I sent a link earlier to the paper describing the " Olduvai theory " that

Mary had used a phrase from ( " Olduvai cliff " ). The paper gives a model of

energy production and use relative to population. There was a point in it

at 2012 (which Martin found interesting because that's the end of the

Mayan long count) that is labelled the cliff: it's the point at which the

energy/population ratio starts dropping drastically, accompanied by

rolling and eventually permanent blackouts.

 

Recently, the author of the paper moved the start of the " cliff " phase

from 2012 to 2007.
