A sidereal >ingress and a tropical ingress will have the same planetary >relationships to angles; only the degrees will be expressed >differently. Perhaps I am misunderstanding you? No that is not quite true. They will not have the same relationship to the angles, because the angles will depend on the time of the ingress. There will be considerable differences between the time of a Sidereal Ingress and that of the tropical of the same name. the tropical Capsolar starts in December, where as the Sidereal Capsolar begins in January. That will be a very large differences. The angles and the Moon will be different >My argument is, how can ANY ayanamsha work, if you are >assuming that each sidereal sign is 30 degrees long, no more >or no less? A 30-degree convention is not going to work for >constellations, no matter what ayanamsha is chosen! Constellations is the name that Siderealists use for the Sidereal Signs of 30 degrees each. Why the signs are just 30 degrees, I am not sure. But the differences in mundane condition of the Moon moving from one Constellation/Sign to next, has been noted and well documented. The ayamamsha determines the difference between the Tropical and Sidereal beginning of the Zodiacal circle and hence the demarcation of the signs/Constellations, against the background of the fixed stars. In the Sidereal system, it is as it were, the real address of that zero point. It is fixed and not movable. Bradley derived the correction to Fagan's determination of the VP by making careful note of how far planets fell off the angles in terms of sidereal time, in Lunar CardinalIngresses. Then correcting the time of the ingresses by that much. The resulting change in the lunar position made the position of Spica 29 Virgo 05'.(Fagan had determined from historical evidence that it was not 0 of Libra as in the Vedic system, but 29 Virgo.) Further tests using the progression of the Solar Ingresses refined this to 29 Virgo 05' 06 " as the Sidereal Longitude of the fixed star Spica (Alpha Virgo) Form this the Ayanamsha or differences between the Tropical and Sidereal zodiacs was determined for the epoch 1950.0 That is why I said the Ayanamsha is critical. It determines the true position of the zero degree in the sky, against the background of the fixed stars. For mundane work, The Sun or Moon must return to the very same point in the sky. In the tropical framework, name will be the same, but the point in the sky will be 1 degree westward every 72 years. Between the various Sidereal Ayanamsha, the point in the sky which each will define will be slightly different. See my above statement as to why this is of critical importances. Fagan's determination was based on historical and monumental document ion. Bradley proved and corrected this by means of rectification technique pure and simple. I hope that this has helped clarify the differences between the zodiacal systems, and the part the determination of the Ayanamsha plays in that determination.
