Dear Cynthia,

May your engagement end in a happy wedding!

These two totally opposite events show how difficult it can be to interpret

transits. How to choose from the many possible manifestations of the

transit of planet to a planet? Are you in the Tropical zodiac? Or did I

mis-calcualate? I have a Capricorn ascendant for you.

Dear Therese

You are correct, the ASC / lagna is Cap sidereally....I sent a copy of this

message to a tropical friend. I thought I had corrected the ASC.

Thank you for the kind words. I am ever surprised by the outer planets. I

usually ask my client what's going on and look at past transits to get a

frame for how the transit might manifest. I will tell you, in this instance

I was looking at the Inconjucnt to the Sun and opposition to Mars. I

totally missed the transit to Venus.

I expect a happy wedding and marriage....we two angular saturns have lived

together for 7 years (ain't Saturn grand). We are old enough to know that

not just anyone can live with a Saturn Sun opp.

I'm in the middle of planting 2000 tulips so tulip time when Venus and Mars

are exalted is looking pretty good from here.

Dear Therese:

In his book SOLAR AND LUNAR RETURNS Donald Bradley makes a point about

the trickiness of interpreting transits. On page 16, under the heading

" An Astrological Pitfall " , he writes, " There are ten transiting planets

and ten radical planets. There are five 'Ptolemaic' or major aspects

which transiting bodies can make with radix planets: the conjunction,

sextile, square, trine, and opposition. This, then, technically allows

eight major aspects to occur between ten transitive and ten natal

planets, which further means that, excluding even the Ascendant and

Midheaven points, there are eighty vital points in the horoscope of

birth which can be 'touched off' by any of ten transiting planets!

Little wonder is it, therefore, that a superficially trained

astrological practitioner can find 'indices' of anything that ever

happens to an individual by comparing transits with the birthchart! It

may astonish the newer student to learn that the odds are even that at

any given moment a transiting planet is within 0*27' of a conjunction,

square or opposition, of a natal planet - a fact which gives the lie to

many current astrological (mal)practices. "
