Guest guest
February 2006 Forecast General Jupiter and Neptune move in unison for several weeks now as the great benefic slows down ahead of its station. Unfortunately, they form a square aspect for much of the month so beware of distortions in hopes or higher ideals. For example, this would not be a good time to take an oath that required an unequivocal adoption of clear legal principles. Liquids of all kinds may also be subject to exaggeration or unnatural growth or distribution. We can only hope this doesn't apply to gasoline prices. Saturn continues to be trined by Rahu (North Node) creating upset and difficulties for persons or groups based on traditional ideas or social structures. Muslim and Christian fundamentalists please take note. Problems with mining will continue to be in the news since Saturn rules things underground. One interesting feature of the January 29th New Moon in Capricorn is that it opposed Saturn within two degrees, and closely conjoined Mercury. This points to a disruption of information, or perhaps a pernicious application of malefic energy to distort information. Not that there isn't already enough of that going on these days, but it may play a larger role in all of our lives this month. I note that the Winter Olympics take place this month in Italy, so perhaps this configuration might indicate drug scandals or intrigue. The New Moon of February 27th in Aquarius, by contrast, removes the Saturn influence and replaces it with Uranus -- the planet of shock and change. Given that Mars is squaring this New Moon while receiving Ketu's destabilizing aspect, there may be a strong desire for changing the status quo in many facets of life through March. Expect some civil disturbances and changes in government once this New Moon kicks in. Iran (April 1 1979 00.00 Teheran) The recent troubles with the international community over Iran's nuclear program can be seen fairly clearly through the transit of Saturn over the exact equal 9th house cusp. Saturn afflicting the 9th house usually means troubles with foreigners, so this fits nicely. Making that transit even more troublesome is the fact that Iran is currently running Saturn subperiod. Saturn conjoins Rahu in the natal chart to make the Saturn transit even more problematic. To add to the problems, Rahu is also aspecting the Ascendant within one degree at the moment. Transit Mars is moving into dangerous territory now as it approaches a simultaneous aspect of the Ascendant and Saturn. This transit is exact around March 5. I would think an attack on Iran by the Israelis (or perhaps the USA) would therefore most likely occur near that date, say between Mar 1 and March 12. Mag 4; 60%. Israel Watch for some new difficult plotlines to develop here, especially after Feb 13. This can be attributed to a variety of factors, not the least of which is the coming Saturn station on the natal Moon at 11 Cancer (Lahiri). Since this Moon sits in the unequal 10th house, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that the Israeli government may undergo further instabilities. The upcoming election may well produce a stalemate, or at very least a more fractured Knesset than already exists. Parenthetically, this also does not bode well for Ariel Sharon's recovery. The period of greatest difficulty is probably after March when the Moon dasha begins. I also believe that the hardships will involve the population as a whole. The last Moon subperiod, for example, occurred in 2000 when the 2nd intifada started. The forthcoming Moon period is therefore likely to produce troubles right away given the presence of malefic Saturn by transit near the natal Moon. Given the recent election of Hamas in Palestine, this is a forecast that doesn't need much astrological input. Mag 4; 75% Canada The new Conservative government under Stephen Harper has only a slim minority in this Parliament. It seems unlikely that his government can last more than two years, and I believe will be much briefer than that. The swearing in takes place on February 6 when Sun conjoins Neptune and Mercury is squared closely by Mars. These are signatures that are not conducive to stable government. I am expecting major problems to hamstring this government beginning primarily in July. The Fall and Winter look especially volatile and there is a good chance the Conservatives will be forced into another election. Mag 4; 50%. Another possibility is that the disruptive configuration applies not to the government, but to the country as a whole. Thus far, I haven't decided if the Fall affliction pertains to hostilities or hardship affecting Canada or the government. Hopefully I will come to some conclusion before that time. One of the two scenarios is very likely indeed. Mag 4; 80%. With the defeat of Martin's Liberal government, the Liberals will be searching for a new leader with a convention most likely in the Fall. So far there are no frontrunners although after a look at his untimed birth chart, I think Ken Dryden has a very good chance of gaining the leadership in early 2007. If the convention is held then, he would be likely win. Mag 3; 75% Thailand Opposition to the Thaksin government continues to mount with a massive protest scheduled for February 4th. This is likely to feature some violence given the presence of Mars on the ascendant and Rahu on natal Mercury in the 12th house of loss. These political rallies may be the prelude to larger social unrest that will occur in the next two months as Saturn stations near the natal Moon (Thailand's Moon is just minutes away from the Moon of Israel). Interestingly, the chart is running Jupiter-Moon dasha. The last Moon subperiod occurred in 1992 when the similarly unpopular military dictatorship of General Suchinda was violently opposed by the people. Suchinda was finally removed after an unprecedented intervention by the King. A violent end to the Thaksin government is therefore one possible expression of this pattern. The time around the Mars return of this chart (March 16) appears to be the most important time. Another repeating theme involves Neptune. Transit Neptune is applying to a square to the ascendant in the 10th house suggesting suffering to the government or leaders. P3 Neptune is contraparallel P3 MC in the next couple months. It is worth noting that at the time of the 2004 tsunami, P3 MC was also contraparallel natal Neptune. I’m not suggesting that another disaster involving water or liquids is imminent, but certainly the illness or suffering side of Neptune appears to be part of the emerging picture in Thailand’s near future. In addition the solar eclipse of March 29th, falls opposite natal 6th house Neptune within one degree. At this point, I can’t say what the most likely outcome will be. Here is a run-down of probabilities: violent change of government (30%), death or illness of leader/King (30%), flu outbreak (20%), other event (20%). I mention the King here because his tertiary progressed Pluto is nearing a station in July-August. Also, a P3 solar eclipse occurs right around that time as well, just two degrees from his natal Venus. This is likely to be an intense time for him and given his advanced years (he is 78), a life-threatening health problem is very likely in July and August. One persistent puzzle concerns the timing of these two themes since the first event seems to be too soon to be related to the King Bhumipol’s health and yet it would fulfill the March symbolism of Neptune progressions and the Saturn conjunct the Moon.
