My point in bringing these ancient writers into the debate was to show that the sign meanings haven't changed in centuries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But many of them have changed, Chris, and that is the entire premise of Gleadow's book. You gave two partial quotes from Valens on Taurus and Gemini, but the actual quotes are much more extensive. Early writers linked many meanings of signs to actual co-rising stars along with other sources. No one could know this unless they had the Project Hindsight translations and other expensive academic books. The entire study of sign meanings is very complex and circular. It can't be settled by a simple statment one way or the other: " Sign meanings (have or have not) changed over the centuries. " I'll give some examples in another post. We can pretty much toss out all character traits linked to signs because modern astrologers know these belong to the planets.
