Guest guest
Hi All, There's been a discussion on the NCGR list about rectification and the importance of math. I'm passing on some of Alphee Lavoie's stories that he just posted. I'm probably not supposed to do this, but his stories are amusing and pinpoint some of the problems astrology faces today. I guess if we want to live without standards, it's our choice. Remember I'm not suggesting that we all think alike. I'm suggesting that all practicing astrologers need to know the basics, and these do need to be standardized in some way. Therese ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From Alphee Lavoie via the NCGR Forum, March 12, 2006: ....A few years ago on the Festival e-mail group there was one man there who was considered to be the guru of the group. He knew everything according to the group. One day a question came up: " I want to rectify my brother's chart who is a priest. I need help. This guru says " well, just put Saturn into the eighth house. A priest does not have sex. " One woman on the group was so impressed with this wisdom and thanked this man profusely for showing her how easy it was to rectify a chart while she had had the hardest time to do so herself. A few days later another woman ask him for help to rectify a friends chart. She said the man was around 6'4 tall. This know-it-all said just put the South node on the ascendant because all tall people have the south node on the ascendant. Again the group was extending their thanks to him for making strological chart rectification so incredibly easy and fast. They were aying we need more people like you in astrology. My feeling is that we have too many of those people in astrology. Another example was when I was at a conference demonstrating my software. An older man walks in with a beautiful young lady on his me. He says to me, " draw a chart for August 26, 1954 at 4:15 p.m. " I was curious because my oldest was born that day. The girl says. " No, I was born at 11:09 am. That is what is on my birth certificate. " I ask the man. " Where did you get 4:15? " He told me that he himself had just rectified her chart while they were eating lunch. On the day of her divorce Uranus was involved. I proceeded to calculate his chart for 11:0 9 a.m.. That chart had 2° Scorpio on the ascendant. I asked her if she gotten her divorce around February 2, 1984. She said, " Yes it was on the third of February of 1984. " I assured her that her chart was correct because Pluto made an exact station on her ascendant on that day. The man jumped out of his chair screaming that I didn't know any astrology because only Uranus can cause divorce. He claimed that he has been a professional astrologer for 25 years and he had rectified hundreds of charts. Later on I found out from his friends that this man was working at Stop & Shop. HELLO! Professional astrologer? Does that sound familiar! I've been around astrology and astrologers for over 45 years. I've attended nearly all the national conferences and many international conference. I have lectured around the world. I have thousands of stories like this. I will write a book on it some day. Does this kind of rationality help astrology? Every day when I hear this kind of baloney I thank God that I spent the first seven years after getting my university degrees as an engineer. When you work as an engineer if you make one mistake, you get a warning slip. Get three warning slips and YOU ARE OUT OF A JOB. It's that simple. You learn really quickly that you can't use the astrologers famous saying " If It Works for you then use It " . YOU WOULD BE OUT OF A JOB... Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for the Alphee story. Hope we can have more. I always saw him and John Mazurek as brothers. This Saturn in the 8th (priests), Ketu rising (tall people) sort of thing...Rudhyar and Steiner could get away with it, but only because they were poet intuitives. It proves opaque to lesser lights. It has never had a name so I christened it " Astrologers Prodigal. " It includes all the dumb ass things one utilizes through provincial observation, mistaken belief, wrong time zone, or miscalculation that somehow still shepherd the right answer (Our mistress is very pliable in her accommodating.) Does Alphee ever post anything that isn't a shoe horn to his product line? Here AIR rectification. So right away I want Saturn in his 10th. And that's just where it is... Capricorn retrograde with telling minor aspects. Dark*Star ps...I prefer Rahu for long; Ketu for short and especially cripples. ________________________________ therese92003 wrote: > Hi All, > > There's been a discussion on the NCGR list about rectification and > the importance of math. I was very excited about his research software (at that time I believe it was priced somewhere above $300.00 (now I think it is going for $250.00)--still cheap in my opinion for what one gets. I approached him with two other old Fagan siderealists in tow ready to buy the product--until I found out it didn't include a single sidereal ayanamsa. Naturally I addressed this issue with him, but was unable to get any kind of straightforward answer. I would have been happy to hear any explanation, but instead was referred to his software programmer, who was also in attendance at the conference. The programmer was very nice and explained that he could probably do it, but it was apparent that this idea was new to him. Naturally he would need the approval of Alphie but was more than willing to do this upon getting such approval. I am not a programmer so I thought perhaps this type of change might be expensive. The programmer assured me it would probably not be a big issue. As I recall, I was even willing to shell out a bit more cash, it they would burn me a separate 'sidereal' copy. I would have been happy to have just two ayanamsas. I proceeded back to Alphie and tried to make the case that if there weren't enough Fagan siderealists to warrant such a product change, then there might be a real interest in the Vedic community. I know many of the Vedic astrologers and I could personally discuss the merits of the software with them. He really could not directly address the issue. I would have been satisfied with *any* answer, but instead had to be content with hanging around his product booth for a couple of days, hoping that someone would 'step up to the plate'. I must say it was a weird experience. I just visited his website and checked out the same product--it apparently still doesn't include any sidereal format--unless I'm missing something. Perhaps someone on the list can explain what this is about..... Steve > > > >
