A Gemini / Mercury study

I looked at AstroDatabank people with sidereal Gemini rising, Mercury alone

on the ascendant. Here's what I found. My own conclusions are at the end of

the post.

1. Rodney Harvey, 31st July 1967 at 4.20 AM +5.00 Philadelphia, PA

- “American actor, a sad and sordid story of a young man who was unable to

handle the lethal combination of fame, fortune and drugs. Barely 5' 6 " and

touchingly handsome, he was for a while a golden boy, hanging out with the

Hollywood young crowd to talk films and party like there is no tomorrow. He

was picked up literally from the streets at 16 by a filmmaker who saw him

transacting a deal to buy a knife, and put into a small role for $100 a day

plus expenses. (…)

His education was lacking and his tastes simple; he liked junk food, vodka,

and before long, designer drugs. Running with a gang that included Drew

Barrymore, David Arquette and Balthazar Getty, he began to see dropouts from

the set of young actors; River Phoenix OD'd, flopping on the street like a

fish in front of the Viper Club, Nick Curtis, Tony's son, died of a heroin

OD, Ron Marquette died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Those who stood

on the sidelines found it crushing, how easy it was, how easy the money, the

fame, the fix. (…)

Harvey died of cocaine and heroin overdose on 4/11/1998, Los Angeles.”

2. Mick Hucknall, 8th June 1960 at 6.30 AM +0.00 Manchester, England

- “British musician, lead singer and songwriter, with the soul-pop group

" Simply Red. " Hucknall was a pop star for the people and has been described

as " the most proficient white funk-soul vocalist in the world. " His career

spans two decades. (…)

Familiar with fame and conscious of its frailty, he changed with the times,

and according to some, mellowed. Not one to display false modesty, the

formerly dreadlocked Hucknall feels he belongs in the category of legendary

British solo singers, such as George Michael and Tom Jones. Now a

multimillionaire, the man described as an " authentic working-class hero, "

owns homes around the world, says he’s a " man of conscience " and toys with

the idea of entering politics…”

3. Patrick Husson, 26th July 1960 at 3.10 AM –1.00 Colmar, France

- “French singer whose angelic voice was first discovered when he was

singing as a soloist in several church choirs. He studied at the Colmar

conservatory and went to the Schola Cantorum Basilienis in Basel,

Switzerland in order to improve his vocal technique.”

4. Matt LeBlanc, 25th July 1967 at 4.18 AM +5.00 Newton, MA

- “American actor in one of the hottest TV series of the '90s, " Friends. "

The show premiered in September 1994 to mixed reviews, showing six young

adults in the 20's exploring life, love, jobs, fun and angst, mostly set in

a coffee-house where they hung out when not at their next-door apartments…”

5. Sir Andrew MacTaggart, 13th July 1888 at 3.00 AM +0.00 Kirkmichael,

Scotland

- “Scottish civil engineer and company director since 1928. MacTaggart was

active in the design and construction of hydro-electric developments in

Scotland, India, Italy and East Africa…”

6. Peter Schickele, 17th July 1935 at 3.00 AM +6.00 Ames, IA

- “American composer, musician and satirist. In a long and active career

he has written and arranged for classical, jazz, rock, and folk ensembles,

providing music for concerts, films, television, radio, and the stage. He

became wildly successful as his alter-ego, Professor Schickele, who

convulsed audiences for over three decades with mock productions of 28th

century baroque music, mostly by " P.D.Q. Bach. "

A Professor of Music at the University of Southern North Dakota, Schickele

introduced his inventive composer in 1965, reputedly " the last and least of

the many children of Johann Sebastian Bach. " The works have included, over

the years, an opera, " The Abduction of Figaro, " and early attempts as

stylistic fusions such as the bluegrass cantata " Blaues Grass, Grune

Himmel. " It also requires the development of instruments such as the

left-handed sewer flute, the slide music stand, the windbreaker and more.

Over the years, the works of P.D.Q. Bach have been performed by many of the

world’s greatest orchestras, often with hilarious results if not uproarious

eruptions of joy from the audience. Schickele is internationally recognized

as one of the most versatile and imaginative creative artists in the musical

world. Over a hundred works are available for symphony orchestras, choral

groups, chamber ensembles, voice, movies, and television, giving him a

respectable voice in the annals of American music. (…) Called " the greatest

comedy-in-music act before the public today, " Schickele has reaped Grammy's

and other awards for his satire and musicology…”

-----

Music and acting seem to be the main points. This Schickele guy is a superb

example of a Mercurial personality and life: music, creativity, humor,

inventiveness, hilariousness, laughter, comedy...

We have here a couple of fine singers (Mick Hucknall and Patrick Husson), a

couple of actors (Rodney Harvey and Matt LeBlanc), an inventor and engineer

(Sir Andrew MacTaggart) and finally a compilation of those all, Peter

Schickele. The main themes would seem to be creativity, making tricks, being

handy and skilled in something - things that Mercury is traditionally said

to represent. One observation is that, in hindu astrology singing (and

performing arts in general) are connected to the 3rd house, which goes to

Gemini on the natural zodiac.
