Guest guest
Hello - I've approached astrology from time to time but it has always been to a tropicalist and the answers I received soon put me off. It turns out that what I was seeking was Sidereal Astrology. I just didn't know it. Recently I discovered its existence, thanks to the Internet. I'm really excited about it. I know that Tropicalists divide the circle of signs into twelve equal portions of 30 degrees each. The constellations are not of equal width. Do Siderealists make the same equal division or do they deal with the width differences? I'm trying to select some software that would be helpful. Kepler claims to be Sidereal-compatible. Is it the best? Are there other recommendations? I've just ordered Fagan's " Primer of Sidereal Astrology " but would very much appreciate other book recommendations. Something that isn't out of print would be good. Thank you so much for your assistance. Thanks also for having a group. Liath Macha

Hello Liath, Welcome to the sidereal forum! At one time this forum had discussions only on the western Fagan-Bradley school, but now we have members who pratice Jyotish (Vedic astrology). Both use the sidereal zodiac, however. You'll find divergent opinions here, but don't let that put you off. We're all right some of the time, and we're all wrong some of the time. Each person has to finally make up his/her own mind. For a grounding in how I see the sidereal zodiac, please check out this web site: http://users.snowcrest.net/sunrise/LostZodiac.htm You'll find members of this forum who have different approaches to the sidereal zodiac. However, we all agree on sign rulerhsips: Mars is lord of Aries and Scorpio, Venus is lord of Taurus and Libra...and so forth. We all agree on the exaltations: Sun is exalted in Aries, the Moon is exalted in Taurus, and so on. The sidereal signs are all 30 degrees in length. They align only roughly with the constellations of the same name. Although some siderealists call the sidereal signs 'constellations,' this term is confusing since (as you noted), the constellations are of different lengths. Regarding software, I can only speak from experinece. Solar Fire is an excellent program. I also have the Vedic Parashara's Light, but that program won't handle all the western sidereal techniques. I hope others on this list will have recommendations for you. Rupert Gleadow's YOUR CHARACTER IN THE ZODIAC (also with a slightly different title) is available used on Amazon.com It's difficult to find western sidereal books since most of them are out of print. There is a sidereal.zip file on this site with some of the older writings by Fagan and others. (Take articles in this file, and all writing, with a grain of salt. We still have much to learn.) Please feel free to ask additional questions or to voice your opinion either pro or con in the discussions.
