Guest guest
Hello everyone, As far as I understand the precessional movement, I tend to believe that when the ptolomoan (and other " greek " - but are they really " greek " ?) essential dignities were created, both tropical and sidereal zodiac coincide. That is between 100 BC to 100 AD, dates we usually refer to set our ayanamsha, the shift between the zodiacs was less than five degrees. That leads me to wonder if there is a possibility to use these essential dignities (rulership, exaltation, triplicity, term and face) in sidereal astrology? Although it works in classical tropical astrology, I don't know if their use in sidereal astrology may cause more mistakes in our delineations? Also, it would be interesting to know what were the dignities the Babylonians used. Anyone knows? -- With my best regards, François -- Version: 7.0.298 / Virus Database: 265.6.7 - Release 04-12-

Francois, there's an on-going discussion of different tenets of Hellenistic astrology here: youngastro/ Right now the youngastro forum has the benefit of postings by Bill Johnston, who's working with Robert Schmidt, the current top expert in Hellenistic astrology. You can ask Bill any questions, and he'll give a helpful and accurate answer. Essential dignities belong to Hellenistic and medieval astrology, and Bill would know which dignities belong to which time period. >That leads me to wonder if there is a possibility to use these essential >dignities (rulership, exaltation, triplicity, term and face) in sidereal >astrology? This is a very good question, and we don't know which zodiac they really work in. The astrologers who are working with essential dignities are using the Tropical zodiac, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's the correct zodiac for the dignities. They've never been tested, and there are only anecdotal tales of how today's astrologers are using the dignities. >Also, it would be interesting to know what were the dignities the >Babylonians used. Anyone knows? Babylonian astrology had the 'secret places' of the planets, the traditional exaltations, but these were by constellation only. There were no specific exaltation degrees. The Babylonians also had the triplicities, but they didn't use triplicity lords as they were used in Hellenistic astrology. The Babylonian triplicites were associated with the four winds, but otherwise we don't know how they were used. Therese
