Guest guest
Dear Members, Comet Machholz (named after the amateur astronomer who discovered it in the early morning hours of August 27, 2004 in California), is visible in Taurus right now and will be nearly on top of the Pleiades around Jan 7/8. Moving on, it will near Algol around Jan 16/17. You can find many on-line ephemerides to track this--I have Starry Night software and can view it very nicely that way. What does it all mean Mr. Natural? Got me, just an FYI for all you empiricists out there..... here's one opinion of the negative kind: http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index633.htm Best, Steve
Guest guest
Thanks for the heads up. Seeing as how it will be near Algol around the same time as Mars crosses the ecliptic, it may be hard to say what " caused " what. I've never studied the astrological effects of comets. Are there any? Maybe Kohoutek rules disappointment. keep on truckin', Chris --- Steven Stuckey <shastrakara wrote: > > > Dear Members, > > Comet Machholz (named after the amateur astronomer who discovered it in > the early morning hours of August 27, 2004 in California), is visible > in Taurus right now and will be nearly on top of the Pleiades around Jan > 7/8. Varahamihira's 'Brihat Samhita " (505 AD) contains many references to Ketu's or Comets One in particular caught my eye: " There is another comet named Rasmiketu, which appears near the constellation Krittika with an ash-colored crest. It produces effects similar to those of Sveta. " " The comet called Sveta is rough, black and of the form of matted locks. After traversing a third of the sky, it turns back in the sinistral way. It destroys two thirds of the population " . Our modern eyes, prone to reading and watching television, have long ago lost their ability to gaze skyward. How to determine an " ash-colored crest " from a " matted locks " comet? My new 'teachers' for the year will be the animals on the various islands that took to the hills when the first quake was felt off Sumatra.
