to live there). I have been working on my old but

beautiful home - it never ends but I hope to keep it as it has

become a work of art. I have tenants/housemates whom I have lived

with here and love very much - but honestly, I don't always want to

live this way and be so damn poor.

I had a really rough time a few weeks ago (like exactly) - even

maybe suicidal thoughts as I could not seem to buy a job, it rained

for like 2 weeks straight, and I was just sick of trying so hard

only to lose again. I posted a question about having made the move

to NYC. I was frighteningly desperate. A woman answered from

Australia (on April 17th)and told me about this Ketu Dasa - I feel

liberated about this info because it seemed that almost nothing I

do - would work and I was just tired of it!

Honestly, I am a traveler and an entrepreneur type who has not " won "

yet or had the right idea. I've been all over the world and love

this more than anything at all. I feel like I've been trapped in my

life for the last few years unable to get away (I did get a way a

little and went to Guatemala in December right before I moved to New

York - which was a disaster (NY was -Guat. was nice).

So that is it for the most part. I feel like I've been tripping

over my own poverty and constant roadblocks for so long now that it

makes it hard to be useful in the world. I have given to others

during this time (I am a Pisces after all). So that is what has

been going on.

Thanks

I originally asked the question about why nothing was working on April

15th. I got some answers - but I got THE answer about Ketu Dasa on

April 17th. As I mentioned - this was liberating information.

Hi Kate,

It's too late to write much this evening, so just a few comments until

tomorrow:

1) Your Ketu dasa was finished in early February when you started Venus

dasa. The Venus sub-period goes on to the middle of 2010. (More on that

later.)

2) What is really bothering you now is that the current opposition of

Saturn-Neptune (a nasty one that opposition is) is right on your Ascendant

(Saturn) Descendant-Mercury (Neptune). Saturn can be depressing, and

Neptune causes confusion and sometimes tears. It's a very emotional

opposition. Saturn will be moving out of sidereal Cancer in July, and you

should certainly feel some relief by then.

3) You didn't say if you have special training or special education for any

kind of work you might do. Moving around and traveling doesn't make for a

firm financial foundation unless the person is a high powered entrepreneur

or investor like Donald Trump.

4) You have a house so you aren't poor, only strapped for cash. There's a

difference.

5) Do you have a family? Mother, father, brothers, sisters?

In the last week or so this forum has seen three rather desperate people

asking for advice or help. These are difficult times we live in.

More tomorrow.

Blessings,

Therese

Hi again,

Wow - I've asked a few astrologers (online) about this Ketu Dasa -

each one gave a different answer as to when it ends - one said June,

one said March, one said May, and you say it ended - it sure doesn't

feel like it ended:(

I also have heard that the Venus Dasa goes for 20 years???

I have a Mother and two successful brothers. I am the " odd " one who

does not do well with career stuff. I am not particularly skilled in

any departments that make money or are in high demand. My father

died and left me a little money (he was a drunken Harvard

Psychiatrist who tortured us all of our lives). My brothers are

successful and I make them sort of sick.

I make myself sick actually. How anyone could have such a dark

cloud for so long -

I am poor. I have done without everything all of my life. Have

nevre had anything new (cars etc...) I buy beautiful things 2nd

hand. But things have gotten so bad that I live in my basement! and

the basement isn't really even okay - I've made due during these

hard times. But if it continues - then who knows.

I owe a ton of money now, more than I can ever pay (unless the Gods

and Goddesses have a place for me in the world where I too can be

prosperous - even just a little). I work incessantly on my old

home and yard and until my hands are blood curdling messes.

All of my travels were backpacking types of things at low cost. I

taught English abroad. I am not formally educated but people get

that I am smart so sometimes that brings opportunity. But I am at

the end of the line for sure.

Thanks - gotta go start my new job!

Kate, I hope your new job works out. The beginning and ending dates of

dasas depend on the ayanamsa, the difference between the tropical and

sidereal zodiacs. I use the Krishnamurti ayanamsa which puts the boundary

date between Ketu and Venus on February 6, 2007. Lahiri probably puts that

date in March. The Lahiri ayanamsa is the most popular one used by Vedic

astrologers. Any June date is based on an ayanamsa that few astrologers use.

Venus isn't free sailing in your horoscope because it's in the 6th house.

Yes, the Venus period lasts for 20 years so the planetary sub-periods are

more important in the long perspective. But for the present you are under

the influence of transiting Saturn-Neptune.

If your father was a troubled psychiatrist, you are probably turned off to

counseling and psychology, but from your posts it sounds like some

professional counseling, both personal and financial, might help to get

your life back on track. It's unrealistic to expect financial freedom

without specific training in a specialized field.

I know. I have two daughters in your situation, and one of them job hops

and loves to travel, always hoping for a better income and always being

'poor.' It won't happen unless she buckles down and completes her training

as a medical assistant. Her birth date in 1967, a year of that Uranus/Pluto

conjunction. (On the other hand, maybe her life path is to live on the

edge. Only she has the answer to her own life.)

The mid and late 60s produced many who are de-franchised today. There seems

to be no place for these men and women, partly because they are very

independent minded and don't conform easily to society's norms and

expectations. It's up to each one of them to figure out what the karmic

lessons of this life are and then to find a way to make life work.

On-line astrologers aren't going to be much help to you, because what's

necessary is for you to sit down and have personal sessions with financial

and counseling professionals. Those trained in psychology (without the

Ph.D. required for psychiatray) are generally more helpful and

down-to-earth with clients. If your income is very low, you fall under the

free or minimal cost help from organizations and professionals.

You have the Moon with Neptune in (sidereal) freedom loving Scorpio

(tropical Sag). Your navamsa Moon (the navamsa chart has a lot to do with

psychology) is right on top of natal Pluto, and Pluto is the ultimate in

non-conformity and 'not fitting easily into society.'

It's going to be difficult for you to view life in a realistic way, and the

current transit of Saturn is probably going to make you feel that the world

has it in for you. I don't believe you're going to easily work your way

into the light of day without professional assistance and a long-range

employment plan. Astrology forums are no substitute for good personal

professional counseling. So I'd say, " Go for it. " Start exploring help

avenues where you live. There's lots of people out there who care.

Blessings,
