Guest guest Posted December 16, 2004 Report Share Posted December 16, 2004 *Palestinian power struggles* Following the recent death of Yasser Arafat, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has finally been able to wrest control of the security services of the Palestinian Authority (PA), which gives him considerable muscle and bargaining flexibility in the post-Arafat power struggle. Qurei's predecessor, Mahmoud Abbas, the first Palestinian premier, has taken over control of the diplomatic effort. JID's Middle East correspondent reports on an escalating power struggle.
